Damaged Rims

Hi frends,

Basically was driving in JB and got one of my rims into a pothole.Went to change tyres the other day and found out that one of my rims is damaged during the balancing.

So wanna ask for advise.My rims is multipiece.So shud i change to a new set of rims or get it repaired?Please help guys...

depends on how bad the damage is.

is there an air leak?

what did the guy at the tyre shop say? damaged as in it's not perfectly round? is there a crack? or is it warped?

I dont believe theres any air leaks.

And yes,its not round anymore.It wobbles.

And of course,the tyre shop says it needs to be change.I would say the same thing if I was him.Haha you know what i mean.So I'm basically looking for alternatives.

don't know of anyone in singapore who repairs rims (except for curb rashes and minor dents).

it might be advisable to change the rims as you will get more problems later on.

anybody with a better suggestion?

i was unlucky yesterday too. i run over a big stone (fking big stone) and puncture the tyre. the rim was slightly dented. the tyre shop boss said, can repair and should not be a problem. will collect the repaired rim on thursday. hope things will turn out good for me. my rim is only 3 WEEKS OLD !

I'd change them regardless. dont worry about cost...too risky even after repair would not be the same as new.

bukit timah road. there were road works along that stretch and i suspect the big stones are left behind by the truck. i'm on 18" OEM rim. heart pain pain

in retrospective, i'm bless that no accident occurred. take it as "lost money, spare disaster"

Are your rims 2-piece or 3-piece? Forged? Where is the damage - barrel, lip or spoke?

If your rims are 3-piece design, and if the lip is damaged, you can replace the lip. Structurally, the wheel is still intact.

If your barrel or spoke is damaged, the wheel's structure is compromised. Don't take the risk.

Ultimately, the wheels hold the 4 pieces of rubbers that could determine your life, or your passengers' especially when grip matters most. I don't see the rationale of saving money on these.

well im not sure how piece is mine,but im currently on Breyton Spirits,maybe you have an idea how many piece is it..

and also..im not sure where's the damage's at..and yeah..im thinking abt changing it but need the Yusoff Ishak's man..haha!

you are damn right. the americans need a lot of benjamins and we need yusoffs
this is what the stone did to my rim. i guess this is also the result of using low profile tyre

i'm collecting my dented repaired rim this thursday. where to go to do wheel alignment + high speed balancing to check whether the wheels are alright ? roughly how much ?

another question, how long does the tyre pressure "alert" goes off ? i have pumped 4 tyres and reset the alert already.

I also hit the kerb and damaged my rim, called yew lip and was tolde they no londer repair rims!

You may want to try Hurry Tyre, lok for Tristan. I got mine repaired there and it was an excellent job done!

ups for Hurry Tyre. they did not do the repair themself. they sent out. don't know who is their "agent" huh ... hehehe

I also hit the kerb and damaged my rim, called yew lip and was tolde they no londer repair rims!

You may want to try Hurry Tyre, lok for Tristan. I got mine repaired there and it was an excellent job done!

As mine was minor, it was actually done on the spot. One of the worker did it with Tristan supervision.

And it was at a very reasonable rate too! Thumbs up!
