I vote for the Akrapovic. Cause it's a full system and it's titanium. Titanium exos just sounds different. Also. Fitment and quality is in a league of it's own.

I have researched the Akra Evolution on the net quite a bit and it really sounds fantastic. My question is: is it approved by LTA? I am seriously considering this for my soon-to-arrive E92 M3.

Re: Which aftermarket exhaust would u guys recommend?

Check with BVO, last i heard only the rear end box can be get approval

Re: Which aftermarket exhaust would u guys recommend?

The whole system is TUV certified so I think its a matter of time before the whole system is approved.

Life is too short. Enjoy now, worry later. Right Bro Mandingo?

Do they have a due process of getting TUV certified stuffs approved by them? If there is, i don't mind going through it. I won't put anything on my ride that would get me pulled over by some men in white.

thats resonance aka drone. All aftermkt xos have this effect. u cant do anything abt it. compared to other xos systems, akra evo is already very tame

Hi all,

Just to step in to clarify a few details here.

Alex from Works Performances just joined us a couple of days ago as a site sponsor and they are the sole and exclusive distributors of Akrapovic Exhausts for Singapore. They also work with you to help you get your exhausts approved by LTA so you don't have to worry about compliance on the roads.

I've visited their offices and I've had a chat with the man himself - and he's a great guy to speak to if you have any questions. Call Alex (6842 4566). He'd be glad to speak to many of you guys. He's still quite new on the forums and getting familiarized to posting - so do give him some time :)

=== OK MY PERSONAL OPINION on the Akrapovic Exhaust itself... ====

It is a must. I've personally driven a stock BMW M3 for a few days, and had a kind friend who lent me his M3 with Akrapovic exhausts on it, and I can safely say that it makes a day and night difference. It is a must have.

Does not drone (and I've driven M3s with different setups before), sounds awesome during WOT and it is rated extremely highly in the US forums. Alot of M3 owners have it on their cars at this point in time - so if you come for the next M drive, you can hear it person for yourself - highly recommended.

Re: Which aftermarket exhaust would u guys recommend?

On another point about drone..

It's up to you whether you can stand it or not - exhausts with drone doesn't mean they're all that bad. I'm running a KKS exhaust with open valve operation which makes it crazy loud + drone. But that's my kind of juice that powers my boat.

On another point - it is an absolute pain to drive in that mode up to KL and I usually plug my in-ear earphones each time I do make that drive up. (of course i also run it in closed-mode) to deal with the drone. The best thing is to try it for yourself and decide...

IMO - drone is still a pain if you cruise on highways quite a fair bit.

Bon Jour!

Hey just becoming a member, glad to be here! I'm glad to be right here last but not least, heading to publish considering the fact that I've been reading through a lengthy time.

Sooo anyways, sufficient info about me, see you all around and hello again haha.

BTW, what can I do to make myself have a cool title like some people here have?

I did on my exhaust and as an experiment - I got someone to weld a giant of a piece of rubber to the exhaust can. The droning reduced quite noticably.

Sometimes they call this piece of rubber a vibration dampener or absorber and it has an odd bell like shape. Anyway, I decided to get that piece of rubber (60hz version) from PML after I saw some research about how similiar devices are used in power generators that use it to reduce NVH .............

The guys at the exhaust shop thought it was some sort of a freakish weird setup I have when I handed the rubber over to them said "how much to weld this on to my muffler and to that pipe also ?" .........

Guys do note that only the slip-on system & not the full evolution system can be LTA certified.

The slip-on system is basically a replacement of your rear mufflers with hardly any power gains. Akra's website themselves advertise the slip-on to give an extra 3PS as compared to stock. Note that PS is a unit of measurement that is less than HP. Hence 3PS < 3HP.

It's the evolution system that gains 24HP and is 23kg lighter. Regardless of where it's bought from, the evolution system cannot get LTA certificarion as they replace the 4 factory cats with 2 of their own.

IMHO really no point in wasting money on the slip-on.

Give us a call at 6459-0038 or 9273-5262 for more technical info or just to compare prices :wavey:

We have installed the evolution for many customer's cars including my own. Drop by for a listen.

Agreed. Evolution system is the way to go. Why go less than half way and get less than half the gains? Drop by BOSS and you'll most probably find an M3 or two with the Evo system...do be ready to get an "ear wax removal" session free!

Re: Which aftermarket exhaust would u guys recommend?

My M3 is from Munich. Does this exhaust void my 5-yr warranty and free maintenance package? I remember they told me "no mods are allowed".

This can be tricky. You will notice that many of their cars are modded seemingly with their full knowledge and permission.

Best is to email BMW Asia. Munich reports to BMW Asia hence even if the Dealer closes one eye when it comes to a more serious warranty claim BMW Asia will investigate and decide themselves if the warranty claim should be honored and they have pretty much the final say.

If they (BMW Asia) tell you that your warranty won't be affected by this mod then you should have them put this down in writing so you won't have problems later.

Do keep us posted on this for the benefit of all brothers here :)

The alternative is to mod the exhaust on the side quietly. Call Nic 9273-5262 for some suggestions

Taking into account the after-sales department in BMW Asia is run by complete n00bs who have absolutely no knowledge, I think this is a MUST. Good point DRE.
