E46 vs E90 320i

Hi there. I'm keen to buy the E46 320i (prob mid 04) but would like to know if there are any reliability issues for a bmw of this age? Also, would like some feedback on how the E46 compares to the E90 320i. Thanks.

Re: E46 vs E90 320i

E46 320i -straight6 2.2l
E90 320i -straight4 2.0l

the E46 is less roomy than the E90, but it has a sweeter engine.

E46 vs E90 320i

Hi, I recently test drove the E90 320 and was disappointed with both the power and looks of the car. Am considering the E46 320 2.2l (preferably mid-04) but am just worried abt the reliability of the car eg. electronics, engine etc. Any views on this?

Re: E46 vs E90 320i

E46 very reliable. No need to worry if you getting one.

Never drive a 320i before, but if you really need the power, must find higher specs wor... 330i or M3?

Re: E46 vs E90 320i

e46 started 1998, phased out since the e90 came along.
That will be around 2005/06

Re: E46 vs E90 320i

not only that,

after all the mods, abused and trash around etc, still damn reliable!

E46 320 has no major reliability issues. The M54 in-line 6 engine is bullet proof.

Common problem is just the window regulator gives way after 3-4 years. $100+ fix. Other than that, it's a relaible car.

Then how about the inline 4 engine? is it just as reliable?

Did you test drive the E90/323i ? Maybe that could satisfy you?

I am not looking at E90 for the time being. I am looking at the E46 318.

AFAIK, the inline 4 is more problematic than the inline 6. But not to the extent that it's unreliable.

Just go down to any BMW workshop like BVO or J4C and speak to the mechanics. They will always tell you to buy a 320 and above if possible.

Thanks CBS for your advice. Whats the gasoline consumption for a E46 318 & 320?

I agree with CBS, i driving E46 320 FL as well. The mileage been hit 173000KM, still dun have any major problem on the engine. Only some wear and tear problem on some of the parts.

Just remember to change your engine oil from time to time. I'm doing my service at BVO, they are the expert for bmw car.:)

Re: E46 vs E90 320i

Thanks for the advice ... I am thinking of late 2001 or early 2002 E46 318 or 320 ... Whats the price that i shld be looking at for these two ranges?

Re: E46 vs E90 320i

Can't go wrong with the E46. There are still a many good ones around with acceptable mileage.

Re: E46 vs E90 320i

go for the e46 or the e90 6 cylinder if u are looking for performance.....
