S$172 for the 523? Is that with the bank rebate on financing or is that the price offered by PML?

For the 523i, $172K is the net price from PML ... also checked it out with them yesterday.
Another $3K knocked off (i.e. $169K) if you take a $100K loan over 7 yrs.

Like the 525i, comes with i-Drive, but not the SatNav.


325i Manual is also about the same price as the 523i Auto.
Personally, I'd take the 325i Manual.

You need to decide whether it's the E60 or the E90 that you like in the first place.

If you do choose to get the E60, then I wouldnt get either the 523 or the 525. For new 523 money, I would buy a used 530. Saw one in the ads for about 175k. Then someone has taken the new car depre hit on your behalf....

If you want comfort plus performance and the 530i is already beyond your budget, I suggest getting the 520i. Reason??

1) Cheaper to buy
2) Cheaper to maintain

3) Extra money is MORE than enough to do serious mod to make your car fly faster than any 530i , believe me. (It is not true that you spend tons of money to mod a bimmer and get very little gains. Most people who say this in the first place you notice are those that CUMULATIVELY spend a lot on a series of small mods but not willing to do the serious stuff that actually MAKES a difference. Go read foreign BMW websites... come on.. there are even modded M5's churning more than 1000bhp! Go to Hamann website and check out the E46 M3 Las Vegas! My friend actually saw the latter in action .... moving from standstill at 3rd gear resulting in a wheel spin?! Not fast enough? I rest my case...)

4) Most Singaporeans who buy bimmers are non enthusiasts who largely buy it in the name of image. Therefore most who want a 3er will get the 318i (or 320i in the case of the E90) and those who wants a 5er will get the 520i. So buying the 520i will make it that much easier to sell it in future.

Just my 2 litres worth.. heh heh...

i totally agree with you dude... u wan perfomance and a bmw for the inline6. anyways... IMO, it's not true that you spend tons and loads and get little returns, yah lar.. you spend 500 here and there for small small things.. you get small small rreturns, no one is saying that modding a bmw will be cheap but no one is agreeing that the returns will be small,

If you want to have fun with ur car.. mod here and there.. then you know which way to go.. like wat arsony sed, you want a stock car with power? 330.

I'd definitely get the 523 for the comfort and executive feel (althought I prefer the 7 series). E90 interior feels too cramped and IMHO more suitable for ladies to drive. S$170K is a good deal. Don"t bother with the 525 or 530, the premium is not worth it.

both 523 and 525 have capacity of 2497cc yet thier hp is 177 and 218 respectively can some one explain.

i think the 523 engine is a de-tuned version of the 525's.

Rumour has it that a certain workshop can tune up 20bhp on the 523i for $2k or thereabt.

malaysian here in KL. owns an e36 325i but planning to get the e60 523i or 525i.


the 525i is RM50K more than 523i. someone has asked abt whether the engine can be chipped to gain the same torque/horses as the 525i. from what i hear, apparently not.....just a bit more power that's all.

has any e60 523i owner actually gone to a OEM tuner to chip the car? i would be very interested to know the performance gain before putting money down one way or the other on a 5 series. when did BMW discontinue production of e60 520 and made the 523i as the entry level instead?


btw, are all e60s now sold as ckds in s'pore?

Yes, very true. The new 258bhp engine is also called the R engine and is a valvetronic engine.
