Appeal To The Traffic Police

Can someone also tell them that if they empathise so much on saving lives, maybe they can set up a procedure that whenever they stop a vehicle, their police vehicle should be at the rear so that the bright oscillation light can serve as a hazard warning to the oncoming traffic on our narrow road shoulder.....

Kenntona,

Indeed..it's great to see the SPF finally agreeing to the petition. Power to the people!

Alan,
Since you want to put it like that...might as well, all TP vehicles drive with that big yellow crash bumper thing attached to their boot. :screwedu:

BUT - do you think they will waive my summon due in 30 March?

I just paid mine !!! :furious: :shoot:
What the TP says and what they do will be different. Nothing will change, you will still be driving on a nice road and suddenly a TP officer will jump out from nowwhere and book you for speeding..

You can't beat the system, you can only beat yourself..do the right thing..buy a slow car..like me..Getz..swee swee..

just read through the list... very ambiguous leh... they just put PIE, CTE etc....

is this a permanent list or will it be revised from time to time? i noticed AYE's not on it....

... and let's not forget there is a new Char Bor TP Boss who has to prove her worth at her new position... ;)

I think the previous guy kena screwed for creating all these bad publicity in the past few months. Hence, they brought in this new lady to soften the issue.

Think that moron was too eager to justify for his coming pay increment and promotion.

I think the list of places will be updated from time to time.
I agree that it's so ambigious (perhaps intentionally) that I wouldn't find it a useful guide.

Of course actual warnings/signs along these roads would be most helpful. Whether they will appear remains to be seen...

TP giving way...I still have my doubts.

Anyway...my point of the laser cam is....how do TP define speeding. The fact that their state of the art cam can shoot 3 frames per sec makes no sense. If the motorist is just overtaking the car and his speed goes up for a few seconds....do you take that as speeding as well ??? Or are they out to nab speedster who drives at a above speed limit without regards ??

I think most of the people booked belong to the former. Why dun they release the stats on how many pple were booked for what. What is the point of telling us that the Bukit Timah Rd FTD is set by a Toyota Altis doing 124kmh....is that the general speed that they clock most pple doing or its just another one in thousand ?

What I suggest is that they work like US H'way patrol do...one spotter will spot the suspected speedster...inform of the mobile cam which car to shoot....and then whack the bugger. Not point their laser at a car...track it for 1 sec and determine that motorist is speeding.

IMHO....the article is talking cock....TP job is to save life ?? Then what is the doctor's job...reading newspaper ?? What a joke....treating the public like children....the PR Dept should be shot for allowing such a comment.

Let me just state my view.

If they can prevent 50 less deaths (and they do more than that) each year because of this "method". You can't argue that they are indeed saving lives.

Likewise, they can still achieve the same goal without using such a method... they haven't found the sweet spot which can please everyone. And they never will.

Anyway, I dont think you need to increase your speed by 50km/hr to overtake, but believe me... that's a poor excuse to use when we're overtaking everyone all the time on that road. :laughlik:

But I find the piece of statistics quoted, whereby traffic deaths (or was it serious accidents?) was down from 60-smtg in '03 to 50-smtg in '04, and they attribute it to the deployment of the cams, damn freakin' dodgy.

1) What was the figures for the prevailing past few years?

2) Surely the drop could have due to normal statistical sampling?

WTF. Just read the cam location list... might as well launch a death-star in the sky as the all-knowing benign eye-in-the-sky to SAVE LIVES. :naughty:

The stats only tell one side of the story.

What about the number of accidents that are non-speed related??

The bloody CTE gets massive jams daily because some idiot switches lanes carelessly in bumper to bumper traffic. Average speed: 50kmh. So what does the TP have to say?

Or the taxi moron who e-brakes to pick up passegers... the idiot who beats a right green arrow.. the list is enless. Point is: we dont save lives just by reducing "speeding". It is public education that is important.

Save lives? The drop from 60 something to 50 something deaths is of insignificance.

C'mon. who they trying to kid...

Like Alan said.. there was this TP motorcylist who was hiding along the road shoulder near the SLE exit.... totally blocked by huge lorries and trucks.. what was he thinking man? So dangerous!

Anyway... TP had to come public as the public outcry was getting way too hot... so if got nothing to say, still got to say something.

Milking it

Hi guys... whatever it is.. the TP is milking their freebie for as many brownie points as possible...

Note that their site today states 50 roads/locations and the article below states 45...

Speed Trap Areas
As part of the Traffic Police's effort to be more open and visible on the roads, they have revealed for the first time where their officers are deployed with laser speed cameras on their website. They said the site will be updated when there are changes in the locations being monitored.

The 45 areas to watch out for now are: Adam Road, Alexandra Road, Ang Mo Kio Avenues 1 and 5, Bukit Batok Road, Changi Coast Road, Central Expressway (CTE), East Coast Expressway (ECP), Hougang Avenues 2 and 3, International Road, Boon Lay Way, Jalan Boon Lay, Jurong Town Hall Road, Kallang Road, Keppel Way and Kim Seng Road.

Also Lentor Avenue, Mandai Road, Marine Parade Road, Orchard Boulevard, Pasir Ris Drive 3, Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), Scotts Road, Sembawang Drive and Sembawang Road, Sengkang East Road, Seletar Expressway (SLE) and Stevens Road.

Plus Tampines Avenues 1 and 10, Tanah Merah Coast Road, Tanjong Rhu Road, Telok Blangah Road, Tampines Expressway (TPE), Tuas West Road, Upper Thomson Road, West Coast Highway, Woodlands Avenue 12 and Woodlands Road, Yio Chu Kang Road, Yishun Avenues 1, 4 and 6, and Yuan Ching Road.

Well...if its 50 lives...then hell yes. i would say that the anti speed execise has indeed save lifes. But with all its operations....less than 20 ??

While we all agree that speeding accident are usually bad....the more important thing to recongise is that its the nut holding the steering wheel that causes the accident. You tell me that 50kmh driver cannot be a reckless driver ?

Let me give you an example.

You travel from Jurong to Changi...all along PIE, you maintain your speed at a average 88kmh. Not speeding rite. Ok...as you come near to Toa Payoh that famous temple...you come across a slower vehicle, you acclerate to over take the car/van/truck etc at 101kmh swiftly and then switch back to your middle lane and cruise at 80-90kmh again.

2 weeks later...you get a letter from TP stating that you were speeding at PIE at 101kmh. Fine $150 and 6 points. Is this fair ??

What I spoke to the TP is that...one should maintain at speed limit to overtake...say if the car is doing 80kmh...you know how long will it take to overtake at 90kmh ? You would be holding up traffic on the overtaking lane and not to mention....damn inconsiderate driving if you ask me. But this is what the officer said to me. So its ok to hog the road but not to speed ??

Beside a slower vehicle...there are other times that we choose to overtake a vehicle because the driver of the other car might be driving very inconsistantly swaying from its path or braking for no reasons ever once in a while. Do we stay behind and wait for an accident to happen to just over take smartly to avoid this motorist ?

There are many factors and option that one can choose....the road is a very dynamic situation....how does one use something static to moderate a dynamic situation ? Crazy..... :screwedu:

Oh BTW...those speeding way above limit....deserve to get booked. That I agree...like that Altis who was clock 124kmh....overtaking do not need such high speed...I am talking about 20kmh odd or so access only.

Let me help them summerise what they are saying....

"Island Wide" FULLSTOP.

Its not where they are...I do not support speeding...but it would help if they change their way of summoning motorist...track the car for a pedetermine distance before saying that motorist is speeding...not track 1 sec and then whack.

maybe the sudden surge in enforcement got to do with new TP boss? seem to recall a reading a news article abt a new appt recently.

For all we know, the lower fatality rate (ie. diff of 10+) may be due to newer cars with better safety features instead of TP's action.

However, TP had convienently ignored other factors like this and claimed FULL CREDIT... All these secret policing and only reduce 10+ cases.... Not a lot to thump chest over huh? How come never mention the hundreds of thousand dollars extra fine collected?

P.S. For traffic accident investigations, I guess the "most logical" explanation will be "SPEEDING" instead of "dangerous driving", "road hogging", "failure to keep to lane", "irresponsible pedestrains" etc.....

Yeah, and SHE may be trying to boost TP P/L stats...maybe putting in for a few new BMWs to replace the ageing fleet?
What were they thinking putting her to head the TP? :furious:

i recall commenting to my fren that the shit will be hitting the wall soon, as soon as i saw that report.... maybe i'm too harsh but i just got that feeling at that time.
