Tuning for E90 318i

Re: Tuning for E90 318i

seriously I doubt our butt dyno could tell is there any actual increase of bhp? i don't doubt driver will felt the change in how the car respond. but reading from a spec that doing this get this just prove you know how to read a brouchure, don't mean anything to me. that's me. I agreed with all just take it what IL4 as it is. done up the handling mods, coilover, rollbar, camber, tires, rim's width, offset would change the whole characteristic of the car. trust me this is the best 2.0L NA in its class to be driven day to day. on the engine, touch nothing except spark plug and air filter. all tuning done on our car are best for its performance against the day to day usage and last for a long time that's problem free other than tear and wear of parts.

if you're changing car 1-2 yr, ignore what i said above.

enuff said. let's enjoy our drive.

I know. How many know the hardware (engine parts) btw 318 & 320?

I did a quick search on RealOEM and it seems that the intake manifold is different between the 318i and the 320i. There are several parts in the intake manifold that are different with different part numbers. This confirms what I was told by one of the site sponsors who also does ECU tuning. I have not done a more thorough comparison on the other parts of the engine but I guess you can check it out yourself.

Re: Tuning for E90 318i

After reading all bros' opinion and experiences, i think i will maintain stock because i cannot tahan the stress when something kaputs. Work already no time, if car kaput i dunno how to find time to send for repair. hehe.

By the way, does your engine sound noisy? When stationary, my 320i engine sounds like a bus.

Re: Tuning for E90 318i

stock is da best !!! to each his own

yes, 320i engine is noisy. not bus la ... taxi perhap... hehe

i want to detune my 320 to 318. 318 low torque is better.
i lost to a 318 in red light stop/go. before i can move 318 is already 1/2 car length away. wahahahaha
so 318, do you still want to upgrade to 320 ecu ?
Bro,

u sure? maybe u did not whack the car hard enough is it? hheheheh Mine is a stock 318 and funny ting is that the more i whack and revive teh engine hard, the better it seems to react to me ehhehhehhe

It's definitely noisy. Was quite surprised the first time I heard it. :p

an NA engine you need to rev up the engine linearly to 3.5K RPM above to unleash the performance of the IL4 2.0L. with 6speed gearbox its just added more fun.

Re: Tuning for E90 318i

Our car's pick up is horrible. Always chet by small cars. I installed sprint booster but haven't tried to vroom against 1.5L Jap cars. Hehe.

Fyi, i drove up NS. This car is definitely responsive for fast speeds. It is hungry for speed.

From what I've read before (don't ask me where hor.. I'll need to google all over again) the Valvetronic was left out to minimize weight. New generation N45 got valvetronic, according to wikipedia.
N45 is 1.6L block. It was used for WTCC is because there is no valvetronic. In Eu, it is replaced by N43 1.6L block.

Yeah that's the point: I enjoy my 4-pot car as it is already (hey I upgraded from a Toyota Corolla - anything better than that feels like heaven liao), but also want to see how far I can tweak it. :D
I moved from Nissan Sunny 1.6L to E39 520. Nothing can beat the feel of IL6 even though 2.2L tend to be underpower to the massive body of E39.

I know the answer. The question is for 318 owner to think whether it is worth the effort to tune ECU.

-davidtch (sorry the quote thing isn't working right).

It's without a doubt much better - that's why BMW builds them instead of just 4-pots. :) I just didn't think, given driving conditions here, that the extra $30k+extra road tax+extra insurance was worthwile. :D

The 320i E92 is the same price as the 325i E90 - but this time around I decided to go flash over substance.. :D

The 335i is just out of my budget for now.

can't compare a 4pot with 6pot, somemore twin turbo. NA and FI car different league of performance. :chinese: i personally preferred a NA engine with high rev over FI type. no doubt the surge on FI car are always
