CAD arrests 5 City Harvest Church members

Actually, in contrary, my view is if the church-goers wants to give and see their leaders be clothed in luxury, why not. Who says religion means nothing? This is Buddhism, not religion as a whole. Chritianity on another hand, believes in the abundance that God will provide for. The issue with this case is that they are dishonest, they cheated and they clearly misuse the funds for whatever reasons it wasn't catered for. These are 2 separate issues.

That's a very offensive statement. Just because you do not go to church, doesn't mean people do not go to church for the right reasons. When you mention Church members, that's their own doing and it is not religion. It is culture. They are different. So other religions, parents don't dwell on things like compatibility? Again, that's people and culture. And yes, I take what you say with great offense.

That's not a statement...it's a question...pardon me if there is no clarity in it...

But it's what I hear from Christians or ex Christians themselves...

I have nothing against Christians in general...in fact I respect people whom have a faith be it any religion unlike me...

Even with the few Christians whom don't respect other religions or personal space I recognize they are a minority whom are not representative of most Christians...But it's these people whom irk others and give Christianity which we don't already understand enough a bad name.

Biskit de Noir, it is sad, but whenever someONE that purportedly represents a religion (note, the deliberate use of the word religion, not faith) trips & falls in such a spectacular fashion, the entire faith, through this one misdeed, gets dragged through the mud :(

And Buddhism is not a religion per se, its a TEACHING..

Mankind made it a religion. and glorified it...

No.

"The precept: “Judge not, that ye be not judged” . . . is an abdication of moral responsibility: it is a moral blank check one gives to others in exchange for a moral blank check one expects for oneself.

There is no escape from the fact that men have to make choices; so long as men have to make choices, there is no escape from moral values; so long as moral values are at stake, no moral neutrality is possible. To abstain from condemning a torturer, is to become an accessory to the torture and murder of his victims.

The moral principle to adopt in this issue, is: “Judge, and be prepared to be judged.”

The opposite of moral neutrality is not a blind, arbitrary, self-righteous condemnation of any idea, action or person that does not fit one’s mood, one’s memorized slogans or one’s snap judgment of the moment. Indiscriminate tolerance and indiscriminate condemnation are not two opposites: they are two variants of the same evasion. To declare that “everybody is white” or “everybody is black” or “everybody is neither white nor black, but gray,” is not a moral judgment, but an escape from the responsibility of moral judgment."

Let's look at what you typed...

how many people truly attend Church to find God...?

I understand that's a question. I don't profess to know or understand but one is to know better than to question others' faith in a public forum. I'm not you, I wouldn't comment further. You are indeed entitled to your views.

some people seem to make use of the Church network for their own business...support network...

This is a statement. You have qualified by saying some people. Again, this is your view which I should not and will not question. But what I'm saying is that things peple saying about religion and other people's faith will have impact. I would think I have half a brain to be careful about things like that. Religion, Networking = Separate matters. No right or wrong. So doing business with another church goer is deemed wrong? I wish to ask if you know anything about Christianity or are you using your coloured views on other religions on this issue? Networking is not about making use, it's about utilising. Different. Again, nothing to do with religion.

then you hear also when older Church members object to some younger Church members relationships...because of their family background being 'incompatible'...??!!

Only for church goers? This is a statement masked in a question. Again, please recognise that this is not unique to certain religions.

Lastly, do you mean that only a part of Christians irk people and people of other faiths don't have that? It still boils down to every group despite race, religion, colour, language, will have black sheeps. This is not unique to any class of human race.

Re: CAD arrests 5 City Harvest Church members

I see people on Facebook saying "let he who is sinless cast the first stone" regarding the CHC issue. Problem is, these are the same people who commented on govt policies, corruption scandals, underage sex scandal and the like. Why the double standards?

I rather subscribe to the belief that we can judge that an act is wrong, but we should never judge whether a person is inherently evil, and we are morally superior. Given the same life experiences, upbringing, resources and genetics, can we safely say we wouldn't turn out the same?

OK, I'll be fair - I reckon we should show some civility & keep the discourse to the facts of the case as it is known before us, as opposed to wanton speculation & casting insidious insinuations.

Let's not be so quick to judge, and let he who is sinless cast the first stone... Bible say one.

I think I should clarify what I meant by the quote. This is NOT a blank cheque to allow evil to proliferate. It's just that, at this point in time, they have not been found guilty yet - and their day in court has yet to arrive.

I'm not going to play judge jury and executioner - skarly, they are found to be innocent then how? Egg on the face leh...

So, I keep to the facts first, and then let loose after they've been found guilty or otherwise :)

I da man :)

Unfortunately, even with all that education and PhD in everything, we Humans are Evidence based and not Fact based...

Eg:

You went to work and found out your bonus is lesser than others.

1. Your were a lousy worker and thus deserved lesser bonus: Fact

2. Cb must be becoz I forgot to burn joss sticks to Guan Yin this morning: Evidence

I don't see any executing going on in this thread. There's no jury either, and no judge appointed.. just different people with different levels of rationality expressing their opinion (based on their own observations, experience, so yes judgement but not absolute because they don't hold the fact file), but even then let's not try and quash discussion. No one is literally sending them away without fair trial.
