Vibration noise coming from dashboard/behind console

Hi all

Just collected my black 118i today, must say the drive is just sheer pleasure!

But one thing spoilt the fun....there's a vibrating noise coming from the dashboard every few minutes.

Anybody experience this or it's the rubber/plastics expanding and contracting on a first drive?

Congrats, my 118 doesn't have this prob. Bring it in to PML or Munich for a check if it persists.

no, not supposed to have sound. just the smell of new plastic from engine bay when hot. Go back to agent and ask them to check.

Vibration is not loud but audible enough.

But it may be unnoticeable to some.

Sales agent say he will come and test drive to listen, but if not attentive, you may miss the sound.

Should I just bring in directly to PML? Sigh, si beh sian, first day and got problem....

If it's not your first car and it bothers you, there is something to fix. your problem small issue. my 8 days old new car need to remove dashboard... I flipped harder than you =P

You may want to wait abit longer for the creaking noise from the 4 doors before sending in. Hehe

I 'tahan' until first 2k servicing and problem was solved after putting 3M tape. Guess what, now i also start to get some very faint noise appearing from the front dashboard. I just rectify it by turning up my music volume since i got my sound system upgraded.

I heard that poor engine mounting can cause vibration.

If it is really engine mounting, it will get worse as the days go by.....jialat.

Wah, what so serious must remove dashboard?

I thought you can invoke lemon law and maybe get an exchange?

Lemon law sounds nice nia.
cannot really invoke it like some magical spell.
chances are dealer will have to try rectifying it until its really hopeless.
then again, the materiality of the problem would come into play.
sounds from dash is pretty subjective so I don't think there will be any exchanges

Yeap, Lemon law is like divorce. Not supposed to be used at every opportunity. My colleague's new VW Golf in Malaysia got gearbox issues that they cannot fix months after months. In the end, they change to another one for him ( showroom car ) but slightly higher options but from white color to red color =P. But that gearbox problem was really severe. car was undriveable for months in workshop. They tried to fix, escalate to VW germany still no technical resolution so change for him.

My issue was cooling cool leak. 1 day job. lemon law( And who has successfully applied lemon law on cars that are big ticket items yet? )I don't want to wait 8 months for a new car to come even if they volunteered... Also it's a good time to know how's the warrantee and worksmanship of the PI/workshop. It was a happy encounter, no sweat, no need to ru lai shen zhang. All done nicely and I got the car back 1.2 days after. =) The best outcome for an unfortunate situation i guessed and appreciated.

It's also more tricky since I have a PI car and the history of sad stories behind them. Am glad my encounter so far has been good and positive and a happy one so far. =)

It is just the alpine retrofit which should come as standard. The standard sound system is way too crappy.

I got the same problem as yours, but will send in to tape the 4 doors. Haven't run in. Cannot tahan liao.

After careful listening, the sound appears to be like some calibration noise rather than vibration noise.

Is it the idrive calibration or my agent was saying it's the air con compressor cutting in and out.

The problem is that the sound only appears intermittently......

If you turn off aircon, got sound or not?
