Hi lim_ck, is your car 2009 318i like mine?
from your reply, it seems like you have done research on how to DIY this problem.
how do you know if there is a USB module? mine has USB and Aux in options, inside the centre console, does that mean I have it?

Appreciate if you can direct me to any shop you have used or any reference/manual that you used.
I just bought mine last week and i feel that this feature is really important to me.

Thanks in advance.

yes. mine is a MY2009 car.

the USB in centre console means you have the bluetooth MULF2 module already. to confirm, pull up the cover inside the boot and you should see a module installed inside there. Other parts needed are stated in the post above.
more information from the sites below.

if your car also came with the BMW Garmin GPS, then this must be coded out of the car as well in order for the bluetooth phone to work.
Basically when coding the car to add in the VO for the bluetooth ($644), the navigation portable option (+NAVP) must be removed from the car in order for the bluetooth to work. this will mean your GPS will no longer do routing announcements through the radio. you'll also need to tape up the first 5 pins of the Garmin GPS connector if you still want to plug in the GPS for charging else the routing announcements will also not come out from the GPS unit itself. However, if you are using iPhone, the Google Maps app is able to do routing announcements via bluetooth through the radio as well.

u can consider a simple and clean alternative:
belkin-bluetooth-hands-free-kit.jpg

CarAudio Connect AUX with Bluetooth® | BT Music Receiver | Audio | Entertainment | Products | Belkin USA Site
don't take my word; google for the reviews in this and other forum before you decide.

Re: Bluetooth for PFL E90 320i

cool device! thanks for the introduction.
However it does not resolve if I am listening to CD or FM Station with the car unit.
I bought a bluetooth device from DOSS in china. It's a portable bluetooth speaker. It's pretty small but with powerful sound. Only downside is that I have to turn it on whenever I get into the car and switch it off when I get off.

Thanks richlee7 for the option.
I guess its a good interim solution while i readup for retrofit. Hehe

Nothing beats the OEM feel where all the steering buttons are working.

By thw way, is the lighter always on even if you take out the key just like the usb input?

Re: Bluetooth for PFL E90 320i

I am using this. essentially it bluetooh enables the aux-in. good if you use one device (in my case, iPhone) for music, calls, navigation apps.

music will soften whenever navigation directions are given and music will mute when calls come in.

that's true about having all the buttons working :)

you're right. lighter socket is always on, but i believe there's auto cut-off in cases where batt drops below safety level, to enable car to start. this is controlled by the body ecu.

as you may notice, the only catch is that you'll hv to switch AUX input when calls come in, if you want the sound to come from the car speakers. not a difficult thing for me, since the source button is already on the steering wheel. if u're modding for the oe, do share your mod! i'd luv to learn also :)

Maybe you can consider getting this after market Digital Touch Screen AVI/DVD/MP3/VCD/CD Player Special for BMW 3 Series E90/E91/E92/E93 Radio (AM/FM) Tuner Built-In USB Port /SD Slot Support Bluetooth Function Support iPod/iPhone4 Input Built-In GPS Navigation.

I got it install for about 1.2K in malaysia, is a plug and play type no cutting of original wiring needed.

My iphone auto connect to the unit once i start the car and i can use the "phone button" on the steering to pick up my call.

If you want you can install a reverse camera too...

lighter socket only on when engine is running.

OEM bluetooth hardware install is very easy to do. it's the coding part which is a PITA. took me a few weeks to get it working properly with lots of trial and errors.

Thanks ! Seems there's a local distributor at lorong Bakar batu

Hi, can you PM the local distributor for this head unit. It is exactly what I'm looking for as my '06 E90 is "handicapped" without any USB input and BT.

Thanks,
Luke

Bro, thanks for the info! Able to meet up and take a look at your player.
Am thinking of getting one unit as I travel to China often.

If google Alibaba & eBay, there are many OEM DVD players out there, mostly made in china...Currently have a unit installed in my E90, would say it looks a lot better than stock headunit, only issue is the aircon control is shifted down which will protrude out...
