Re: Underpowered 1 series?
Just drive normally... seriously how often do you hit 150 or 160kmph? ha ha... let the autobox do its job, you will hardly (if at all) reach 3.5k rpm...
these days i think PML needs to generate more revenue from servicing.. that's why its 12,000 km... In the previous E46 model, the service interval was 25,000km... then somehow in 2007 they change it to 12,000km for the e90 onwards.
Do bear in mind though, the way the service interval is calculated is based on a usage regression approach. Meaning, it actually calculates how much fuel is being burnt in your car. This is a direct impact on how often the car needs to be serviced. For example, if you are always on the highway and burning little fuel, you will probably hit very close to the 12,000 km service interval. However, if you are always stuck in Traffic Jams, or sitting idle in the car with your engine on, you will see that the 12,000km marker will drop really fast.
if you are unsure about driving 12,000 km on the first tank of oil, just drop by to R2D (Rodney) and have him swap the oil for you. I have checked with him and he told me his team are all certified to service diesel engines as well.
Rodney can also do some simple (and anal) coding for you. For Example, when you turn on your aircon, the air circulation is usually on "A" (Automatic). He can code it for you such that it will always be on "M" (Manual).
Other things you might want to consider coding is the delay for your folding mirror. Default is always 3 sec. (ie you hold your lock door button for 3 sec) and the mirror will fold. you can code this to zero second. So that when you lock your doors, the mirror automatically folds.
Others have coded the OBD to show the speed digitally as well. But this, i'm not sure if Rodney can do.
My carly dongle and App is on the way. hopefully i will get it by this evening, if not next week. Once i have it, it can do all the above, plus to force a regeneration (but with your type of mileage, i don't think you will need). Happy for you to use it as well, provided once i figure out how it works. To buy the dongle, its about EUR 60 (for the dongle) and SGD 50 (for the App).
Cheers,
PS: I'm not related to Rodney. I used him on and off for my servicing / quick fix problems

oh ya.. one more thing to add is this is the first time I heard a SE tell me car run in is 2000km, lower than 160km/h and lower than 4000rpm....
(though the manual stated diesel car is 2000km, lower than 150km/k and lower than 3500rpm)
mostly on my previous jap petrol cars, SE will tell me run in is 1000km, keep below 100km/h & 4000rpm. though now the distance 2000km but lower than 150km/h, how to reach there when singapore's max is only 90km/h. also the next service I think is 12000km while pertol car they will ask to go flush the engine oil after 1000km.....
