What's there to elaborate? They just break down and do a search on all the related problems associated with them.

my advise is book a full check session with PML before your warranty expired, best around 85K mileage or near to 3 yrs. you need to pay for this check session. its about $180 there about. PML will hold your car for 3 days or longer depending on the check results. they will replace everything that failed in that test session. my air-con system was replaced during that checks under warranty checks. if you have any concern about your car that wanted them to check specifically during that session you just need to highlight to your service adviser.

hope this help

Thanks bro.

As for the diagnostics check, I wonder if they can detect mechanical failure or wear and tear or premature failure. I paid for some diagnostic session with PML once but they didn't find any problems. I had to point out the faults to them. So I really have doubts about these kind of computer aided tests. Just another way to milk me...based on my experience.

So my intention of asking around is to pre-empt myself of possible failures and to equip myself with the knowledge of what to look out for.

If anyone else has experienced of being a victim to car failures just before or after warranty expires, please share. I appreciate your help. Please ignore if my questions are dumb. Some form of explanation on the faults would definitely be useful. Many thanks.

Re: What common problems or faults after warranty expires?

they replaced my air-con system which was what I didn't even told them abt. all i asked for was to check my engine and gearbox. well, i was lucky i guess. i heard from others air con system likely would fail at 110-120K mileage onwards. mine was checked, failed and replaced around 90K mileage. tear n wear stuff is really hard to made claim against. eg, valvetronic, radiator, hose, etc. unless u had record showing you had this issues feedback in your service record with PML. eg. irregular coolant top up or top up engine oil regularly 2-3 times between service interval. but you can complain everything you think you want them to look it. its up to PML and BMW to honor that complain. in my experience PML honor complaints and warranty claims but its so troublesome means you need to leave your car with them days or week. nevetheless, is a process that can be improve. this my 1st BMW, I love the ride and because it drive so well, and naturally have higher rate of tear and wear rate. my valuetronic was replaced twice, twice on central lock for both front doors, folding side mirror was replace due to faulty motor, sterring airbag replaced due to BMW logo got oxidise (i am not kidding, that's what I complained to the SA), leather parth on my drive was replaced due to wear of the leather (mine was lemon, very obvious), exhaust oxygen sensor, i can't remember all of them...

will i buy again from PML? yes, if the price of the car is right. not that ridiculous margin, unless money not matter to me.

don't get too hung up by what other respond. is that this stuff discussed all over the forum. if you search, I am sure you find more than what I've said or similar. remember don't read too much into it. every car is unique as how its use and driven and manufacture. even the most common problem may not seen to apply on your car. that's luck, I guess.

enjoy the drive is more important. since its worth so much, make sure you make it worth. if you do. even it break down you would NOT be so 'Tui' cos you used it that's why it break down. in the end, just how you see things.

BMW is JOY.

Personally, I would check with a non-biased workshop or even better still a workshop that is out to make sure that your car is ok. If they find a problem - you go back to PML before the warranty expires. PML might be biased since they back the warranty.

Asking PML to check is like asking your own finance manager to audit your own books............

Re: What common problems or faults after warranty expires?

agree. go to outside workshop to do 100% check. look for potential problems.
then go to PML to report fault and "hope" they will check the named parts and replace them ....

Re: What common problems or faults after warranty expires?

Actuallu not really lah... If there is any fault that PML finds out and claim warranty, they also make money from the Labour involved in tfixing the car.

I didn't pay for any check, but i used to go to this lady call Cindy in alexandra. she is good.

First she automatically book a slot for me to send my car in for a check right about 2 weeks before warranty was over.

the list of things that was changed:-

1) Air con system, coil, blower and compressor.

2) all the pipes connecting to the radiator

3) Radiator fan

4) memory seat module

5) Wiper water tank

6) some steering wheel busher (i don't know what's that)

7) new first aid bag, coz the old one broked

Think that's about it...

the mileage then was about 47k. According to her, 90% of the E90 will have some issue with the aircon nearing 3 years....

Hope this helps

Re: What common problems or faults after warranty expires?

My car is with PML now. Let's see if they can spot any problems. My only worry is the additional scratches on my bodywork. Everytime my car is there, i am sure to receive new presents... scratches.

Re: What common problems or faults after warranty expires?

hmmm...my E60 is also nearing end of warranty.
so should I send in to PML to do a check?
E90Koh, pls share your findings. thanks

I think if it is the same Cindy that I go to previously, she has left PML about a year ago ...

On top of the above lists, the Battery normally fails at the 3 year mark.

Spot on! PML noticed and changed the battery FOC.

I am still waiting for them to confirm what needs to be replaced under warranty and what is chargeable.
