Guess it depends on the PI. Some would be willing to take your money any time :)

As for me, still waiting for the official details. I heard we'll get the internal documents (sent to dealers etc) in a few weeks' time, and the full unveiling will be at the Tokyo Motor Show in October/November.

Re: Spy pics of GTR

Couple of months back i heard bookings went for $270K on a manual piece...may come with Brembos or maybe just normal brakes.

Now Yen is up so i guess it'll be higher. Heard that a total of 7pcs have been ordered thru just one importer.

VR38VETT Confirmed by Holiday Auto

Japan’s Holiday Auto magazine goes on the record confirming the name and specification of the upcoming GT-R’s engine in its latest ‘GT-R Perfect Manual’ edition.

Even though the 2008 GT-R’s release is still just under two months away, Holiday Auto has been hard at work putting together a 10 page article exploring the new GT-R’s engine, chassis, driveline and interior features, some of which is old news by now but included nonetheless. We’re told that Nissan was in fact looking at a V8 engine to use in the GT-R in its early stages of development but found that the VK45 from the Nissan President wasn’t an engine worthy of the ‘R’ in the GT-R’s badge. Although it could satisfy the power, torque and driveability deemed necessary for the GT-R, the way in which it delivered those attributes was more befitting of a large saloon than a GT car. There was also a status problem, the VK45 being associated with Nissan’s luxury sedan would cause problems with potential GT-R buyers who were looking for more exclusivity… well exclusivity is what they got.

The VR38VETT
Holiday Auto broke the news about the existence of a VR based GT-R engine last month, and since then has gone one further and given us a actual alphanumeric designation: VR38VETT. The VR38 is actually a recreation of the famed VRH35L V8 powering the R390 Le Mans car albeit in V6 form. A lot of knowledge gained from Group C and endurance racing has allowed Nissan to take the performance aspect of the GT-R that little bit further (over say, a VQ based engine) by taking the basic design of the VR38 and using it for the new GT-R’s V6 engine block and cylinder heads. A surprising feature of the twin turbo system is the ‘Integrated Exhaust Manifold Turbine’ where the exhaust manifold and turbo exhaust housing are formed as one piece. We’re told this is for weight saving, packaging and high response and was chosen over the more costly ‘motor assisted twin turbo system’ that was predicted way back in mid-2004. What all this has resulted in is an engine design that could be viewed as two 1.9L straight 3-cylinder DOHC turbo engines joined by a common crankshaft, with separate intake manifolds and throttle bodies for each bank. The intake manifold is actually the centerpiece of the engine bay, its intake runners being used as a design feature of the VR38VETT as shown in the CG mock up image shown below.

Cosworth’s involvement in the GT-R’s engine development has been mentioned before on many occasions but until now there hasn’t been much information on what they’ve actually done. Holiday Auto tells us the GT-R’s aluminum engine block is a ‘monoblock’ design, meaning it doesn’t use sleeves inside each cylinder bore so that the pistons make direct contact with the block. Cosworth has also reduced the weight of the crankshaft, conrods and pistons to achieve maximum response and a free revving nature that belies its larger 3.8L capacity. It comes as a surprise too that the whole engine looks a lot shorter than what you would expect a 3.8L engine to be, its compact design and light weight being a major contributing factor in the cars overall balance. Many other parts such as the cam covers, timing chain cover, oil pan and a multitude of bolts, screws and washers are all made of magnesium. The GT-R will also use a semi-wet sump system which can handle higher g-forces over a traditional wet sump which start to suffer from ‘oil sloshing’ at around 1.8G. As pointed out in our previous article, the power delivery of the VR38VETT extremely linear and does not drop off after hitting maximum power at 6,800rpm which was a big factor in proceeding with the development of an all new engine. From as little as 1,500rpm a powerful surge can be felt with - what seems like - all 480ps available with very little throttle application. It has been said that there are very few people with enough skill to drive the new GT-R at its limit, this limit being so high that a driver of average skill level would never be able to test the boundaries of the GT-R’s performance… this could possibly be an exaggeration on Holiday Auto’s part, but the point has been made clear: the new GT-R is every bit a Supercar.

Group C Influence
Kazutoshi Mizuno, who headed Nissan’s Group C and Le Mans racing programs, has brought a lot of Group C racing knowhow to the new GT-R in the form of an overall design theory rather than just a particular specification level or layout on paper. Where the BNR32 GT-R was specifically designed to conquer the Group A Championship in Japan (and subsequently Australia) and then sold on to the public, the new GT-R takes the opposite approach being a car designed for the public using knowledge gained from Nissan’s racing exploits. The Group C cars of the early 1990s were all about outright speed and this has been applied to the new GT-R right from the word ‘go’, every part of the car has been designed to gain maximum speed without upsetting the cars outstanding balance. As an example, during the Group C racing era it was found that cars with around 750hp were more drivable and could actually lap quicker than cars with 1,000hp and thus detuned, so this led the GT-R design team to limit its output to under 500hp despite the fact that the chassis could handle well in excess of that figure.

Multi Function Display and Price
The new GT-R’s Multi Function Display will offer more information than previously available in the BNR34 GT-R. Four main presets categorize the information:
Preset 1: boost pressure (1.5kg/cm limit), oil pressure and temperature
Preset 2: selected gear, gearbox oil pressure/temp
Preset 3: cornering g’s, accelerator opening
Preset 4: acceleration g’s, braking g’s, front and rear torque split

Nissan Japan’s dealer network has been given pricing for the officially named ‘Nissan GT-R’ at 7,900,000 yen with certain options like a Bose Premium audio system incorporating - and this might come as a shock to current GT-R owners - a subwoofer mounted over the transmission tunnel between the rear seat footwells thus rendering the GT-R a strictly 2+2 seating arrangement. About a year after the GT-R has been released in Japan there will also be a model to go head to head with the Porsche 911 GT2, possibly to enter the market badged as a ‘Nismo Version’ and based on a V-Spec model.

How exciting....looks like a very focused development that can't afford defeat n disappointment

yes...you are right the same PI cum tuning house claim to have sold 7 units. also had some magazinc feature showing the car. they confirmed its 3.8L twin turbo,7 spd Audi vesion of DSG. the new 7 speed DSG type gearbox is develped by Audi, prob will be placed in the potent version of the R8, featuring rumoured Gallardo V10 engine.

for yr info, the same PI has been caught different prices to different people....ranging fm 250k to 270k, so do speak to the right person. there are on offer no just 2 version(or at least fr the JDM mkt, which the PIs are bringing in from) - 6 spd manual and 7 spd DSG...prcing 250-270k fr manual, and 300k fr DSG. also, contrary to their claims, they will not be the ONLY ones bringing in the first batch. the GTR EVO version is will pure 2 seater and no release yet.

the first arivals in Singapore after the tokyo motorshow will be in late nov, early dec. these cars are actually show cars fr japan based Nissan dealers who are selling these cars to Singapore instead of using them as show cars. again, the first buyers will be like testbeds for the car. as usual Tan Choong has got no info as to whether bringing in the car(or maybe i speak to wrong people there). strongly encouraged to wait fr second batch, if not third.

i am still considering, bros out there who wanna consider, and possibly join in group buy fr better prce, please PM me.

My biggest concern has to do with weight. Some of the rumoured numbers look astronomical. But considering the old R34 was already a 1.6 tonne beast, those 1.8 tonne numbers start looking plausible.

Thing is even Porkies have gone on a diet. The 911 Turbo is pretty lightweight at just 1.6 tonne. And while you can compensate for that with more power to get better speeds and acceleration, there's not a lot you can do abt the handling.

Re: Spy pics of GTR

Looks like an interesting focused car so far but the brakes are from blembo or brembo?

GTR EVO version supposedly 10okg lighter, with more bhp??

Re: Spy pics of GTR

just thought you'd like to know that the GTR has integrated the turbos into the engine casting, and all the plumbing too. Reliable and great, but gone are the days of an easy bolt-on turbo swap.

Re: Spy pics of GTR

The current booked ones dun have even Brembos (RAMBO) from my understanding but the later batch should have them on. There again, typical of Jap Brembos, they are probably going to be nothing to shout about considering the power and weight of the car.

Only concern now "i guess" would be if there would be any issues for the 1st batch which perhaps may even lead to Jap having to "re-call" them back.

I guess if i had the cash to buy this beast, it'll probably have to be the 2nd batch units.

This car should be one hell of a driving machine!

That means, modding will become more expensive due to the integration

Re: Spy pics of GTR

When I had a chat with LW of G-R, he told me the weight is competitive..similar or under the 997 Turbo which is near 1.6 tonnes

We shall see but I am just so excited this time.

Clearest Look Yet as the GTR sets it's sights on the Porsche Carrera GT

9070924.013.1M.jpg

The Nissan GT-R development team has made another run at the Nürburgring record books this morning--and the Porsche 911 Turbo is no longer its target. Sources intimately familiar with Nissan's latest test sessions inform us that the group is now gunning to beat the Porsche Carrera GT--a remarkably lofty goal considering that that Walter Röhrl reportedly piloted a Carrera GT around the 'Ring in 7 minutes 28 seconds. Another Carrera GT, driven by Horst von Saurma, managed a lap time of 7:32.

Our sources tell us that, thus far, the Nissan has fallen short of the Carrera GT's record-time, but not by much. Our mole tells us that some wet sections of the track slowed them down, and that with optimum track conditions, some heroic driving could still reel in the Porsche Supercar. Nissan reps would not divulge any specific lap times, but they hinted that something under 7:35 may have been achieved. Regardless, it's clear that Nissan's goal of overtaking the 911 Turbo has been achieved in a big way.

Stopwatch drama aside, Nissan also gave us some new eye-candy by removing most of the camouflage that has been a staple of GT-R sightings for more than a year now. Although not in showroom shape, the latest GT-R test cars give us our clearest look yet at the prototype's front bumper and headlights, and the GT-R badge is now prominently displayed in the grille-opening, and on the trunk lid. We also managed a pretty revealing interior shot as one GT-R prepared to launch. The rear vinyl camouflage has also been removed, and now only flat-black paint remains to obscure the GT-R's true styling. This is as close as we're likely to get to an undisguised car until the car's Tokyo Show debut.

In their most recent 'Ring runs, Nissan rented the track early Monday morning, and had three GT-R prototypes--spaced one-minute apart--all taking their best shots. One of the GT-Rs was reportedly driven by Horst von Saurma--the same 'Ring specialist that drove the Carrera GT to a 7:32 lap time. Another driver was said to be a Japanese driver named Shimizu--possibly well-known racer Kazuo Shimizu. The third GT-R pilot went un-named.

This is completely OT and I apologize for it but I ran behind a green GT3 RS earlier at 12+ along Bukit Timah Road headed towards Ophir Road.

Not sure if you guys know the owner. I just had to snap one or two pics with my cam handphone and turn off the radio to listen to that engine. Its farking intoxicating!!!

lucky you never wind down the windows! Omar was riding in his 335 windows down, behind a small cousin of the GT3 and he almost died smelling the exhaust .... imagine GT3 you'd gag.

Post the pictures please under new thread ... preview of 3M's Zuffenhausen. Yup, I think we'll call his car Zuffenhausen coz that's been in his sig for months.

GT3 is a force to be reckoned with. Even the new ///M cant keep up with the GT3 in the straights. WE dont even have to go into details of the corners.
