Oh no, today X series, tomorrow F series.

Re: two X series stolen in KL using high tech decoder!

Looks like it is time for extreme precautionary measures like what Mr Bean does... after parking the ride, remove the steering wheel plus foot pedals, bring along with thyself. Fix them back in place when get back to ride. Another good option is remove the entire Battery (car jacker got right decoder also useless, ride will not response), fix it back in place once back to ride before driving off.

Pardon my lame input above.

Install locking nut if you have expensive rims.......

If the encryption key is really exposed then this is a BMW level issue.

read this:

(extracted)
In 2012 BMW vehicles were stolen by programming a blank key fob to start the car through the on-board diagnostics (OBD) connection.[77][78][79] The primary causes of this vulnerability lie in the lack of appropriate authentication and authorization in the OBD specifications, which rely largely on security through obscurity.[80]

Chicken and egg issue ..... Authentication is easy to implement. But plugging that iniquity means the end of coding ...... And who is going to maintain the auth table ?

What does the insurance companies say about this ? Premium going up as a result ?

sometimes it could be an inside job, dealer's saleman might get the decoding information. Similar to the movie 2Fast2Furious
