Hello All Bros,

Happy New Year to you....

I have a problem with my E60 2008 and appreciate your help to advise me.

Last week I sent my car for servicing. The next morning, I am unable to start my car due to the following reasons:

A) when I insert the key, the brake pedal was"locked" and it seems so hard that there is no movement at all
B) unable to create a pressure and movement on the brake pedal, my car is unable to start when I pressed onto the "start engine" button.

Please advise and thank you.

Re: Unable to start my car 08 E60.

We gotta saman the bmw gods to help you diagnose based on the posted info here. From the sound of the words... am sure they can tell you exactly where is broken. Fluffing sart one.

Ok. I lied.
Please call your workshop or tow truck.

Try stepping harder on the brake pedal, and I really meant HARDER till you can depress the brake. Should work if it's what I think it is.

Common issue. There is a SIB out on this problem but only if your car is under warranty which I don't think it is since it's an e60.

Go to a site sponsor workshop like R2D or Boss once they are opened.

This does sounds like your battery is flat. Do a battery check.

if yes, ur starter is gone...

Re: Unable to start my car 08 E60.

Do what Sean mentioned - step really hard on the brake pedal and try.

Re: Unable to start my car 08 E60.

Think still trying to step on the brake like you told him....

Re: Unable to start my car 08 E60.

Wow.... I am happy that so many bros have offered the advice. Thank you so much.

I tried Sean's method. Depresss the brake pedal hard for a few times and press the "start engine" button, surprising it works. thank you Sean.

Once engine started, the brake pedal is back to normal (meaning not so hard).

I checked the invoice and realized that they replaced the brake pad and brake sensor during servicing. Not sure is it bcos of that.

fyi, I paid $2.3k to the workshop (not PML) for some parts of replacement as oil leakeage around the engine.

Haha ...

Gd to hear everything is okie...

Heng heng for the New Year!!!

Re: Unable to start my car 08 E60.

The problem is vacuum related ..... Pedal needs vacuum for the "soft" feel.

Bring it back to them to double check .... Brakes are important .....

Yup, like what RBB said, you have a vacuum leak. Most common issue is with the brake vacuum pump seal. It could be other issues as well.

What did the workshop change on your car? Looking at your problem, they could have created this problem while doing some other things.

My advice is never to use those outside workshops, even the own workshop of the second hand dealer, because they are not BMW-specialists and will screw up the job. Many horror stories here including myself.

Send it in to our site sponsor workshops like R2D or Boss if you get no joy from the guy you went to previously. Cheers.

Re: Unable to start my car 08 E60.

hello bros,

which is the preferred one? R2D or Boss?

Looks like I need to pay them a visit after CNY. I will treat it as a lesson for spending $2.3k going to those so called "BMW workshop".

Thanks for all your valuable advise and may you all Huat big big in 2014.

Do take note that I used to have this issue and I have to step hard on my brakes to press start.
only to discover my brake vacuum is faulty. I procrastinate and resulted in spoiling my brake booster as well.
Best is to check with workshop.
