Do you regret buying BMW from PML?

Re: Do you regret buying BMW from PML?

Agree with motorknut on the point that we, who want to buy expensive cars, would do our home work first. I believe we will be very diligent too :). If you already know so much about the car you are buying, would you still want to listen to whatever the SE says? I would rather get info about the best discounts, mfr date (as mentioned), when they can deliver, etc.

Again, on the servicing part. All I can say is that we have to be nice to the SAs. They are people working for a living too. It does them no benefit to hold our cars more than necessary. If I am an SA and this BMW driver came in with a "I-must-get-what-I-deserve-because-I-bought-a-BMW-from-you" face, I will guarantee find ways to keep this guy's car as long as possible. Maybbe I'll spit on the steering wheel too...;)

So, let us all be nice to one another.

Re: Do you regret buying BMW from PML?

guys, speaking from personal experience, i definitely have given them quite a few chances, to the extent that i was asking myself whether their warranty meant anything...

sure there are cases where the big ticket items break down and it makes it worthwhile. there're some people i know who have even gotten the extended warranty for a few thousand bucks.

but have you been asked to pay $7 for each interior trim clip? they wanted to charge me $35 for 5!!! eng soon sells them in packets of 10 for much less.

say what you like about their service. but before you jump on the side of the dealershit, go to one of the bigger sponsor workshops and observe the turnover rate - how long it takes for them to do basic servicing. then compare that with the time PML takes. and then go and ask any toyota owner how long it takes for them to service their car at borneo motors...

Its not so much about taking sides, but more of doing a fair comparison between dealeship and the ext workshops. I'm not saying that the dealership is 100% great. I've heard crap from them before too. But i just feel going to them provides better recourse. cos if an SA is very hard to convince during warranty, just speak to someone in cust svc and they are there to sort it out. And there is still BMW asia who can step in. With external workshops, I've had a friend send in his car multiple times to rectify one problem.. and still had to consult another to finally fix it. And in the end? the first workshop doesn;t even want to refund all the labour from what was prob unnecessary visits since it was a part they installed that was faulty in the first place. so you save 400 bucks for the initial repair, but waste 2k more with all the subsequent resulting problems. what savings is there left then??

My experience with external workshops is, they are cheaper, they usually take shorter time with svcing, but BS comes from all workshops, not just $tealerships. Once a car owned by my family had brake squeal, and a senior guy in one of our so called bigger sponsor workshops said it's cos my relative drives so slow. If i were there i'd have told him off for being so rude. In then end one of their guys just adjusted the pads and problem solved.

and regarding toyota svcing.. I dunno how good the jap dealers are. but a cousin of mine who has a honda once had the dealer refusing to replace parts under warranty. Even when it was within the first year. I've never had such problem at PML, as long as its a part under warranty. Oh, except for rusty windshield wiper washers.... which I dont get why they're reluctant to change.

so, i'm not saying either PML or ext workshops are the ultimate solution. Just that both have pros and cons. Best is to figure out your priority and choose one thats right for your situation. Just as jinooi stated for example. cheap clips, get them on your own. Big ticket items... peace of mind can sometimes warrant the premium paid at PML. But sometimes we tend to jump on PML for the slightest negative thing, and rarely do i hear them receiving credit where due.

Re: Do you regret buying BMW from PML?

in a way, i think the quality of our site sponsors is very much regulated by bmw-sg. there have been so many cases when bros raised issues with their workshops on the forums and elicit replies out of them. the truth is with this free sharing and spreading of information, we the customers r in a way given an advantage when we deal with workshops that depend much on this very forums for publicity (especially the site sponsors).

i'm not suggesting that our site sponsors r compelled to treat us fairly only because we have the means to raise hell on the forums. in fact my experiences with our site sponsors have been absolutely positive. i am simply pointing out that there is a much stronger disincentive for site sponsors to fleece us compared to pml, where a large portion of their cliente probably hasnt even heard of any avenue for them to redress any greivensess. that in itself is an assurance of good quality service (at least for me). and this is not even taking lower costs, shorter waiting time etc into account.

Re: Do you regret buying BMW from PML?

so far,so good. The salesperson from PML is really helpful. Cant say much about the service centre as I have yet to visit them.

Re: Do you regret buying BMW from PML?

In all fairness I truly believe PML is dedicated to providing quality customer service. I have been through several SA's and I must say they are all very polite and try hard to deliver at the quickest posible time with the best of their knowledge. Problem i feel is there are not enough technicians (Not SA's) around to do the work given the increasing number of BMW's coming in and out of PML.

When one decides to send the car in for service or repairs, they should be prepared to have the car there for a day. There is no point in demanding that the car be ready at the quickest possible time. Coz even if they met your timing needs, quality could be compromised.

Recently I bought an item that was charged to me at a slightly higher price as I bought it just before the POJ period. I spoke to the relevant parties and they offered a refund in terms of accessories, which i thought was rather fair and shows their commitment to customers. All without having banged any tables. Response time was not fantastic though.

As far as pricing is concern we all know PML isnt the cheapest out there. Nonetheless should anything happen, regardless of whether your car is under warranty or not, i feel there is always room to negotiate.

Re: Do you regret buying BMW from PML?

My ride once stalled in Malaysia due to me overfilling the engine oil because of a faulty oil level sensor and called PML in Singapore for help. They connected to Saparu Motors, one of the BMW dealers in Malaysia other than Auto Bavaria, and despatched a tow truck within minutes. After an hour and half (I stalled at a relatively remote area outside of KL), the tow truck arrived. They took the car back to the workshop in KL, drained the engine oil to the normal level, checked the car through and called me to collect it after a day.

Perhaps under BMW worldwide warranty, I paid close to zero. Can you believe that? Back to Singapore, PML followed up on my car for close to a month to make sure that the service was acceptable and the car was fine. Will the other dealers do this? I don't think so. I don't think they are all that bad.

Re: Do you regret buying BMW from PML?

Great service! But just to check, when was this and which series that you were driving at that time. Hopefully not donkey years ago:))

As nowadays.... BMW's are "cheaper" and I feel that there is a class structure....

Re: Do you regret buying BMW from PML?

Last year and am driving the humble 320. I was smittened by the attention and thought, "this can't be happening to me". I was really grateful, to be absolutely honest.

Re: Do you regret buying BMW from PML?

The only 2 things i dislike about my current ride is the sound proofing and the audio system. Other then that, I am quite satisfiy with my car. If I did not purchase Z4 for my next ride, then most likely I will not be driving BMW for my next ride cos I really don't need another 4 seaters car :)

Re: Do you regret buying BMW from PML?

Recently my 320 broke down at ayer keroh due to a faulty gear shift sensor, my car could not change gear with the appropriate speed. Call PML and the arrange a tow back to Singapore on a holiday. The fault was rectified in 2 days and the car was delivered back to me.

I followed the tow back to Singapore and before i arrived back home PML has delivered a hamper to my place. The CSO and my sales follow up with calls and letter after i received the car back to check how's the car doing.

Although i was very upset with the breakdown, i was delighted with the response and follow up of PML.

Having cars from different dealer, i must say PML is not bad. There are a few much much much worst than PML.

I agree that PML is not that bad after experience with others where all problems start even before the car is delivered.

Re: Do you regret buying BMW from PML?

hmm... seems like we all have pretty dissimilar experiences with PML. guess it's a matter of heng/suay then? =P

Re: Do you regret buying BMW from PML?

Yep...so far I have had pretty good experience in PML, both my SE and SA.

One of my cupholder was stuck and they replaced both as the new cupholders have a silver stripe on them. Could be because I have a solid SA....but he could have just changed one and not two.

He replaced my door clips even though he knew that my door panel is modified with my audio system.

Just Sunday night, my car broke down in a basement carpark due to "faulty electric steering lock". The mobile technician was called in and my car was towed back to PML for repairs. they replaced the faulty steering column and my car is good as new...ha ha ...for now.

All without cost...even offered to pay for my taxi ride back home and upon collection of car.

Of course...I have had very good services from our site sponsors too :)
