All about Z4 (E89/ E86/ E85) thread

Re: All about Z4 (E89/ E86/ E85) thread

Bottomline: I went a complete cycle (aka the professional way and most complex way) before discovering the most fundamental solution. Was not impressed with Shop A and B way of working and their so-called ‘I know it all’ manner. Shop A is worse, made one big big assumption w/o wantng to test drive it, and offer the straightforward and $$$ remedy. I just refused to believe that tranny software reset is not in their ‘toolkit’. Well, knowing the basics sometimes can save some $$$. Just to share...

Well said. These days I google for help. The whole wide world enthusiasts advice and experience at yr finger tips.

From the link:
Throttle Body Adaptation reset. Resetting the Adaptive Driver Memory for the transmission.
Works with any car that has Driver Adaptive Electronic Controlled Transmission.

1. Get in your car, it doesn't matter if you close the door or not.
2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position, the position just before the starter turns over. BMW: press start button – foot off brake - all idiot lights on.
3. Press the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the "on" position. BMW: All idiot lights on.
4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the "off position". BMW: foot off brake press start button - all idiot lights now off (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
5. Wait a full 2 minutes for a full electronic alignment. Don't remove the key.
6. Start engine, drive the car, notice the difference.

Just a quick poll from all our fellow Z4 owners. Anyone thinking, considering or done ditching your ride for the new SLK? I was told that must take queue number for orders..true?

Re: All about Z4 (E89/ E86/ E85) thread

Any idea if the sDrive28i coming to singapore? Will they phase out the 6 cyc 23i in favour for their new N20 on the 28i???

Some delicious numbers!

Engine: 2.0L I4
Power: 240 HP / 260 LB-FT
Transmission: 6-Speed Manual
0-60 Time: 5.5 Seconds!!!! (that's nearly 2seconds off the 23i's 0-60 time!!) Drivetrain: Rear-Wheel Drive
Curb Weight: 3,252 LBS
Seating: 2
MPG: NA

EDIT: The 5.5sec most likely belongs to the manual tranny so... yeah :(. Abit slower for the A/T i believe

Re: All about Z4 (E89/ E86/ E85) thread

wah...this thread has slowed down quite a bit. i scroll back & saw that my car was so shiny! now only few months after the work is done, lost shine already.

still 3 Z4s at my mcp only. waiting on the 4th to come.

Bros, not sure if anyone of you experience problems with transmission before. On my E85, when i accelerate on normal mode, somehow the accelerator does not feel very responsive when it moves off from start. Also facing problem accelerating when at 2k rpm. when i step harder, the rpm doesnt really react/engine doesnt really respond. But when I step harder...it jump from 2k rpm+ to 3k+. sudden jump. anyone experience this problem?

Also, am suffering from incomplete combustion. Now doing 6km/litre.

Any advice?

Re: All about Z4 (E89/ E86/ E85) thread

Yea...ac

I was just about to do that. Still going to send it for checks.

But got reminded by Wanaka about the importance of having some knowledge.

Otherwise might be led around in circles :(

Heavy on the pockets too

How to tell if you have incomplete combustion? My FC is about 7.8km/l.

Also facing some problems here. Some intermittent vibrations and thumping sound when idling. Going to get it checked out tom. Hope nothing serious... hope the same for your ride!

Re: All about Z4 (E89/ E86/ E85) thread

i getting 9.5km/l on my z4 2.5i.

Running 18" rims 225/40/r18 all rounded. Does the rims affect the consumption?
