Any recommendation on brake pads brand?

Hi,

My 318i E46 brake pad warning lights have lite up and I am considering whether to use back original brake pads and fix at pml or to have after-market pads, especially those that do not create as much brake dust, fix by non-pml workshop.

Any field reports or recommendation on which after-market brake pad to go for?
please advise estimated cost too if possible.

thanks

i'm not too particular abt my brake pads, mine's an old ride e36. my workshop changed it for 30 bucks each for both sides, total cost 60 bucks. as for what brand, i have absolutely no idea...keke.

Go down to BVO. Think they have either Axis Ultimate or Bendix Ultimate aftermarket brake pads. Much lesser brake dust and still works equally as good.

Re: Any recommendation on brake pads brand?

You can also try Ferodo Premier. I was recommended the Ferodo Premier over the Bendix Ultimates (Bendix is marketed as Axxis in some other ctys such as the US).

I have been on the Ferodos for 2 weeks now. Very grippy. Hardly any brake dust. Very happy with them.

Hi SL2 hi T6,

Thanks for your inputs.

I asked for a quote from PML and they quote me $250 for changing the front pads. So had my front brake pad changed at BVO and Ah Wee recommended Bendix Ultimates. I don't think they carry Ferodo Premier.
Anyhow, it costed me $194 for the front pads (including sensor & labour).

T6, which workshop did you get the Ferodo? I shall keep in mind in case of next change. Prices comparable to Bendix?

cheers!

Re: Any recommendation on brake pads brand?

He got it from the Two Towers that also sells Gandalf Calipers

Re: Any recommendation on brake pads brand?

i am using the ultimates too...they r a lot better...but there is some screeching....also these r performance brakepads..they will bite ur rotors harder..resulting in faster wear.
if u r not aggressive or u dun track...then go for the axxiss deluxe. they r almost dust free!!

Re: Any recommendation on brake pads brand?

That screeching noise is apparent in axxis ultimates after track sessions and the noise will go away...those guys on BBKs alos experience the same thing...

It's not a track pads to begin with but again, it has good ceramic/kevlar compounds and sustain quite high temp

I still love those pads anyway...

Re: Any recommendation on brake pads brand?

yes jack..even porsches use them..so they must be pretty good in something.

Re: Any recommendation on brake pads brand?

yea and quite cheap too for its grade...

I got them from a local supplier but the pads installation was done by BVO.

OT abit.. Jack, after track 2 weeks ago, my fronts no noise but my rears got.. till today still got.. how long does it normally take before it goes away?

Re: Any recommendation on brake pads brand?

Changed my rear set at BVO

bandix ultimate for 140. ......... but cant remember how much i paid for rotors and brake fluid though

Re: Any recommendation on brake pads brand?

BTW...Dreamdriver.... mine had no sound/noise for the new pads :) am i missing something here??? :)

Re: Any recommendation on brake pads brand?

Just installed Bendix Ultimates on my rear tyres and there's still a noise too from the rear. Didn't have the noise when I installed them on the fronts. Hope the noise doesnt stay too long....

Maybe cos I tracked my car at Sepang and you didn't? :)

Re: Any recommendation on brake pads brand?

I am also getting some screeching from my Ferodo Premiers but I think only for the front. But my car quite well insulated from noise so bo chap lah, grippy and not many many brake dust can liao. Can't have everything..... but I do wonder since Axxis/Bendix Ultimates still have some squealing, whether the Axxis/Bendix Deluxe will be better since it is meant for normal street use with lower temp.

Wot rear pads are u using?

In my stock calipers last time, the noises went away (completely...front n back) after 2-3wks or so. Was using Axxis Ultimate at the time.

For Axxis Ultimate pads ( and probably the Bendix Ultimate pads)....I am not sure if u guys ever notice how the pads are designed...

The edges of the pads are slanted outwards and hence after u hv been running on them for awhile, the center pads will have worn out,...sort of triggering the 2nd lvl of friction area (which is the slanted part)....
Once all levelled, then the noise should be gone...

At least that's wot I experienced. I carried on using it till today ( the calipers n brake pads are on my other ride) and the braking is quiet.

Ok this is the answer I need. It's been 3+ weeks since track day. I'll monitor for another week, if still not gone I think time to send in for check liow.

Thanks mate!

Re: Any recommendation on brake pads brand?

Brake squeal can go away if u do a few hard braking but pls check that ur rear is clear :)

Anyone used Axxis ULT pads or ceramic pads before ? I order from Zeckhausen and got Ultimate for the front and ULT for the rear. I read carefully and these rear pads are ceramic ! sounds power hurhurhur...
