Wider normal tyres vs. Narrower semi-slicks

Ok, semi slicks have diff n softer compound. Hence grips better. But if u use a wider road tyre, can it approximate the semi slick performance?

Like, a Goodyear Asym 285 tyre vs say a Michelin Cup 255 ? I know there is still a diff but what I mean is will more rubber contact with the tarmac approximate the performance of a semi slick?

Pls dont :stfu: me,

I think you should compare RE11 vs Pirelli Corsa for instance.

Also, I think weather plays a part............... you kenna raining season I see how you drive.

Re: Wider normal tyres vs. Narrower semi-slicks

Hi, i am using CSC 3 with staggered formation. My realised that my left back tyres worn off 50% more than the right back. The worn off is evenly distributed, therfore i assume that alignment is not an issue, i was wondering what is the cause? The tyres shop was telling me that it is due to the there is a number of right hand turns on our building & carpark, can anyone verify it?

You are not alone.

A few of us have the same issue with Golden Shoe carpark. Entry and exit all right roundings. My previous PS2 wore out faster on the left as well.

ABD
It cant be appromixated in that sense. Even if 285 road tires hv more contact patch vs 255 Cup, it doesnt mean it will perform equal or better. A whole of other factors of such as compound itself, the steering feel, the braking, the lateral grip all of these are too important in the feature of a semi slick tires which road tires cant match.

Re: Wider normal tyres vs. Narrower semi-slicks

There's still performance repeatability. street tyres will experience heat degredation much earlier. they may also not respond to you differently, maybe on breakaway.

yokohama ad08. using 265/30/19 on my evox. works well for me - outperforms some of the other evoX on semi slick

outperforms? in what ways? how to quantify?

i think u not answering him...even tho i think his question is total rubbish. n not quantifiable.

Example ABD asked IS AP more accurate than Seiko? And Kuvesh answered my Patek is better than Citizen.

maybe my comment was an aggressive generalisation, but it was based on comparing my sepang time with other evoX with similar mods but different tires. Assuming the driver ability is the same, the timing difference will come from tires.

Semi slick is faster (as it should be) but the relative outperformance vs the AD08 is less than other street tires.

Re: Wider normal tyres vs. Narrower semi-slicks

A048 is considered semi track tires so performance gap is closer vs real semi slick ...
U put Advan Sport vs the semis then u c world of difference

Re: Wider normal tyres vs. Narrower semi-slicks

AD08s are kind of like RE070s.. blurring the line between street tires and semi slicks..

ABD, answer to your question doesn't matter unless you track, and that's a fact. Non-morons don't pull 1.1 G at 130km/h true speed on hot tires on public roads with the curbs or walls sitting 3 feet away waiting to flip or total the car

OIC, thanks for sharing, i am not alone :)

Yup, friends i have spoken to who need to go up and down carparks with circular ramps on a daily basis also say the wear difference is significant.

The best way out of it is to rotate your tyres. If you are running staggered, then best is if you buy dual-direction tyres like Michelin PS2 so you can swop intra axle, or chiong wrong direction up the carpark every other day.

Pls dont :stfu: me,
you are comparing APPLE and ORANGE
to me is like comparing LEXUS IS250 and Porshe GT2
or a Street performance and Racing Spec
for sure Michelin will win alot more over the GY
but when it starts to rain Michelin have to :silenced: and also starts
GY will be :nehnehhh::nehnehhh:
