DMS ECU chipping update thread

Hi guys,

Since there's been some mention of DMS chip discussion in various threads, I thought I should simply collate them all in this one thread for easy info sharing. Also I've been getting many pm's on DMS asking qns, so it'll be good to have a single thread for such updates too.

I just spoke to Ian Mao, the singapore agent for DMS, and right now he is trying to tie up with Rob Young of DMS in UK to work out a process for local customers.

Basically, car owners will get their ECU uploaded and emailed to UK, where the enhanced map will be integrated into the program, then emailed back to singapore and loaded back into your ECU. It works basically like any other ECU reflash in singapore like superchips or hiop in this aspect, as each map has your engine number inscribed in it making them unique and non interchangable.

I was thinking, if we can get a pool of interested BMW owners to approach them, we could perhaps get a bulk discount, or if, there's enough demand for a particular model (eg 323i, 523i) then he will be able to R&D and come out with a map if he hasnt already done up one.

So perhaps we can use this thread to express your interest in a group buy, to inject in news if anyone of u r in direct contact with rob, or to ask qns about DMS.

usual disclaimer applies (me not agent, earning any $ or in kind out of this blah blah blah), just helping out fellow forumers.

Re: DMS ECU chipping update thread

btw this ECU remap is not restricted to BMW only. In his website and the singapore cars he's done before, he's got ready maps for Alfas, Ferrari, Porsche, Maserati, Merc, etc. Also, his remap does not only touch on engine parameters like AFR, ignition, cam timings, rev limiter and speed cut but also includes clutchless manual transmission map, suspension map, etc, depending on model.

As far as I know Rob operates on a pay-when-you-feel-satisfied policy. After driving around for a while, if you like it, then pay him, if not he'll just remove it. At least this is my experience when I had my car chipped.

Re: DMS ECU chipping update thread

Interested in E60 523i when Rob finishes working on it. It has been many months since he first started work on it. Hopefully he hasn't given up!

Re: DMS ECU chipping update thread

Much prefer if his R&D include harware upgrade recommendations in various stages . Would be keen to understand if there are really any hardware upgrade opportunities above the "soft-mods" - for the 523i particularly.

Re: DMS ECU chipping update thread

Hi,

do you know if he does remapping of shift points in autobox? My e34(obd1) can benefit with this to help FC. The IS250 is in 6 gear by 40km/h, that's why FC is quite good, 11km/l even with low avg speed.

My e34, especially with the lowered final drive (best performance mod ever), could do with earlier upshifts.

What's his website please?

Thanks!

Re: DMS ECU chipping update thread

as this link is about dms, i think it'd be more informative if people who have done it comment and give a review.. esp on m3's :D

Re: DMS ECU chipping update thread

I have recently bought an E60 525i pre owned by PML, just 5 months old and found the advert for DMS in a magazine.

I sent an E Mail and basically, on the 525, they claim they can increase from 218bhp to 236 bhp and 184lb/ft to 202 lb/ft. That is a 8% increase in bhp and 10% increase in torque.

It appears that a team comes over to Singapore from time to time, second week of July was what they told me (so they should be here now) and it takes 2 hours and costs GBP 695.

DMS gives a 3 year warranty on reprogramming the ecu itself which remains undetected by diagnostic equipment and does not void the bmw warranty.

I do not know whether this is a better option than the Dastek Unichip? Does anybody have any idea or advice on the Dastek?

a few e60s in sg are running around with rob aka DMS's magic. as with old inline 6 engine non valvetronic it makes low end torque come early at around 2500 rpm and improves the high end all the way to redline. the only thing with e60 is the darn transmission is retarded that rob can't help!

Re: DMS ECU chipping update thread

Has any E46 320i M54 done this mod before? Any reviews?

Cheers

Re: DMS ECU chipping update thread

Help me out here please. What exactly do you mean "the darn transmission is retarded'?

Before DMS or after adding DMS? All E60's or has the problem been fixed in newer models?

What exactly is wrong with the transmission?

Oh yes, 1 final question, where can I get Rob's magic fitted?

Re: DMS ECU chipping update thread

Rob has fedback that he is currently working on the 523, 323 engine. He has gotten 16bhp from it so far, work is of course far from done. There's a possibility that interested owners can get this so-called Stage 1, 16bhp upgrade first, then when he's done milking the rest of the engine's potential, go in for an upgrade later. Dunno if this will interest anybody.
