Hi,

Think this is a tough one to answer...

Many reasons why people buy a product at the tail end of its production life:
1. Very stable operating platform - electronics..
2. Usually would be facelifted with more frills thrown in, tweaks to suspension, looks, running parts etc...
3. Tried and tested
4. Competitively priced
5. New product may not be to everyones liking - the new 3 series is already drawing divided opinion
6. The person may need the car in the near future - usually 1st few productions of new BMWs fraud with bugs..hence wiser to buy an established product
7. Maybe people just like the "old" 3 series more!!

Can i ask people who just bought BMW 3 Series. Why knowing that the new 3 Series are coming out why you still purchase the old ones?

I am doing a school research on BMW 3 Series, not the new one but the one..and do you all have any informations on the old 3 Series?

I'd think one way of looking at buying the end-cycle product is this (using E46 cycle 318i as an example):

(1) It has been fine-tuned in the technical aspects (from 1998's 1.9 bare to 2000's steptronic, to 2002's 2.0 valvetronic);

(2) It has been fine-tuned in the aesthetic aspects (example the facelifting in 2002);

(3) It has many parts and options for upgrading and modifications;

(4) It has more frills thrown in...... I am betting that next year's E46's clearance at PML might include full AC kit perhaps with Type III wheels......

the first Q - the 318i...yeah the price's lower with a coupla toys thrown in, BUT you're still stuck with an old 3 series!...it's like sitting on the sidelines watching the parade go by :verysad:
