WTB (thinking) E90 325i

hi all

I am thinking of upgrading from my E46 318i to the present E90 325i. Got a few Q's. My E46 is extremely reliable and touch wood, no problems so far. I was told it's because my unit is the later batches where all the glitches have been ironed out. Just wondering if the 2005 to 2008 E90s will be as reliable.

Also, the current 325s from PML do not have GPS but those in 2005 has. Should I buy an old unit or go for a new one? Is the GPS any good?

I also heard that a facelift is coming soon for the 3 series. Should I wait?

Maybe I am asking silly questions here but I welcome all your comments.

Thanks :)

Re: WTB (thinking) E90 325i

bro i am in the exactly same situation as you, driving a E46 last batch 2004. surprisingly reliable. yet i am so tempted to upgrade to a 6 cylinder ride.

i think pml is trying to get rid of their last stock of E90 before the FL ones comes in. any idea how much they are willing to sell any for the 325

Re: WTB (thinking) E90 325i

if u like the 6L highly tuned N52, forget about the GPS... probably thos GARMIN ones r betta...

but not sure if the present 325i includes iDrive??

i recall seeing price range of 160k and below... :)

regards...

Re: WTB (thinking) E90 325i

The current ex-stock for 325i does not comes with iDrive. But other things like cruise control, xenon light, back seat aircon, folding mirror, etc. are included. If you want the iDrive (highline version), have to go for indent basis.

Test drive the 325i e90 sedan recently, not a bad drive at all. Nice to be on a 6-potter. Next facelift schedule told my by SE is early next year. Price wise, I was offered $150,800 after discount. A good buy definitely !

Re: WTB (thinking) E90 325i

Yah, the N52 in the 325 is highly tuned, in fact in singapore/Europe we are very lucky to get this variation; 218BHP from a 2.5L block, 3stage intake manifold, agressive ECU tuning. keep it above 4k rpm.. this thing screams....for everyday traffic... hardly u need to go above 2K rpm... very good FC also... 9~10km/L

Re: WTB (thinking) E90 325i

Think at 150k for a 325 is a pretty good price. In Sept 07 PML offered me a 323 Professional for $151k with no iDrive! Actually some people prefer the cars without iDrive... just buy a Garmin GPS and its good to go! Plus the Garmin maps would be way more updated than the BMW ones...

Bro, was the price of $150,800 after discount from PML, or was it after deducting interest rebate lah, overtrade lah, and all those other gimmicks?

Nope, its direct discount. But as we all know, on paper, PML has to report the exact price of the car, so what they do is (like for my case when I sign for the 125i), the discount will be given in the form of payment for the loan, i.e. they help you pay the loan for some months that equals the discount amount.

Hi bro, you mentioned some prefer without iDrive. Err...why hah?

Re: WTB (thinking) E90 325i

if comparing to VW GTI or R32 with 325, whats the pro and cons? have not driven a VW before and its a hatch back. i'm also on the dislike side of the 1series, anyone can share?

Re: WTB (thinking) E90 325i

I wouldn't go for the R32 simply because of resale. Having hit hard on price is unavoidable for most car brands but I think BMW will command a premium. If not, a better market demand.

My last car was an Audi A4. I almost had to drive it for another 5 years cos resale value was down right worthless.

If I remember correctly, PML does not has any 323 left anymore, but there are quite a number of 325i on ex-stock. Its really a very good price for a 218bhps 6-potter bimmer.

Re: WTB (thinking) E90 325i

Yup! Esp since the 325 was about $170k not too long ago.. and now that it has no idrive, thats the best combi!!!

Re: WTB (thinking) E90 325i

PPSL have a jun 06 artic blue 325i selling for 117k, quite attractive. If I have the money, I would have bought it. :)

Re: WTB (thinking) E90 325i

I highly recommend the E90 325. I have driven a friend's one lots and it was the first BMW I ever drove. After that I was convinced - the blue and white roundel DOES make a difference.
Put it in sport mode and keep the revs high. Once you've gone 6 cylinder, you won't want to go back to 4. Have also driven another friends E46 318. It simply can't compare. It wasn't so much the engine (as I didn't have the chance to open up the E46 around town, whereas the 325's gone up to 180...), but the overall feel. Love the long sweepers on expressways and the confidence the 325 gives you to take fast corners. Steering is definitely meatier (which I like) than for the E46. I even led a third friend to get a 325 (E92), and at PML I drove it first with him at the back to show him what it could do (since I was pretty familiar with the E90).

And of course, discovering the wonder of the blue and white roundel led me to my current old lady. ;)
