Bmw=porsche?

Re: Bmw=porsche?

You don't leave the position he had for Audi unless what he saw coming over the next few years was less than impressive in his eyes.

Not necessarily, like many of us, we dont go to another work place just simply we think our current work place isnt impressive...Some people like new challenges.
Audi has all the challenges. It's in a much tougher competition league than Porsche I'd say.

Is the Porsche magic diminishing?

Is it more impressive to own a BMW today than a Porsche?

What recommendations would you make to the next Exec that takes over for Schwarzenbauer?

1. No
It remains a classic legend. The shape is evolutionary than revolutionary.
Porsche AG is smart in the way they make their cars, ie no variant cannibalizations. The upcoming Panamera will compete in a new segment and I m confident it will succeed.

2. No brainer question

3. Focus on the company strategies. Cultivate the success of Porsche history in his mind and don't mess it up with some radical changes.

haha i really poser ma thats y kekeke no la for me its more of a lifestyle thingy, I dont track or drive that fast on the roads anyway kekeke. If I can find a used Boxster S Cabrio at a not too ex price, it will be leisure car ya hehehe, then drive the 3er to work, run errands, etc. Then the Boxster S for outings, weekends with my wife or "mistress" hahahaha fun man.

Anyways me off topic again, yesterday was at espace service centre for an oil change, then saw a few porsches there man, fell in love with them as I went for a taxi ride in a 996. hahaha then surf net last night, found that the Boxster S Cabrio one of the more affordable ones and nicest looking and great pose value in my opinion kekekeke so decided on the Boxster S. Now trawling SG car mart for a decently priced used one.....hehehe :yummie:
Poseurs never admit one lah! You are a joker and much less of a poseur!

Because you don't track, go for a basic 2.7 230HP Boxster. You can scream the engine with less danger of losing the license, the upkeep is far cheaper. 5-speed VW-sourced transmission is sweet but too easy though, the Box S has the 6-speed Getrag one, which is initially unpleasant but you get to love it (like Evo 5-speed gearbox).

When getting Boxsters avoid the 2.5 unless you are SURE about their Rear Main Seal in the engine block crankshaft mount has been replaced or the status as `OK' confirmed. Also check for engine block porosity because the first year of manufacture had serious issues with the lokasil coating because the supplier engine block one of his machines broke down.

Also check the service record for the 2.5 see whether Stuttgart did a re-sleeve. This will self destruct one, as I've seen on one box some time back.

Best is go for the 2.7 litre or 3.2 litre lah ... the 2.5 is not exactly underpowered but the later 2.7 with variocam improved the mid-end torque making the car pull better at 3rd and 4th gear.

I think Audi NEEDS radical changes. The Porsche way only worked for Porsche because it kept at their racing heritage, but Audi took a long hiatus. And their cars today are unreflective of their impressive racing efforts.

On the contrary, I think Audi needs to continue radical change, to take on BMW more powerfully and replace BMW on the mindsets of people while keeping their traditional user base. That means, an abandonment of the FF chassis, don't rely too much on Quattro for 4WD and have a pure RWD sports sedan like the 3- and 5-.

They are well on their way except they are doing too much `porsche RR' style by keeping the FF chassis alive with the B8 platform. Missed chance, but they hoped that they can bluff some enthusiasts but they are not misled.

All the time leveraging on the VW relationship for economies of scale, Audi should be able to easily execute to compete effectively with BMW, while Mercedes continues its move ahead of BMW on the premium scale.

Re: Bmw=porsche?

yeah agree wif you but i thot the question was asking bout the new Exe that will replace the outgoing one.....

Re: Bmw=porsche?

times may change...but marque perception is based on a reputation u build over the years. no point comparing the two.

Agreed, toto. One firm has built up its reputation on making top notch sports cars, the other on making luxury sedans. BMW has traditionally benchmarked itself against MB rather than Porsche. Although you could argue that both diluted their brand values by churning out non-core products like the Cayenne and X5.

My view is that the short term threat to Porsche comes more from "in-house," from cars like the Audi R8 and the speculated R4 than from any current BMW product. In the longer term, others have speculated that it is environmental concerns rather than any competitors' product that poses a threat to Porsche's economic survival. Porsche makes some very emissions un-friendly cars, and already civic leaders in London have threatened to tax Porsche sports cars out of the city, together with SUVs and the like.

Interestingly, there has been speculation that Porsche's acquisition of shares in VW AG has been driven as much by a desire to get hold of modern R&D in electronics as much as a desire for product diversification. It costs a lot of dough to develop new engine technology these days, let alone a new car. And it won't be easy persuading a public that is increasingly spoilt for choice to cough up huge loads of cash for a low volume, niche product.

sure if I can make it I will go see. But I tell you, I will not be able to add value to you, because we can't even see the engine unless we jack the car up. Best is ask for service records. Or as a professional inspector see for you, just tell him what to look out for.

Oh WTF just bcos Porsche top exec jump ship to AUDI nia, he could be offered a bigger salary duh !

Porsche and BMW make good cars. If tomorrow my boss is run over by a car and I take over his position, I will buy an X6 to complement my 3 series. If my boss's boss also got hit on the road at same time, great. Then I will move 2 notches up the corporation and possibly change my fleet of cars to a GT3 plus a Cayenne turbo.

So one boss mati - 335 coupe plus X6
2 bosses mati - GT3 plus Cayenne turbo

if my company president also dies, I buy gallardo.

Re: Bmw=porsche?

I think Porsche and LV have a lot in common. If you want to know why Porsche is different from BMW, ask your wife why LV is different from say Coach.

Re: Bmw=porsche?

a porky is a car for a chap more than 50 yrs old. he can drive it till he dies..n car will still be running.

a bmw is for a 30 yr old who aspires to be like the 50 yr old...eventually a bmw guy will buy a porky. look at jack...

if u wanna break out...u go italian...but go italian when u r young...enjoy the romance of a lambo or F (Maser doesnt come close....)..u can always go back to the reliable german bitch later...

at the end of the day...everyone will buy a porky...

Nice Analogy but Jack doesnt look even close to 50. Hell if hes 50, Mary Chia must be taking real good care of him. I think i also will join Mary Chia. :lol2:Most BMW owners ultimately land with porkers or italian breeds. That itself is a clear cut indicator that the latter is of a significant breed.

Re: Bmw=porsche?

I agree with the last few comments. :)

I think both brands have excellent brand equity but pitched at very different market segments and price points. There will always be a good market for bimmers and likewise for porkers but to go as far as saying bimmers will replace porkers is far fetched imo.

If budget & family circumstances (ie home CFO) wasn't a constraint, I bet my bottom dollar, everyone on this thread will buy a porker this weekend if you haven't got one already. I'm not saying you will dump your BMWs, but I'm sure you will add to your fleet. At least I know I will. :)

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers,
B
ps: in the meantime, i'm also considering the 'cheaper' GTR :)

That a fact?

You might be right.

If I were old and no mood to visit workshop, I may have a little porky but most importantly a LS460 too ...

Re: Bmw=porsche?

Tot I would add on what I think, BMW and Porsche are 2 very different cars, Porsche to me is more of a lifestyle car, for eg the BMW 335i coupe/cabrio, Z4 are lifestyle cars to me. E90 3er would be for more practical purposes, like ferrying ur family, work, errands, etc. I am looking for a boxster for outings, weekend uses, etc. Cars are very subjective, Boxster maybe a lifestyle car to me, but it maybe an everyday car for another person. They would maybe have a F430 in their garage as their lifestyle car, etc. Age to me is irrelevant, it all depends on how deep ur pockets are at this moment of time. Im near 30, but I don mind having an additional Porker in my garage, it is to me a fun and nice car to have. But of cos now I do not have the budget for a new Porker, etc therefore I can only dream. Porsche and BMWs are marketed very differently in my opinion.

I hope I have not offended anyone because this is purely my opinion only. Thanks!

Re: Bmw=porsche?

why compare till like you must/can only choose one brand. just get as many as you can afford or alternate every year or two lo... each brand had its best model and range...

Re: Bmw=porsche?

It's like comparing patek philippe (porsche) and tag heuer (bmw).
