The IU has been shifted to the centre.

IU in centre will also give a better sound stage :cloud9:

Great worksmanship there !

All the pics can display... and reference the same photobucket location where I store them. Try refreshing your browser and see...

My right tweeter on dash... looks exactly like my left. I know why you ask... because of the IU right?

The IU has been shifted to the centre. BTW, easy operation - the cleanest way to do it is to buy a replacement bracket at VICOM. You can buy the plastic bracket with original 3M clear mounting tape for only $7.35.

Show lei the right tweet...i wanna see the angle.. :)
i keep hearing neutral parties saying H701 has hissing problem...

bro, btw...why Orion amps ?

Re: Diary of an ICE install - E46 Coupe

Right tweeter pic got to wait a while. My digicam went on holiday with my wife and left me behind :p

Why Orion? New range gives decent performance, and orientated towards a good cost per watt ratio. USA brand with decent reputation but this new series is made in Korea, so prices are reasonable. THis is because Orion, PPI, A/D/S has ben acquired by Directed Audio. It was a calculated risk to go with this new series but so far the SQ has been very decent, and performance not bad at all.

50Wx2 for front tweeter
200Wx2 for front midrange
50Wx2 for rear fill components
725Wx1 for subs

its a risk definitely .. it gives u clean power for the tweets ?
and u didnt face any hissing prob with the h701 ?

Re: Diary of an ICE install - E46 Coupe

Not any apparent or abnormal hiss. If i crank it up, maybe can hear a bit of recording hiss as with system that is revealing, not with audiophile but those normal CDs.

Perhaps if the 701 is forced to process a dirty hissy signal from speaker level output of a HU, which has been further processed to RCA level by a low grade Hi-Low converter, the processor circuitry will be enhancing the inherent noise even further - I don't know.

Anyway, if used with a normal HU - no problem. I haven't heard other feedback about hiss.

You sure you're not referring to those kind of hiss caused by improper level matching?

Re: Diary of an ICE install - E46 Coupe

Hi there..

I must say that it's an very impressive job :) The backdrop looks like it's done at Hong Guan ?

Might be irrelevant here but just wonder if ur set radio works well with the factorys antenna ? My 7998R seems to have a lot of distortion especially with 93.3 and 95.0.

U have such problem ?

Thanks....

Re: Diary of an ICE install - E46 Coupe

Yes, job was done by HG's skilled hands.

Reception is very very good, and nothing special was done in that aspect. I have sampled 2 Alpine HUs in this car, 9833 and now this IVA-D310. I used to have a 7998 in my old car and it was good too (WRX - with the standard in-car antenna).

For Alpine, there are some tuner settings - I think you have options like: 'hifi', 'normal', or 'stable'. The default setting is the best. I remember switching to 'hifi' and the sound was very susceptible to fuzz as the car moves. Try playing around with that - it should work. If not, then recheck your antenna lead - it could simply be a bad connection; just like if the plug is only partially in. I have seen reception problems fixed like this before too, in fact just last week.

Woah... D310! It's out already ah? Must let me try it man!

Thanks for the link. I havent heard of the actual hiss myself, but i've heard 3 pple mentioning it. As usual, the possible cause are wide and varied, such as wat u mentioned. Even using optical HU will have popping noise here and there, some not audible.

i was quite surprised when i saw that u use Orion amps... since some pple are still skeptical about korean amps, which can be unfair. In my info search for a tweet amp, i actually noted the orion 3002 (or was it 2002).. u using them ? IF no issue, i may consider getting them. U aware of the Genesis st100 ? (2 x 75 ).

(Since the hi-low converter been mentioned here... Anyone who has installed ICE in their car, but still using the OEM Headunit, u should consider getting a competition grade converter (aka LOC) such as DAvid NAvone.
Who is keen on a group buy, pls lemme know asap. Tests results have shown that the output signal using the David NAvone LOC is 4 times better than a mid-priced aftermarket HU !! )

Re: Diary of an ICE install - E46 Coupe

I'm using a Hi-Lo converter on my car. How much is this competition garde converter? Might be interested. I think I have to go back to HG soon...

Ho ho ho... that was the unit I waited 2.5 months for! You're looking at the first one in SG... But the indonesians were even faster, heard they got a 1.5 weeks before SG.

They are ok lah. Maybe you should really take a listen... I don't really find it lacking in SQ. I think given average constraints of a normal human being's budget, I place high priority on speakers being really able to do a good job at reproducing the signal properly, and having the tools AND proper tuning to resolve issues. These are the weakest links that should be tackled before we really zoom down to the micro audible differences between a korean/USA amp.

Yeah, Genesis are good amps - pricey though...

P.S. On amps hor... do a search on Richard Clark's $10,000 challenge. Very controversial - he challenges and bets $10k on anyone who can do a blind test and tell the difference between amplifiers. So far no one won the money yet. I don't claim to be a believer or vice versa - but the fact that there is such a discussion make already reveal that if we have limited efforts and budgets, we should excercise and concentrate on other much weaker links instead of just quality of amps.

I have heard many many a system running on exquisite amps - Mcintosh, Butler tubes, TruTech Copper series, Phoenix Gold Human Reign series, but sadly sadly weaker links like speakers and tuning, and good install practices just spoil the show. I'm a firm believer that in most things, tackling the top 20% of weaker links solves 80% of the problems. The rest just goes down to the law of diminishing returns.

Re: Diary of an ICE install - E46 Coupe

You are right about the laws of diminishing returns....the first k you spend is always yields the highest return....as you start to put in more and more, the gain will not be same.

I learn my lessons liao...no more "branded" amps for playing my sub....my theory is...sub is power talks and BS walks. I use Korean for this purpose as its cheap and good. Last time kuku buy expensive amps to play sub....do you rememeber the Audison amp that I had to pump bass ?? What a waste of money !! Now I am using Korean amps to pump my bass....bang for buck !!!

$68. www.davidnavone.com model is NE-774V. Its a four channel one. If u have two amps...perfect ! Its the only model in stock by singapore agent. So, even if u using two channels, this is fine.

Re: Diary of an ICE install - E46 Coupe

Actually I have 3 amps. 1 mono for my sub. 1 for my front and 1 for my rears. Which one should I get?

Re: Diary of an ICE install - E46 Coupe

Remove the rear speakers ..use the amp and go active keke...
okay..out of point.
how many converter u using now ? 3 right ?

Re: Diary of an ICE install - E46 Coupe

Honesly I don't know man HG did most of the inner working I just brought the amps. I want to go active but need an eq to do that.

Re: Diary of an ICE install - E46 Coupe

Hi Folks... to the ICE fanatics who were at the meetup yesterday... pleasure meeting you folks... to those who had the privi of experiencing ICE's setup.... one simple word to describe it... "UNBELIEVABLE"... All pics posted thus far does not justify anything... YOU GOTTA HEAR IT TO BELIEVE IT.....

Re: Diary of an ICE install - E46 Coupe

Yeah man. Pinpoint accuracy puts any GV cinema to shame. I think I can live in that car almost 24/7!!!
