All about Z4 (E89/ E86/ E85) thread

Re: All about Z4 (E89/ E86/ E85) thread

Mine is 23i and yes it's the "kerng" sound that is especially audible in Sport mode. It happens whenever I step on the accelerator or lift off. The technical guys at PML advised that it's due to change in load on the propeller shaft and has ordered a replacement shaft to address the issue. However, he said that the sound may return after some time as it's an inherent issue with the E89. Will be sending my car in when it arrives and keeping my fingers crossed.

Then there is also the incessant creaking sound from roof, the A pillar and top of the windscreen when I drive over uneven roads or humps or potholes. The PML guys has already fixed the roof one and I'm gonna ask them to do something about the A pillar and windscreen creaking.

Not sure if it is more apparent in 23i. Gearbox is different from the 35i DCT 7-speed gearbox I supposed (unless the new 23i has upgraded that too).

As for roof creaks...this is not abnormal. Maybe more apparent in hardtop. Our local weather does not help much too with humid and heat factors causing more contraction and expansion. If you are particular, go get a roof alignment fix. It will help to make the cabin quieter. Of course you can drive topless more often so you don't have to deal with it so much. I added a good set of speakers and amp and I crank that up too :)

Most importantly, do enjoy the ride.

Nope not having he DCT only conventional 6-speed auto. Funny thig is the sound doesn't surface in the Normal mode but I can't bring myself to drive in that mode as I'll fall asleep with the languid response. Sport is the minimum default for me. Will see how the PML guys try to fix the "kerng" sound in a couple of weeks.

Yup driving topless is definitely one of my self administered remedy whenever weather permits, else I'll go bonkers!!

Thanks for sharing!

Re: All about Z4 (E89/ E86/ E85) thread

Hi everyone!

I recently installed the Eisenmann twin exhausts for the 23i and I would like to say it's pretty god damn awesome as far as exhausts go for this car.

As I came from the Remus exhaust, I must say this exhaust blows the Remus one out of the water. Clearly and completely. I'd like to do a short and sweet review of this exhaust, if I may. ;)

Firstly, the Remus I was on was drone-y as hell. It was like sitting in the middle of a bee hive, however, I wouldn't say the Eisenmann is completely drone-less, but a lot more bearable. The character of the sound has also improved, in my opinion. The Remus had a somewhat hollow-yet-loud sound but the Eisenmann's note has a more grunt yet the volume is loud, but not too obnoxiously loud.

How about the power you say... At first I was pretty skeptical about power gains and pretty worried about the possible power loss as well. But as soon as I took it out for a butt-dyno run, it totally caught me by surprise as there was this additional pull coming at around 2k RPM - 3.5k RPM. This has surely sealed the deal for this exhaust, there's no going back.

The only draw back I noticed is that the exhaust overrun has diminished over the Remus. I sure do miss the popping sound.

I'd recommend the Eisenmann Twin for any E89-ers who wish to upgrade their exhaust for that potential sound and power gain! And who is also more or less not really keen to modify their bumpers for quads :p.

Buy direct from US lor. Although I think Boss or BVO used to bring it in. Can check those workshops.

I'm using Reinhold Engineering's roof control module which I shipped in from Europe and had a local workshop install.

Sorry, my bad. I doublechecked and what I did buy was Gaptech's module instead. It works really well (so convenient to close the roof while walking away from the car) but it's only for E85 instead.

SmartTop is I think quite widely used and should be a good choice for your E89.
