Clearest shots yet. GTR guns for the Carrera GT!!!

Re: Clearest shots yet. GTR guns for the Carrera GT!!!

OMFG! The GT3 is like playing punk with the M ... GREAT video thx.

KNN the way they drive like the car throw away never mind one, esp the way the GT3 overtake the M3 at the corner with that powerdrift. Nearly hit the M3.

IN THE WET!

AMS rules man!

Actually I think the above's quite apparent, given that the M3 can hardly beat the 2y/o RS4. Not to mention the most track-oriented roadgoing Porsche.

But what do I know.. I never test-drove any one of them before. :laughlik:

You don't even need to test drive any of those. Your Evo 8MR in the wet can utterly slaughter the GT3, or even an RS for that matter.

Good... I should relocate soon to Assam, India, where it has the highest annual rainfall in the world. :lol2:

Too bad I suck when wet.

GT3 is a force to be reckoned with. Even the new ///M cant keep up with the GT3 in the straights. WE dont even have to go into details of the corners.

folks from M3post forum was kind enough to translate the above video into English for our conveniences.

Here you go:

"Innocent, but an enticer. Everybody who's gasoline in his veins, is addicted to the GT3. It's like a drug, but an expensive one, since HP junkies have to spend almost 113.000 €. That's the chance for the M3, which offers almost the same power data for 67.000 € aswell as sports car genes in sedan's clothes. For example the V8 featuring 420HP, 5 more than the Porsche. The cars couldn't be more different: GT3 with race car appearance and rear wing, the M3 is more discreet and not so spectacular...
Let the duel begin, Porsche and BMW, ready for takeoff:
Advantage Porsche: very soft tires, great traction and a weight of 250kg less[than M3], which the M3 finds a hard nut to crack. On the track the M3 surprises however, it's almost on par with the GT3 while not demanding the driver too much - it's a everybody's sports car, civilized and in perfect balance. But the total passion is missing, which is GT3's strong point. The GT3 needs to be driven hard and wants cross acceleration,it's able to pass the M3 in that manner. GT3 shouts out what the M3 is only able to hint, drifting directly into the driver's heart due to its perfection.
(Interior description following)
On the streets you clearly recognize that the M3 is the car for people who want to draw back from the wild Porsche life, a "corner star" with manners, practical, comfortable, and suitable for long journeys, but not in the least boring.
Porsche drivers will start to hate the tires in this situation, the soft cup tires are not suitable on wet roads at all. This car celebrates driving pleasure, no more and no less. The GT3 is not meant to be a DD, that's what Porsche has the Carrera for. It's not easy to give an verdict: The GT3 is faster and more fascinating, but the M3 is cheaper and more practical. (Adding some practical points like space, mainteanance, insurance...)
So the BMW wins this comparison, the Porsche all driver's hearts."

Best regards, south

thanks for the link, acu. Germans are so poetic! Such wonderfully written prose. Automotive porn, I must say, is best made by Germans!

Re: Clearest shots yet. GTR guns for the Carrera GT!!!

Actually the m3 would have fared better if they did not structure the engine sizes according to wards categories. The only reason why it is 3999cc is to get best engine of the world 2008 under 4litres. Had the displacement been more, it would have performed better. But better to what extent remains a question mark. If they had chugged that ego aside to make them win under 4litre, i'd say the new M would have been called 'a legend is reborn'. For now, i am not feeling it. Unless the CSL has some tricks up its sleeve. But in Singapore context, the price would be too much close to the GT3. And the last ///M CSL going for 440k, i reckon the CSL would be atleast ard there if not more. My Choice, GT3. Period.

Re: Clearest shots yet. GTR guns for the Carrera GT!!!

elma, not structured to wards categories lah ... no way the M3 can outgun the M5 and M6 right? so 4K cc is optimal, save cost some more since chop 2 cyl off the M5/6 engine only. All internals same, no need retooling cost.

Re: Clearest shots yet. GTR guns for the Carrera GT!!!

*sigh* so expensive!! :( just got word of the official local pricing as well!!

Anyway, here are the the pre-order sheets for the GTR (in Japanese of course)

First sheet - instructions I guess
page1ok9.jpg

Second sheet - shows the 3 trims and the difference in Basic/Black and Premium editions (Bridgestone Potenza RunFlats, Thacham alarm, Bose sound system and extra airbags)
page2ot5.jpg

Third sheet shows the pricing for the 3 models (before and after taxes)
page3hj5.jpg

No mention of whether the titanium muffler is standard or optional though..

Re: Clearest shots yet. GTR guns for the Carrera GT!!!

Doggie, so how expensive is expensive? From $350k?!P.S.: Posting from my mobile so can hardly see the order sheets you posted.

Re: Clearest shots yet. GTR guns for the Carrera GT!!!

Not sure abt forum rules for posting PI details, but I got the details from MB Motors. Mods can delete this if not appropriate.

All 3 cars have the same engine and transmission and basic specs.

Was quoted $298k for the base model. $305k for the Black Edition and $315k for the Premium Edition.

Interior comes with choice of black or grey.

Colors available are Metal Silver, White Pearl, Titanium Silver, dark grey black and red.

AFAIK the base comes with chrome RAYS forged rims and Dunlop Sport tyres.

Black Edition is black interior + black, with "black" RAYS" forged rims and runflat RE070 tyres.

Premium adds factory alarm system, leather seats and BOSE sound system (includes black forged rims with runflat RE070)

OMV should be 100k and up.

Re: Clearest shots yet. GTR guns for the Carrera GT!!!

What is the transmission used Doggie? Is it twin clutch (DSG) or semi automated manual (SMG II)??

Re: Clearest shots yet. GTR guns for the Carrera GT!!!

Runflats tires? That's shocking to know

AFAIK it is supposed to be a twin clutch transmission, but not sure if it is also made by Borg.

Re: Clearest shots yet. GTR guns for the Carrera GT!!!

eh...why would anyone buy a GTR and go back to Tan Chong for servicing...i reckon it would pump out more than 600bhp barely a month the car has been delivered to the new owner....
