Re: Airshow 2008 520i

Not even talking about the new 170bhp DI engine here....

Geez! And the price??? Aiyo...lagi don't bother....

I thought 520i is 2.2L engine block? The price is too expensive.. at that price, just buy the new 523i with fridge door and whisker ligths.

Bro,

What do you mean by fridge door?

Re: Airshow 2008 520i

I believe it's the feature when you don't close your doors tight enough, the doors will automatically be closed ala 'sucked in' therefore behaving like your fridge door.

Re: Airshow 2008 520i

Oh I see. Thanks for explaining.

That feature is on the latest LCIs. Mine doesn't have it. :(

I agree, was quite surprised when i first heard that they've put the same 320iA engine into the 5-series. When i opened the bonnet can see lots of empty space! :)

Re: Airshow 2008 520i

I got my 523i at the ASEAN summit deal. Aftre driving it for a month & clocking >1000 km, still feel the pickup is a bit sluggish despite the 190 bhp. So I can imagine how the 520i at 156 bhp will behave. Suspect PML is trying to help the BMW office clear their old (under-powered) stock sof 320 & 520 engines. At 160K, price is not worth. Just my 5 cents worth of opinion.

Frankly, only when 520i goes down $150k and 320i to $120k will any prospective buyers consider airshow cars.

Re: Airshow 2008 520i

Money asides, how to consider the 520i with only 156hp? When the E60 520i first came out with 2.2l engine (170hp??), peoples already complained under power. If I am not wrong, E200 has better power than this. for 320i not too bad.

Re: Airshow 2008 520i

I had a chance of looking at the car spec sheet today at PML Alexandra.

2 Litre/4 Cylinder
156bhp + 200nm torque

The interior looks quite bare and different from the normal 520i around the central console area. The plastic trimming looks vastly different from the usual wood grain as well.

Re: Airshow 2008 520i

On should get a 6-cylinder engine bcos less strain on the engine & more power. Agree that the right price for 520 should be $150K. For $160K, better to top up $10K for proper 523 & enjoy better ride for the next 5 yrs at least. I am glad I got my 523i at the last ASEAN Summit. Comparatively a better buy bcos same specs as normal one except 16" rims & non-runflat tyres.

Re: Airshow 2008 520i

Met up with my SE today 'cos one of my friends is thinking of getting the Airshow 320i. It's going at $125,800 while the non-Airshow ones are going at $135,800. Apparently the only difference is that the Airshow model comes with clear tail lights, as all the new 320i's don't have xenons either.

Anyway, my SE said that PML will continue to bring in the 520i even after the Airshow, and it will be the new E60 base model. The 520i will sell for $168K (not sure if this is list or nett price) and the 523i is likely to revert to list price at $181,800 with probably only $1-2K discount at the most.

FYI, in case anyone here is considering getting the 523i. It's currently going for about $172K while the model with the soft-closing doors is $176K.

Re: Airshow 2008 520i

Bro,

I'm no expert, but I really doubt that the price of the 523i will drop any more now that PML has brought back the 520i. They need to price the 523i quite a bit higher than the 520i, otherwise everyone will go for the former.

Cheers.

Re: Airshow 2008 520i

Yes i agree with sjlim that 523i unlikely to go down , now that 520i is here. In fact, the reason why 523i is currently $172K is bcos of overtrade for old car. The list price is $181,800. If the 520i is going for $168K, then there must be a significant price differential for the 523i as the engine capacity is much higher. I would stick to 523i even if you want to be seen in a 5 series BMW. You will want to enjoy the ride & the power. I draw the analogy to the Camry 2.0 vs 2.4. Regretted buying the 2.0L version bcos grossly under-powered & it was a matter of only a few thousand $ dif. Anyway, no longer looking back at Jap car. There is a world of difference with the BMW.

Re: Airshow 2008 520i

Hi SJlim,

Are you sure the list price is at S$181,800? I thought it was S$183,800?

Re: Airshow 2008 520i

Bro,

List price is $183,800, but I believe there's a standard discount of $2K.

Re: Airshow 2008 520i

$181,800 if you select existing stock. $183,800 if you order from factory, which gives you choice of what color interior & trimming. Hence the $2K difference.

Re: Airshow 2008 520i

Ah. Thanks for clarifying.

But I guess most people will get the $2K discount? PML seems to have pretty aggressive sales targets, so they always seem to have ready stock in the more popular interior trims etc.

Cheers.

Re: Airshow 2008 520i

520iA (4 cylinder / 156 bhp) is surely under powered. ...but still BM leh. slap a 530 or 525 behind or ///W (seen on some jokers) can liao! BO LEH!
