Why don't you do some testings and share your findings here? Like one tank with 3/4 95 plus 1/4 98, next tank with 1/2 95 plus 1/2 98, etc etc. Then next time we can all make our own COCKTAILS at petrol kiosks.

My conclusion is this: petrol brand is like medicine. It works for some but not for others. Some people swear by Shell, some insists that Caltex is the best. I was a user of Caltex for the greater part of my driving life but 5 years back switched to SPC - a brand I always "despise" but lo and behold, I thought my car felt smoother and quieter! Real or just psychological? I don't know. But what I like about SPC is that for certain credit cards, i get upfront 15% or 16% discount rather than accumulate points to exchange for stuff I don't need. All brands work but it can be a very emotional and psychological decision which brand you choose.

if u have been wearing Nike shoes for most of your life and now u switch to Adidas, u you find Adidas shoes actually feel lighter and more comfortable, hence u can run faster...
Its all in the mind, new things should always be better OR old things used for too long no more feel...

depends on your fengshui, u need to go check ur Bazi and link it with the Pillars to see which facing is good.
If u face wrong direction against ur Qi, the tyre might explode in ur face

I dunno whether hearsay she say (yes, it's a she this one) can be trusted or not, but here's what I learnt from a petrol-chemical engineer (yes, she's a she) from the industry.
Shell V power & Shell 98 differs only in the 'secret' ingredient the company adds into the V power - so secret that only the relevant guys in Shell would know. Similarly, for any 'premium grade' petrol by any of the other companies, the same rule applies.
The 'secret ingredients' may not necessarily translate to better mileage, but depending on what's added (and she doesn't & wouldn't know), may translate to better driving experience (more acceleration feel etc) - but, to say that bhp can be increased by petrol grade is, according to her (and yes, she's quite chio - sorry, no piccies, she's camera shy) a bucket of hogwash.
I still pump V-power 98 because I gian for free toaster with 1.5x Escape points accummulated.

i found the perfect formula for petrol efficiency and power out put.
pump half tanks Fuelsave 98 at Shell then proceed to SPC to pump their 95 for remaining half.
Fuelsave 98 have very good fuel saving compounds tech added to it and will bosst efficiency but the SPC 95, actually makes the car more responsive in ways that i cant explain. for a 50/50 balanced results for the performance blend the 2 and voila! Btw, it averaged 96.5 octane.
this secret was stumbled upon by me once when i had to pump full tank to go M'sia and there was only SPC available. (only had half tank of Fuelsave 98 then).

It boils down to driving habits and route taken.
Driving habits will dictate how much fuel is consumed, a heavy footed driver using high octane petrol will caused the car to consume more petrol comparatively to another light footed driver using a lower octane petrol.
Route taken, if the route you take routinely has different kiosk, then good, else imagine you have to drive the extra distant just to top up the "ideal" petrol. isn't it like "robbing paul to pay peter"?
As for myself, i top up at Esso, Caltex and SPC because 1. my company has fleet card, 2. a lot of them along my routine route and 3. my driving habit (light footed) doesn't need high octane petrol.
however, sometime (once in blue moon and coincide with payday) i will top up 98 octane petro.

But apparently there's a science behind it!
For 2012 520i, pump 95 from Esso or Caltex but not Shell.
For 2011 520i, go for 92 - especially on cold/rainy days.
For 2012 525i PI car, it's ok to mix 98 with VPower.
For 2011 528i PML car, use 95. Try diesel if out of warranty.
For 2012 535i on stock tyres, stick with VPower but be sure to rock the boot.
There's a chart with more permutations for cars made in 2010 and earlier, let me Google for it
