Re: Which Brake Fluid do you use?

depends what your purpose is. if only for street driving then most generic brands will do the job. if for track use, then need to be more selective and go for something with higher boiling point.

Actually, I switch between two different ones. ATE (probably the manufacturer of your brake fluid reservoir) makes a variety of brake fluids. See the attached picture.

It all depends on what is currently in your reservoir. If I want to bleed the brakes, I either use the Super Blue (which is blue) if the brake fluid in the reservoir is yellow, or the Type 200 (which is almost colorless) if the fluid in the reservoir is blue.

You see, when bleeding your brakes, you want to make sure that all the new fluid you put in the reservoir at least makes it out of the bleeder screw on your calipers. If your fluid is initially yellow, once you pour in the Super Blue stuff and start the bleeding process, what comes out of the bleeder screw goes from orange to yellow, then to green and eventually to blue. That way you KNOW that the new fluid is in your calipers.

And don't forget, always bleed first from the farthest caliper from the reservoir. That way you ensure that your brake lines have all new fluid in them.

I just called,

LI HONG AUTO ENTERPRISE
NO.1 Bukit Batok Crescent
#02-32 WCEGA Plaza
Singapore 658064
Tel: 6570-0079

He sells ATE Super Blue for $18/L. Same goes with the Typ 200 (or at least that's what I understood when I asked him for the ATE yellow brake fluid).

And believe me, unless you are taking your car to the track consistently, and if brake performance is degrading due to extremely hard braking, you're not going to see any difference using the DOT5 bullshit. It's all about marketing and separating the consumer from his hard earned money.

Martin.

noob here.

I suppose it wld be cheaper to bring ur own brake fluid for change at PML than to use theirs?
Is it a lot of savings? if not then dun bother.

How much to do it at PML - fluid and labour? car under warranty still.

why dont u call PML to ask for their pricing ? wat i can share is that wen i change my brake to BBK, the 3rd party workshop says we can use any Dot4 brake fluid for replacement. So, I jus got myself those $12 / bottle (1L) type of Dot4 fluid. My 320i needs 2 bottle to bleed + refill. Labour shd be $40 - $60 ba.
