Corner weighting required after installing full coilover system?

Hi all,

Hope to get some advise before I put my cash down for adj. end links,
after installing full coilovers like the Bilstein PSS9, is it that inorder to enjoy the coilover to its full capablities,
one must go for corner weighting with adjustable sway end links for front and rear to adjust pre-load?

Does anyone know where is a good workshop locally that does corner weighting and at the same time computer 4 wheels alignment as well?

Thank you in advance for any inputs.

Cheers

Re: Corner weighting required after installing full coilover system?

You can, if you have extra time and money. You should, if you are pushing your car at 100% at the track, sniffing out the last half-second in your laptime. But it's really not necessary. Even if you do track your car very regularly, if you're not pushing above 80% it's not going to make much difference. Because if you wanna go faster, you can either drive faster, or tweak your coilover settings and tyre pressures, and alignment settings to it's optimum. Only if you have exhausted everything, then you can spend some money to do your corner weighting, coz you have so many other "free" no cost tuning methods available.

Very Good!! Speaking from a Racer!!

RB, have to disagree. Setting up the other areas of the suspension cost both time and money as well. It's just that scales are a little harder to come by and something that less have knowledge on how to carry out. Setting proper corner weights would be one of the first things to do in any serious performance app. It even helps in normal driving by evening out loads and hence wear on the tires. From there you work on the other things.

Logical too! Speaking like a Team Manager!!

"any serious performance app".

Precisely. Serious is the key word here.

I know CP use to borrow/rent (?) scales for corner weighting at his old location. I dunno if he still has access to them. You can try asking him. His nick here is UM2. Rodney (nick Yendor) also might be able to help you.

Hi Racebred,

Thank you so much for your input, infact ,not likely to track the car, just hard street driving occassionally...
Understand your point on the time and money, however hope to tune the car to optimum handling and performance, thus all the investment in performance and suspension parts. Its a no ending process.. you change this part, it link to another ..so on and so forth.. :)

Cheers

Hi Shaun,

You hit the right nail... I actaully do not mind going though the process of time spent and money spent on corner weighting.
The concern is that is there a place in Singapore have knowledgable personnal able to execute it correctly.
Since I have done quite some mods on the handling part of the car( bigger rear sway bar, rear adjustable toe and camber control arms,PSS9,adj front and rear end links etc, maybe fron camber plate in the future) thus would hope to push these parts to its maximum usage even on a stree car...

Thank you so much for your advise..

Cheers
