X3 Experience

Re: X3 Experience

My X3 2.5 gets 16.1L/100km. Despite the mixed reviews, have loved the firm ride, precise handling, lovely inline 6 and immense practicality.

Current price at PML is about 167-169K and is 2006 production with sl mods - 18" wheels and new multifunction steering wheel. 2 shipments upcoming in Nov and Dec. Approx 60 units have been sold since launch.

Re: X3 Experience

wah... 16l/100? mine is only 13L/100km

but yes, the ride is good... u don't buy a BMW for nothing! :)

Re: X3 Experience

I think 16.1L/100km is abt rite. I will be pleasantly surprised if it can do 13L/100km.

Re: X3 Experience

still seems a bit high. i know people in XC90s get less than that. and thats a heavy ass car.

Re: X3 Experience

Am probably a little heavy with the right foot, but the inline 6 is incredibly fun to flog! :whipper: Dynamically, doesn't drive as well as a 3 series but it's not off by much. In fact, sometimes you forget you're in an SUV. Really combines the utility of an SUV with the drive feel of a BMW.

Re: X3 Experience

yah I guess your right foot is heavy. :)
I always get nagged by my wife if I drive right-footed. whats showing on my OBC is now 13.1L/100Km... I guess those long drives along PIE to work help to lower the FC.

Re: X3 Experience

Greetings to all... just found this forum, so this is my first post (other than the classified;-)

I've been driving my X3 for about 5 months now, and I personally don't take the OBC too seriously on the xxL/xxxKm as I found it to be less than practical (not saying that it's inaccurate)

For those who are interested to know about the fuel efficiency on the X3:

In my case, I've consistenly spent about S$110-120 for a full tank V-Power:
- Fuel tank capacity is 67 liter, so roughly 60 liters for each re-fill
- Between each re-fill, I can do about 410-450Km (depending on how aggressive I drive).

So take the average of 60L / 430km, that will make it 13.9L/100Km, for my day to day use. Given the enjoyment I get when driving the car, I'm very happy these numbers.

Points to note:
- I confess I drive actively / aggressively half of the time
- I confess I press hard on the accelarator without thinking about the cost of the fuel (I've given too much thought on the cost of the car in Singapore already!)
- The above is a good mix of city / express way traffic
- I had a Harrier 2.4 before, and the fuel efficiency is about the same (cost of fuel was slightly low then).

Lastly, I ignore the OBC totally on any Test / Show room cars... because most people test drive cars as hard as they can... which makes what the OBC shows are way off from reality.

Re: X3 Experience

tat is very informative and very assuring. i need such info to make a decision as to whether should i buy a x3.

i am surprised that u said the fuel consumption is more or less the same as harrier, because my friends claim theirs is clocking arnd 11.3L/100km

i am still deciding should i get a X3, rx300 or the new 2.4L Rav 4 coming in. Any advice?

Anymore info on the X3 will be very much appreciated.

cheers!

Is your friend referring to the reading from the OBC on the Harrier? Again, I never read from the OBC. And I press quite hard on the pedals :yummie: , so I might even have pushed the Harrier even harder as it is far less responsive.

RX300's interior feel a lot more luxuary and comfortable, but that's about it. I like to drive a car and not just sit in the car, so performance and handling is on top of my list and the X3 is way more superior in these aspects. Engine, xDrive, longer wheel base and lower-center gravity...etc.

GO TEST DRIVE THE X3 and RX300 to feel and see it for yourself - They are completely two different car for different people.

Sorry I don't know much about new Rav 4.

Hope this helps.

Re: X3 Experience

My wife's Harrier is actually very frugal on fuel - drinks less than my CRV. I have a heavy right foot as well! I am from the old school - so I measure FC in Km/Ltr. We took the Harrier and the CRV up to KL a few months ago and to our surprise the Harrier was more fuel efficient - even tho it has a larger engine than the CRV. We will driving at moderate speed most of the journey - the CRV returned about 10 km/ltr whereas the Harrier was doing about 11 km/ltr. In Spore driving conditions, I reckok the CRV would average less than 8 km/ltr where as the Harrier would be close to 9 km/ltr. These are my best estimates - no detailed calculations, etc.

Even though I have not tested the X3, there's no question in my mind that it is more fun to drive than the Harrier (comfortable with suspension that is very soft - tendency to roll on corners!). I was actually seriously considering of trading in the Harrier for a used X3 (demo unit) but was totally dejected when I took a close look at the interior - particularly at the back passenger cabin. How could BMW put a "hump" on the floor of the back row seats? This means the X3 is a 4 seater, and makes the back passenger cabin cramped and uncomfortable. So the X3 is off my list, and I will wait for the launch of the new generation RAV4 as a replacement for my wife's Harrier.

Re: X3 Experience

I respect your decision... but for me, hump or no hump, it is a BMW. and it is that drive and image you are after... my 2 cents.
