Re: Any X5 owners here?

Hi Javaben,
well recently i have gotten a second-hand X5 as well. What i know ican share is that the air-matic suspension u have to pay more attention to. get a thorough check. dont save the money for inspection. dont even bother going to STA, go to PML ask them to schdule u for a thorough check and see if anything is amiss. check if it a PML car or PI. hope this helps, good luck

Hi bmwx5,
May you share what to look out for on the air-matic suspension? How does one tells its faulty besides sending to PML or mechanic? Can you share how the ride suppose to be? I felt X5 ride is quite "bouncy" which kinda uncomfortable seeing how much one pay for it.

Anyone has the same or different experience?

Thanks

Re: Any X5 owners here?

Dear X5 Owners, have anyone out there tried a non ran-flat tyre for X5? I am thinking of softening the ride a little. I know that the manual recommends specifically the ran flat model but I have read in US BMW X5 forum that users have made the change and happy with it. The caveat I guess is that car usage has to be of a "normal ride" i.e. no hard driving, off-road . In my case I don't think I will ever go off-road!. Have not had the chance yet to check with PML. Thought I get some input from anyone out there who has had some experiences with this change. Appreciate it. p.s. on the side, and given the current debate on SG's overall infrastructure related issues (both capacity and maintenance front), I cannot help but have noticed rather markedly since I got the X5 some few months back (being driving only large sedan cars all along which are generally more compliant) that many of SG roads are not adequately maintained. I guess there have many underground construction works (e.g. in downtown financial sector) but the patched-up work leave much to be desired. Overseas colleagues who visited on a regular basis has noted the same observation to me. Ironically this sort of strike me only when I am using a stiffer suspension car vs a softer ones. Any comments?

Re: Any X5 owners here?

hi, am driving a E70. juz recently changed my back tyres from runflat to normal tyres. Smooth and more comfy ride as compared to the previous. my size- Front 275/40R20 Rear-315/35R20.
Hope this helps.

Cheers

Re: Any X5 owners here?

Hi,

We have the same tire sizes. Which tires did you changed to? I'm still on the Bridgestone RFT but am getting tired of the harsh stiff ride.

Re: Any X5 owners here?

Hi, I have friend interested in getting the latest X5 35i, it should be the N55 engine, with 8-speed transmission.

Any advice or any technical issues or common ride issues to consider before buying?

Tks so much for your feedback. Kind regards,

Re my earlier comment and input re changing to a "normal tire vs ranflat version "on my X5. Did not have time to update earlier. But I have finally decided to give it a try and make the change some 3 weeks back with same original size (255/55/18 ). As I was not so sure how this will work out (despite the fact that from a little research, most X5 drivers that have made the change came out rather positive from a ride comfort perspective), I decided on a cheaper make (Brigestones) for a start in case I have to revert to RF and or another make . Good news is that ... I have should have make the change much earlier!. It is certainly much softer ride now with is much complaint on rougher surfaces as well. Noticed as well that on SG's mainly "freeway ride " and some much harder surfaces , the car somewhat don't feel "tramlining". One does loose some feel on the steering (a touch lighter) from the softer and lighter normal tire vs RF. I somewhat regret now for not going for what I read could be a higher quality tire (normal) of other brands. The ride could even be better? Thought I share my experience. TKs
