Which tuner to go for Cobb tune (N54)?

Re: Which tuner to go for Cobb tune (N54)?

Guys, your stock GB can take the torque from your modded beast ?
Or did you mod the GB internals ?

You mean like change clutch ?

Re: Which tuner to go for Cobb tune (N54)?

Yes, like clutch pack, bearing, etc ?

The 8spd ZF 8HP45 in F series cars is supposingly able to handle 450nm with some tolerance, I wonder how does it live with tuned N55 developing in excess of 500nm ?

N54 is likely matched with 6HP28 which is rated for 600nm so I guess that is not an issue.

Jason ... My car FBO with stock turbo is generating 660 nm and pro tune locally and our DCT can handles 750nm without issues.

with further addons ie turbos, methanol, fuels ... the cultch plates have to be changed. ie ssp/dodson.

Just waiting for a TCU flash to be developed for our n55 335 only ...

You mean a TCU flash after replacing clutches ?

I'll check if I have something for you ....

I think DCT only appears in late batch E9x 335 (i might be wrong)
Not sure which model of the 7DCT is 335 using, but likely 7DCI700 rated at 700nm
PowerShift | GETRAG

F30 335 should be running on 8spd torque converter
Was told that F gen cars from 320 to 335 using 8HP45 rated at 450nm (recently upgraded to 500nm) , thus my concern here
Cars | 8-Speed Automatic Transmission - ZF Friedrichshafen AG

ZF 8HP transmission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That means 7DCT need to upgrade clutch pack when torque goes above 700nm or so
And i really wonder what is there to be done for 8spd when torque goes above 500nm.

Re: Which tuner to go for Cobb tune (N54)?

A couple of things - just some thoughts

To stress the gearbox until it hits max torque limits - you have to lock the wheels all in place and rev all the way to build torque stress. E.g no one does launch control at 3.9k rpm on a BMW ......

Torque peak limits and published outputs are 2 different ratings because we do not know the limit multiple used.

What BMW labels as 6hp19d is mapped as 6hp28 from ZF. There's a huge difference in torque ratings which is confusing people.

There is a torque limit set on gearboxes to protect it. So tuners are always trying to play with that limit. There is also a clutch engagement curve that is being modified as well.

At this moment there is none.

What's m4 gear box? What n54 6 speed gearbox?

I believe Bmw gearbox is up to standard unless abuse or overheating.
Dct is strong but at 70k I do feel occasional slip. This should not be the case but we have to re educate how to use the gearbox.

Ie ... if we are always 3/4 throttle, it is best to turn on sports or steptronic mode... the usual drive mode is not correct....

I will embark a full chamge of racing clutch n then a Dct oil cooler.

A fine tune on TCU readaption.

Usual servicing of gearbox is essential as well.

Re: Which tuner to go for Cobb tune (N54)?

I am referring to the tcu software ..... We could try write something. Diff from high level adaptations.....

It take me 10 days to install the clutches plates.

Will your software be ready ? or you want to try on my DCT now before i fix up the new clutch plates.

With your new clutch plates .... Torque limits new specs expected ? Let me know ...

Re: Which tuner to go for Cobb tune (N54)?

Some newbie questions:

At the start I am stuck already:
I don't even know which map corresponds to my ecu ley... Haha.
I am a N54 335i.

(Ok managed to google the answer - gotta plug the AP into my ecu to know which is my ecu)

Also, what is the diff between Stage 1 and Stage 2 maps? Let's say I have aftermarket downpipes in my car, and that's about it...

(Ok managed to google the answer - For Stage 2, catless dp is a must...)

Thanks.

Another question:

What is our octane equivalence of Octane 93 in the States?
Will our 95 suffice?

Ooooohhhh...

Thanks Gerald. Damn the petrol prices....

Just curious, will Malaysia's 97 be equivalent to US Octane 93 as well?
