I was comparing the Z4 3.0 and the SLK350. Its really a tough choice. I prefer the Z4 design (top down), but the SLK hardtop and specs. Overall, I am inclined towards the SLK though.

I would choose SLK350 over Z4 3.0 for:

1) Power
2) Newer chassis than Z4
3) Better look (To me)
4) 7G gearbox

My friend who drives a M3 recently tested the SLK350 and 258bhp E90 330i. He comments are it's comparable to M3 in term of mid range power and it's definitely faster than E90 330i.

I am not sure about the Z4, but the build quality of the SLK is only somewhat acceptable...door handles coming loose etc
