BMW’s Newest 3 Series Launched in Singapore

Re: BMW’s Newest 3 Series Launched in Singapore

i do like the F30 iDrive which is closer to the driver makes viewing much better and clearer.
but, as you mentioned without the 'hood', it's exposed to sunlight :(

It feels much bigger than the old 3? no? or issit my imagination. It only seems slightly smaller than new 5 at the back. On the front passenger seat, the new 3 is more comfortable/spacious that 5.

only bone to pick about the car....... the tag for a 3. If not it should be perfect for a vehicle in its class

The seat seems more comfortable... in the showroom. It's wider, yes, but soft. My E90 seats are firmer. I think that makes a difference when driving and I cannot really say anything now because I haven't driven long enough in the car to tell the comfort of the seats.

I personally think Volvo seats are one of the best for long distance cruising! BMW seats have always been made a little narrower and sportier.

The screens now have a new anti reflection coating which is why they removed the "hood" . So far from my experiences, don't encounter any visibility issues without the "hood".

u tried the seats at the back? Its very spacious, but the seats seems to be very hard.... Any exisiting BMW owners can tell the difference?

Yeap, I went to the front, set my usual driving position, then went to the back. It was abit more spacious - TRUE. but not much more spacious to the extent I had a reason to say, yay let's buy a new F30 because I need more space. for $230k, I think 520i + ECU remap sounds like a better proposition :p

Cool, that's good to know! But aren't the old screens already matte/anti-reflective? I'd love to take pics for comparison but I did not bring my DSLR along today.

No so sure bout the old screens, but from what i read, they were only able to debut the new screens because of this new coating.

I only know that the N20 has lots of torque. I experienced it on someone's X3 (as a passenger), wow, scarily fast. (Maybe it's because I'm a slow driver.)

Hitmee, quality post?

Re: BMW’s Newest 3 Series Launched in Singapore

I found the F30 to be significantly more roomy than the E90.

I'm 1.93m tall and in the F30 when I've set my driving position, I can actually comfortably then sit in the rear. I can't do this in the F10 5er. Trust me I was equally surprised when I visited PML with the wifey. It's even more roomy compared to my present A5 SB. Admittedly though the F10 has significantly more shoulder and head room, but personally though I'd trade shoulder for leg room any day!

It was easy to convince the other half and we reserved a 335i... hopefully will pan out well :)

F30 rear has more leg room than F10, bo logic leh ...

Re: BMW’s Newest 3 Series Launched in Singapore

The leather on the seats is noticeable 'looser' but after driving the new 328i for the last 4 days, i have to say the seats are alot more comfortable as compared to my previous 323i.

On the screen, didnt know about the anti-reflective coating, but so far, have not had any issues with reading whats on the screen under the afternoon sun.

I test drove the F30 328i Luxury line. The exterior and interior is very much better than E90. However, I don't know is it just me but I kinna feel that the engine sound is louder in the cabin for this inline-4 2 liter compared to my current E90 inline-6 325i. Anybody can share?

Likewise my first impression of the 328i today is that the interior finish is better than the E90. I found the operation of some of the storage boxes and trays a bit weird though. The car felt very familiar to drive but had a strang buzzy sound at idle. Guess it is what the other forumers describe as teh "tiak tiak tiak" diesel clatter sound?

Nice swell of torque but very different in character to my old 325i - slower, yes but linear and and fun to rev!

Find it difficult to accept the price tag but i guess these are the times we live in now.

Re: BMW’s Newest 3 Series Launched in Singapore

I'm not sure how you guys look @ the interior finish other than having an "overall" glance. Yes, the new dash is nice, but overall I think it feels "cheaper" built.

I tend to look a little bit in more detail with regards to workmanship vs just gadgetry alone.

The tiny details, like the door panels - half of my E90 above the armrest is covered in leather. The F30 has about half this coverage. The speaker is also mounted on plastic and ... what?! Now that I am looking @ the pics, the dashboard cuts the speaker.

The only thing I appreciate is the handle which I think fixes the peeling rubber paint problem.

What difference is it from the VW Jetta:
2011-volkswagen-jetta-door-panels.jpg

This is just one small part of several disappointments I found.

The other one was that the center console didn't have a sliding armrest (I think it will appear in the LCI). And the spring-operated release latch in the E90 is now replaced by a static plastic hook.

I will buy the F30 only for one thing - the torque of the N20 engine. It's really awesome for day-to-day city driving. But like I said, it's also available on the 5er and Z4, etc. The smaller sister engine is also in the 1er (which has almost 100% similar interior as the 3er). I would consider the 5er. At least it doesn't feel like some penny pinchers were trying to save on a piece of leather for the door...

Talking about pricing, IMHO it's outrageous. I got my new E90 @ $170K thereabouts (mid-2011) with a ~60K COE and ~40K OMV. COE hasn't risen much ($20K at most?) but the price is a whopping 50K difference. Talk about margins!

Good observation, detach8. I also sensed that the E90's interior seems to be better in a simple yet elegant way but could not pinpoint the difference until you pointed it out. I also appreciates having more leather in my E90 :). The F30's interior does look a lot busier and sometimes certain details may become more noticeable over time and the imperfections will stick out later.

Re: BMW’s Newest 3 Series Launched in Singapore

if u want to compare, E46 interior so much better than E90.
