Windscreen problem!

the windscreen (both front & rear) on my e90 has been getting more and more 'sticky' to water (rain) over the past year,
getting really irritatingly distracting and poor visibility on even light rain days.
my toyota is almost the same age, but treated with much less TLC, but the windscreen is still very 'waterproof'.
anyone knows wat can be done? another thing: where can i find those silicon replacement wipers? are they better?
tks!

Hydrophobic coat might help.

Retail has rainex or equivalent. Diy. Cheap.

But has seen a Honda whose rainex wears out leaving some patches and must recoat.

Kancoat Alfred told me that he also coats glass and wheel besides body. Anyone tried and tested, pls share.

Re: Windscreen problem!

Try soft 99 's glass refresh from autobacs. Good cleaner to remove all those years of build-up.

Re: Windscreen problem!

thanks for all the advise, guys! i'll try and, last resort, red_bean_bun's solution! change the whole thing! :D
just to check: permanon platinum, where can i get this in SG?

Re: Windscreen problem!

Try claybar. It should remove stuff stick on your windscreen.

Re: Windscreen problem!

Ya, claybar ur windscreen den follow up with newspaper wipe wipe

Re: Windscreen problem!

thanks david n mockngbird! claybar!!! interesting, are there special ones for glass? or can i use those for paintwork? i know there are claybar for light color, dark color, metallic, etc... can i use these? cos i've got a little left of a claybar for metallic paint, which i use for my car...

Re: Windscreen problem!

duke n pinky's reco for soft99 looks very promising too, thanks much! looking at this and many other forums, many swear by it! will keep this in mind, cos got some bros here recommend claybar, which i have one now, is suitable to be used, i might try it, altho i dread to think of doing it, cos i know (from doing my car paintwork) it's very tedious n tiring...

Just to check...
If windscreen only got chipped.. no hairline crack.. cannot claim from insurance and change?

How did it get chipped?

Normal circumstances can claim insurance but need to pay for the windscreen excess, also normally $100.

Re: Windscreen problem!

bro,u can go to bukit batok autobacs ,go to the counter to buy the 3M sand paper to clean your windscreen.it cost only 3.5 bucks.remember to wet your windscreen and use the 3m sand paper to gently clean your windscreen.definately will solve your problem.my car groomer taught me this to clean my windscreen.

You tried bro? Seems too harsh leh... Water beads up after that?
Just to update: the Soft99 indeed cleans! Very very clean, BUT, water still sticks (does not bead up when rain) ... Strange but true... Guys who've used Soft99, can share if your water sticks to your glass post-Soft99 cleaning?

Re: Windscreen problem!

Tested & highly recommended!
Clay bar with water, then treat it with rain-ex with clothlike for cleaning specs.
Superb result. Very clean & bead up water. Weewee

Re: Windscreen problem!

I do have the problem of wiper judder after using RainX. This is after prolonged usage (during each wash session).

Re: Windscreen problem!

just use something like rainx. juddering happens in all my bmws regardless i use rainex or not. safer than can't see the road right?

use those less than 10 bucks one. should be ok. my 16 year old merc no problem.

=) enjoy!
