Hi Bros..

Need feedback and advise..

My ride E90 is one month old.

1 In the morning, when the car is cool, i realised my footbrake is locked as if it cannot be depressed. So I insert the key, and try to press start.. its very difficult. It can only be done, after keep using my strength to press the brake, till it loosen then can start. Is that normal?

2 While driving after rain, i realised that i hear water dripping sound under carriage when driving. "TicK" tick" tick sound.. what could it be?

Sibei sian.. must bring back PML.. no time leh. Do they provide replacement car for such stupid things?

Pls advise before I go pml and maluu myself.. hhehehe

Cheers!

Re: Whats the problem!!???

i assume you have the start/stop button.

mine is a 525 and sometimes in the morning, the brake pedal cannot be depressed. i can step it down slightly and start the engine. Mine is keycrank.

There will be a stupid message that asked me to step the brake before starting engine which can be ignored.

Re: Whats the problem!!???

Hi Stanley,

Don't worry about your ride ; it's a good car, it's got "character", you must discover them.
I think a lot of new owners' expectation of the car is very very high, and got a bit "sian" when things don't operate the "japanese" way .

For your first "problem", my ride had the same condition.
This car needs a "brake activated" signal to the engine for it to start. Possibly because of pressure build up or loss of it in the morning, you need to step a little harder to activate the signal.

I have learn to live with it, just a harder step only in the morning.
If you feel uncomfortable about it, just send it in and maybe all of us can learn something new here.

No experience with your second condition.

Cheers !!!

Strange leh, i had the usage of at least 3 diff courtesy cars on 4 diff occasions when i sent in my 1 month old 318 cabrio in Sep 2002 for various warranty issues. of course, i cried and wept and had the face of "Bao Qing Tian".

Cheers

Re: Whats the problem!!???

I think you need to send you car in for a replacement of your brake booster or at least the vacuum check valve. A leak in either of these 2 will cause your car to loose the vacuum assist on the first start of the morning cos the vacuum would have leaked over the night and your brake safety switch is pressure activated. Good to get it replaced cos the leaking vacuum actually degrades brake performance generally.

A quick test is to time the various stops you make over the course of a few days to monitor how hard is the brake pedal. To take reference on what is hard, switch off your car and press the pedal repeatedly. After about 10 presses, that pedal feeling is considered hard.
If the vacuum is sealed, the pedal should feel soft for the first press even in the morning...

Cheers

Agreed. Fight for courtesy car if your ride is gonna be in the workshop for more than a day. I manage to get taxi vouchers or replacement vehicle for most of the times i sent my ride in for warranty related issues. i drive a E90 320

Re: Whats the problem!!???

One of your problems may be a vaccum leak. Your engine continually sucks air out of the brake booster to create a vacuum. If your engine shuts down while on the road, you have enough vacuum for 1 to 2 more brake presses before you lose assist. This is BY DESIGN.

If you shut down the car, don't press the brake pedal again, the next day you still should have at least 1 more brake press before the pedal jams up. If not, you have a leak - this gotta be fixed before it gets worse.

Re: Whats the problem!!???

Hi Michael..

Thats very enlightening. I will not press brake when i switch engine off. I try over a next few days and i let u know the outcome. Thanks buddy!
