I feel that the E46 Sports edition is equal if not even a better drive compare to the current E90. there're more feel from the steering constantly providng feedback on the road and better response from the engine as well. Hmm..... thought the new E90 would be a better drive but doesn't seems to be the case....!

I incline to agree with Nisteroo. Tho I am driving the E90 320, I still feel that my brother's E46 318 SE is tad more agile, have slightly smoother and immediate throttle response, something like linear power delivery, somehow better steering input, and not to forget that lovely to hold M steering wheel! Darn, even the SA at PML agree with my feelings!!! But I have grown to be quite fond of my E90 lah, afterall we are not talking major difference here...

Re: Want to buy E90 or Merc C180k

Hi ! fooman and Nisteroo.

The best driven car goes to E46 318i Sport Edition, love the Sport Seat :)

Don't forget the Sport Edition has very high OMV Value ~S$45K If I am not wrong :)

Re: Want to buy E90 or Merc C180k

Offered a July 2005 E90, mileage 34'000 km. 1 owner, body and interior looks good but the under-body seems too new for its 'age' and 'usage' ... so kinda worried ...
He is asking $110'000. Any comments from you guys? Quite tempted but I think it should be a bit cheaper considering the 'above average mileage'. Any opinions/comments? Would you buy it?

Re: Want to buy E90 or Merc C180k

mileage is slightly high i think. Exterior always look good when u buy from dealers bcos of touch up work. But cant be as shimmy as mine right? kekeke.... unless they apply menzerna paint protection treatment once every 2 months. See, I pamper my car more than anything....kekekeke

Re: Want to buy E90 or Merc C180k

PPSL has 2-3 Oct till Nov 05 ones with very low milege (less than 10k)...but maybe cost 6-7k more but with additional 12 mths warranty.... might as well stretch yr budget and get those since u are willing to folk out almost 110k already? Unless the person can sell u at 105k.... :)

Re: Want to buy E90 or Merc C180k

Thanks Heeraj but the asking price is really too high. The current new price is now $128! Very soon I think the price will drop cos of Merc's promotion last week - new C180K is possible at about $129! I am waiting. Year end will mean quotas and great sales as Merc and BM fight for positions.

Re: Want to buy E90 or Merc C180k

Just called the MB SE. it is still 132888 with 3k star dollar. not exactly 129k on the selling price.

Re: Want to buy E90 or Merc C180k

Thanks for all the help from you guys. After considering a few used E90s and Mercedes C180ML/K, I have made my decision. I had wanted to get a used one but got such a good deal that I have ordered a new C180K Sports Edition. After 4 BMWs, this is my first Mercedes, lets see how it goes. Thanks again. Oh Spidy, how is your Black C180K? Er ... you didnt do your homework well leh! :)

Re: Want to buy E90 or Merc C180k

how much did you get the merc sports edit ones for? :)

Re: Want to buy E90 or Merc C180k

I had originally contemplated my first euro car to be either (bm or merc) but settled for bm cause I enjoy the bm drive .......... :p

Re: Want to buy E90 or Merc C180k

Hi !

C&C will offer very good deal for current C180K Sport Edition because new model C class will launch soon.

I remember when PML try to get ride of their old stock of E46 318i Sport Edition, they lelong like mad. But those who bought the last batch of E46 is a good buy. If I am not wrong it is ~S$128K with very high OMV value and lots of M-Techic accessories + Extremely low interest rate (~1.8%).

Frankly, I hardly see any C180K Sport Edition on the road.

See you around :)

Re: Want to buy E90 or Merc C180k

Guys....Report on Merc...perhaps that might change a mind or 2.

Mercedes vs. Consumer Reports
The luxury carmaker is not happy with recent rankings that appeared in the 2007 New Car Preview.

By Alex Taylor III, Fortune senior editor
November 20 2006: 9:11 AM EST
NEW YORK (Fortune) -- There is an old saying in the newspaper business that you shouldn't pick a fight with somebody who buys ink by the gallon.
That hasn't stopped Mercedes-Benz from taking a few swipes at Consumer Reports over some very damaging reviews of Mercedes vehicles.
First some background: For the 2007 edition of its New Car Preview, Consumer Reports surveyed its six million subscribers about what serious problems they had with the cars they own. Some 1.3 million responded and the results weren't good for Mercedes-Benz.
Here's a brief blow-by-blow: In a listing of the least reliable luxury cars, based on 2006 models, three of the six cars are Mercedes: the old S-class (prior to the recent redesign), the CLS and the E-class Sedan.
Same thing in sport cars. Mercedes hogged three of the seven slots for least reliable: the SL, the CLK and the V6 SLK.
Among mid-sized SUVs, the M-class, a quality disaster when it first came out, still ranks as the least reliable in its grouping.
Other luxury manufacturers turn up on the least reliable list, with BMWs, Jaguars and Cadillacs sprinkled throughout.
But what is striking about Mercedes' performance is its consistency. Of the 11 models reviewed by Consumers, none are recommended. Seven are left off of the list because of poor reliability; the remaining four are considered too new to predict.
Mercedes has the worst record of any automaker with that many models. For a brand that claims to be "engineered like no other car in the world," that is fairly frightening.
"They understand the problems and they are fixing some of them, but they have a long way to come," says David Champion, director of automotive testing at Consumers.
For its part, a spokesman for Mercedes says that the data in the Consumer Reports rankings "is totally out of sync with what we're seeing in the mainstream research as well as our own customer satisfaction and warranty data." He points to the good marks Mercedes gets for ride, handling, comfort, safety and performance.
He may be whistling into a windstorm, though. "Car buyers pay a lot of attention to CR's ratings," says industry consultant George Peterson. "They perceive them as unbiased."
Research by Peterson's own firm, AutoPacific, substantiates CR's findings. Its 2006 Ideal Vehicle Awards show Mercedes not only ranking ninth out of ten among luxury brands but also lower than the top ten mainstream brands like Hyundai (Charts) and Subaru.
Quality problems have been a big issue at Mercedes for several years and the company keeps insisting It has a handle on them. But issues keep cropping up.
The JD Power Initial quality study for 2006 models, which measures defects identified by customers during the first 90 days of ownership, put Mercedes at 25th out of a field of 37 brands. That was well behind leaders like Porsche, Toyota's (Charts) Lexus, Jaguar, GM's (Charts) Cadillac and Infiniti.
The Mercedes spokesman blames that low ranking on two major complaints: brake dust from the high performance brakes and problems with the new seven speed transmission, that he says have been repaired.
He adds: "As you're aware, the IQS included a new survey methodology by JD Power which goes well beyond the actual quality of the vehicles and into subjective measurement (an important distinction) of how customers feel about such things as the design, look and operation of features, controls and equipment."
Mercedes still makes superb automobiles - striking in design, sophisticated in engineering, exhilarating in performance. It attracts hugely loyal buyers and its cars retain value better than most.
But being a leader means being constantly under attack by those behind you. Along with BMW and Lexus, Mercedes ranks in the top tier of luxury brands.
But until it can tame the devilish complexity of its cars into more reliable transportation, its position will remain precarious. And it doesn't help to be in denial about the problems you face - or to attack the messenger who delivers the bad news.

Re: Want to buy E90 or Merc C180k

BMW Silver, You can spot the Sports Edition from the rear wheels which appear to stick out cos the rear wheels are wider than the front wheels. Also the sports edition has black interiors only, new wheel design and aluminium interior in place of the wood trims. The Sports Editions also sound a little bit louder due to the sports exhaust. I have seen a few on the roads already.

Re: Want to buy E90 or Merc C180k

WayeChai, My last BM has its share of problems too, the gearbox was always problematic and the aircon was not consistently cold. I think if reliability is the key issue, then buy a Toyota but that is not looking at things from the right perspective. The decision comes from the head and also the heart and the eyes? :) My family has 2units of 1960 Toyota BJ-40 diesel in Johor - each can run from KL to Penang and back almost non-stop and still run back to JB after a night's rest. I mean, there are other issues to consider or else the only car that everybody wants to drive will be a Toyota (ooops, Toyota also had its share of problems recently ah?)
I think in this bracket, the choices are BM320 E90, Mercedes Benz C180K W203 or the Lexus IS250. Not easy to decide but in the end I think the C180K won my heart. The E90 looks so spartan inside. Also too many "young" people drive the E90, I am much older lah. Plus these days new cars are covered by a 3 yr warranty and road-side 24 hour emergency service. So 'wot me worry"? The only worry is that between a BM and a Merc, the baddies in a neighbouring country prefer the Star! Well, they also like the Harrier/RX300; RAV4; X-Trail, CRV ... :)
