Underpowered 1 series?

Re: Underpowered 1 series?

That amount to 16.129km/l.. Not too bad,.. ;)
i shall update again when I depleted my 1st tank, courtesy from pml.... ;)

Re: Underpowered 1 series?

Yeah, it does... significantly. though it will still be hard to mistake a Diesel for a Petrol engine when you are outside...

I think diesel needs to warm up 1st & the cluttering sound will reduce.

Re: Underpowered 1 series?

Just drive normally... seriously how often do you hit 150 or 160kmph? ha ha... let the autobox do its job, you will hardly (if at all) reach 3.5k rpm...

these days i think PML needs to generate more revenue from servicing.. that's why its 12,000 km... In the previous E46 model, the service interval was 25,000km... then somehow in 2007 they change it to 12,000km for the e90 onwards.

Do bear in mind though, the way the service interval is calculated is based on a usage regression approach. Meaning, it actually calculates how much fuel is being burnt in your car. This is a direct impact on how often the car needs to be serviced. For example, if you are always on the highway and burning little fuel, you will probably hit very close to the 12,000 km service interval. However, if you are always stuck in Traffic Jams, or sitting idle in the car with your engine on, you will see that the 12,000km marker will drop really fast.

if you are unsure about driving 12,000 km on the first tank of oil, just drop by to R2D (Rodney) and have him swap the oil for you. I have checked with him and he told me his team are all certified to service diesel engines as well.

Rodney can also do some simple (and anal) coding for you. For Example, when you turn on your aircon, the air circulation is usually on "A" (Automatic). He can code it for you such that it will always be on "M" (Manual).

Other things you might want to consider coding is the delay for your folding mirror. Default is always 3 sec. (ie you hold your lock door button for 3 sec) and the mirror will fold. you can code this to zero second. So that when you lock your doors, the mirror automatically folds.

Others have coded the OBD to show the speed digitally as well. But this, i'm not sure if Rodney can do.

My carly dongle and App is on the way. hopefully i will get it by this evening, if not next week. Once i have it, it can do all the above, plus to force a regeneration (but with your type of mileage, i don't think you will need). Happy for you to use it as well, provided once i figure out how it works. To buy the dongle, its about EUR 60 (for the dongle) and SGD 50 (for the App).

Cheers,

PS: I'm not related to Rodney. I used him on and off for my servicing / quick fix problems

oh ya.. one more thing to add is this is the first time I heard a SE tell me car run in is 2000km, lower than 160km/h and lower than 4000rpm....
(though the manual stated diesel car is 2000km, lower than 150km/k and lower than 3500rpm)

mostly on my previous jap petrol cars, SE will tell me run in is 1000km, keep below 100km/h & 4000rpm. though now the distance 2000km but lower than 150km/h, how to reach there when singapore's max is only 90km/h. also the next service I think is 12000km while pertol car they will ask to go flush the engine oil after 1000km.....

Re: Underpowered 1 series?

happened to me a couple of times as well... chances are you are sitting too close to the front.... move the chair back a wee bit.

Or buy new shoes... hahhaha

One more thing to add. The foot pedal seems a little obstructive as compared to while test drive. Cos while driving my car, from fuel to brake seems a little get caught and rub at my shoe sole part. I tried when wearing my work and casual shoe. I dont remember when go test deive has such issue... Maybe the test drive and show room cars has smaller brake pedal??

Probably car gets more sensitive so best to service earlier nowadays..;) and they can earn more money if out of warranty. If within warranty and free servicing, they will tell you comein with 2k ~ -2k from the 12km mark else will be chareagble. Or the car status showing fault even when not in the service range.

I remember my SE told me the air con will stay at M after selection but I do notice it always toggle back to A when car starts. Probably different from older series.

Mirror I still ok, he told me "hold another 2s", so I guess is 1s lock and 2s more to fold. I normally will fold mirror when park at home hdb carpark, open air somemore. But when in office, ok to leave it unfold, can save some battery energy.. ;)

Maybe just share with me R2D contact and if need, i will go look for him. The carly dongle looks good and fun, doubt i will use it in case i mess up my car and they told me they void the warranty.... ;)

I know where went wrong;) because i have 1 business shoes and 2 casual shoes. Casual shoe 2 is the one I wore to test drive as the bottom sole didnt protrude out. Today drive to work quite ok.

Move the seat to back? I already did, when i drive only a small kid can sit behind me and end up i have to set memory 2 for when fetching people.

I even lower my seat so I won't knock my head when entering or exit the car, felt like driving a sport car when sitting inside. But when coming out will need to stand outside and pull the body out as the door frame is even higher than my seat height... Lol.. Almost fell back in some time...

Re: Underpowered 1 series?

I doubt that the cars are more sensitive. In other regions (Europe, US and Australia) they are still on 12,000 miles, which is 20,000km and 25,000 km service interval. i honestly think it is just a revenue generating gimmick. they have to weight the cost benefit analysis between customers coming in too often, vs customers not coming in at all, bearing in mind that the cars now comes with 3 year free servicing (for labour).

The switch on default for the Aircon is "A". This is the same for the other models, if you don't code it.

the default for the folding mirror is 2 or 3 sec because in Europe (for example), during winter, the mirror might freeze over. so drivers has a choice whether to fold it or not. If it is frozen and you fold it, it might break. in Singapore, its really a preference thing. i don't fold my mirror at all.

Rodney is a site sponsor here. You will be able to find his contact under the site sponsor tab. His workshop is in woodlands though.

Re: Underpowered 1 series?

Thks. Will look out for Rodney contact later.
For the 3 yr (or 60km) free service package is iDrive will prompt when with the +/-2k from the so call 12000km mark. If go before and after this mark, servicing is change able and any parts found faulty is chargeable even if warranty parts. But if go in at within the range those "warranty parts" will be replace FOC if found faulty, except brakes. Or unless is iDrive shows fault, then drive in they will access and advise if payable..

Do share you "test report" when you receive your dongle. Because I read on carly.com and it mentioned can only do diagnostic & parameter edit for F2x versions.. (Do share your experience incase I am wrong)

Re: Underpowered 1 series?

Hi Nicepal,

Sure i would share when i have it.. Should be in the next two days.

i checked with them and they confirmed with me that you can do a battery registration and DPF force regen (amongst other things) before i purchased it. But, we will see...

Re: Underpowered 1 series?

It can only do what normal obd 2 dongles does for the F series. You can't do coding. Can read sensors, data, clear codes etc.

Re: Underpowered 1 series?

Henry.. Thks
Whiskie, thanks for sharing too.
I am not that of a technology guy but it is always good to know something more...

Re: Underpowered 1 series?

well... feedback from other users overseas, seems to agree that it can do a regen and some coding on the F model... but again, i can't confirm until i tried it on mine...

in any case, as long as you have the version 2 dongle, they are constantly upgrading the functions and i would be able to get it in time to come. (i hope, without additional cost)
