Re: WTS: BMW 520i, 1991

No wonder you were so cocky offline. You had sold the car. Didn't mention it ya? Clever.

Pity the poor soul who bought this car. I went to take a look at it myself. The specimen was far from the advertised description by the original poster.

The paintwork was tired. Not revivable via a polish.
The interior was not "a few months old"...it was clearly used. In a bad condition for a 5 series.
The dashboard was damaged. Tough and expensive to find a good one in the right colour these days.
The rims may require refurbishment.
The ABS system was not working.
The gearbox and engine were ok but they are probably not overhauled as no receipts were available and the OP had misrepresented everything till that point.
The tyres were not fresh Contis....probably secondhands, would need replacement in 6 months ish.
Weird noises coming from the undercarraige - probably something loose.
Car has not been well kept, or even washed/polished for sale presentation - suggesting strongly that it had so many problems that the owner had grown frustrated. The ABS system being off line is a big signal....car slid during an E-brake, and this is from a chassis that once held the world record for stopping distance.
Rear speakerboard incorporating correct third brakelight for an executive 5 series is not there.
Rear axle bushings and front suspension - short of an inspection, doubtful if they had been replaced.
M steering wheel badly needs a rewrap.
Front kidney grill is damaged.
Looks like a dealer car.

I'm wagering that it requires $4k worth of work and 3 weeks worth of workshop time, assuming no serious gremlins show up during a proper mechanical inspection. Considering that it wasn't taking care off all the while, despite a thorough fixup it will continue to manifest problems for nearly 12 months after that. Not worth paying more than $20k, whatever the prevailing PQP

A real fixer upper for a car that has a $2k-$3k max body value with no loan potential. I trust the person who bought it is prepared for the investments involved. I've seen some revamped E34s.....they are sweet indeed. Good luck to the new owner and au revoir to the previous owner (who once claimed that a gearbox problem that saw the car not moving at 1000+rpm was 'wheelspin' lolol such a riot.

Not pissed, just clarifying that natural embellishment should not extend to misrepresentation. Anyway, Cheers mate and merry christmas to you and family too ! :)

Re: WTS: BMW 520i, 1991

Roberto,
I had issued complete receipts for all work done. I don't need to substantiate myself to a person like you. My car is as advertised.
Oh, and have a GOOD CHRISTMAS too !!!

Re: WTS: BMW 520i, 1991

That's interesting, your friend Mr Lim says he did not have them and could not get them from you, despite my asking him several times when i met him for the test drive.

Of course you needn't prove yourself to someone like myself. I'm a little wiser now (compared to several years ago) to the ways of car dealers....it would be a waste of your time. And as to christmas, it looks like you'll have a good one for sure.

Nevermind, maybe you need it. This car must have been a real pain to own. C'est la vie.
