Wind noise from my FL 320i (2 Months plus)

Hi, just drove up NS Highway and the noise from wind entering the door is really bad.
Its already noticeable on daily drive from around 110km onwards. But it gets really loud
and irritating when you hit speeds above 150km. Its worse that my previous ride which
had frameless door window. Is this normal or is there something wrong with my car?!

Bro,

You are not the first one to complain. A bro driving his new E60 also had this problem. Suspected is the rubber fitting on the door frame is not properly fitted. Go PML and demand that they rectify the problem.

I emphasis....DEMAND. If not they will just brush it off as normal

Cheers

I'm driving a pre-FL E90. I do get wind noise once the speed reaches 100km/hr. Is it a fault or its common? Please advice me so I can go bang table.

Re: Wind noise from my FL 320i (2 Months plus)

my 2005 car doesn't have any abnormally loud wind noises at 110kmh; cant comment abt 150kmh coz haven't hit that speed in Spore.

go bang table :)

Re: Wind noise from my FL 320i (2 Months plus)

heh i just recently noticed that i get some wind noise as well when i travel at >120kmh. didnt notice it previously because usually i blast music when i drive, only discovered it the other day when i was changing tracks.

not unbearable or overly irritating though... not even at 150kmh. so i'm thinking either ur car is not normal, or my ear is not normal...

Re: Wind noise from my FL 320i (2 Months plus)

am driving a pre FL E90. only slight wind noise at 120km/h.

I think its a matter of perception. ones definition of noisy maybe not be the case for another.

best if u bring it back to pml and ask them to allow you a test car to gauge if it poduces same amount of wind noise. if it does then i suppose its inherent in the design of the car.

Actually the wind noise is bearable, just irritated and surprise becoz its suppose to be luruxy car. I can't remember hearing wind noise when I was driving a 5yrs old civic at 100km/hr. If it common for conti car, then I won't want to take the trouble going to PML and without car for 1-2days.

Bro,

No need to bang table lah, knock table can liao.:D :D :D

I don't think its normal to experience any loud noise, unless its noise from your tyre.... ie rubber hardening or the type of thread on your tyre.

My hunch is the possible sub-standard workmanship when fixing the rubber lining ard your door.

My ride has no noise except from the engine roar at 170. Yet to try 200.

Hi, thanx for all the replies. I guess its our expectation of the quality of the car.
Conti Luxury Sedan still having the problems that even some cheaper Jap cars don't.
Anyhow, i think i'll only bring it to PML for check when i'm going for servicing in about 2 months time. Will demand them to give me a satisfactory answer.

Bro, its not so much the car's standards, but the final touches that's done at PML that is sometimes not up to standard.

Don't forget, you ride goes through final touch up in PML one day b4 you receive it.

Could be the final touches. Jux did 160 today..... no noise

Cheers

Re: Wind noise from my FL 320i (2 Months plus)

For the benefit of all sis n bro having the question of wind noise in cabin from this thread, I went down to Alexander yesterday to bring a friend down to intro to my SE. Went to Kg Arang on Tuesday, though, for a meetup with some sis n bros from the forum but didnt got the chance to test. So test drove the 3 series(althought I had a hard time getting myself well fitted onto the seat.... due to my size) at Alexander instead.

Told my SE that I probably will hit it hard, so we got ourselves on the AYE at 3pm, where Traffic is smoother. Rammed it up to 130..... got some small amt of wind noise but I have to say its quite bearable..... comparing it to my dad's going-to-retired Cefiro. Not as quite though... as compared to e60..... but unless we have very sensitive ears...... I generally wouldn't have mind.

Sorry that I didnt have the opportunity to go up to 150 or more due to traffic conditions in Singapore as well as my SE ard, so I think 130 was the max I did on that day.

My suggestion for those sis n bros who are still uncomfortable with the wind noise to pay a visit to some of the Site sponsors or your favourite workshop to see what they can do to improve the noise insulation of your ride further.

End of Report

Cheers

Thanks for the report. Looks like I better not go bang table, else I get chairs thrown towards me at PML.

Bro,

My lousy 2 cents worth......... here goes....

Go down for a test drive, preferebly a higher end one......335 if you have to.... so that you can find an excuse that you want to buy another ride(they will have your record). Then go for a spirited drive up to 130. See if the sound is like your ride. If its much quieter, call your SE. Dont need to bang.... jux knock table can liao.

Got the idea

Hope your problem can be solved

Cheers

Re: Wind noise from my FL 320i (2 Months plus)

130 = small amount of wind noise = bearable
if go pml to knock table, how to quantify this problem ?
the SA has to drive at 130 and you sit next to him to agree / disagree the wind noise level ?
