E90 engine oil leak experience

Hi, as usual I was also a victim of oil leakage issues after buying the e90. Do pm me the contact of the jb workshop, and it will even be better if anyone is going in for servicing or repair and we can go together. Thanks in advance
Cheers

Hi Ben!

How's the use of your e90 so far?
I'm thinking of getting a pre-used e90 too.

Great car. Just that you need to be prepare for oil leak issues which can be fix for a few hundreds bucks. Just fixed my. And drive great now.

I see. Did you send for inspection before you buy the car? If you don't mind, may I know where did you buy from?

No, I checked the car myself. Bought it over from a friend. One careful owner with full pml service record. Basically looks like a new car other than some exterior imperfection. Then I just replace all the fuild, plugs and filter. Replace all the common leaking gasket and it is good to go. While sourcing for yours. Look for any signs of leakages around the engine valve and oil filter area. The metal plate thats near the plug should not be oily. What's apps me at 86112060 and I can sent you some images to look out for. Owning both the e46 and e90 I would say the e90 is more powerful and high low end torque for city driving. You will enjoy it.. Happy searching anyway

Hi
Great to see e90 discussion.
I wana seek advice on the brake rotor. My rotor and pad are due soon. Thinking should i change to aftermarket rotor e.g. hawk pads or other rotor instead of stock replacment.

Any one try out?

Hi guys, getting a 2010 E90, sent to one of sponsored workshops here and was told that it needs 3k repairs (some leaking, gasket replacement, radiator hose etc normal wear and tear stuff) Was wondering if how or where can I go to try to get a lower quote? Saw some of you guys go to Francis, was wondering if I should do the same. New here thanks in advance.

Try another sponsor workshop for 2nd quote if you have the time. So much to change, you may have to leave the car in malaysia for 2 days if you want to try JB workshop

BTW any bros here use KH Power in Tampines? Was recommended by a friend.
Its up to you whether is it worth it to leave for 2 days. Put aside those scary stories of car disappearing and such, you will have to think about logistic to and fro Singapore and another trip the next day, whereas you can uber/grab within Singapore. The savings may be worth it if $$ is your main concern.

Do not have the misconception that just because the site sponsors are sponsoring this site, they will surely be expensive. No. So far I have tried 2 of the site sponsors (near my place, based in Ang Mo Kio) and their level of service and support surpass that of PML (personal opinion).

Price wise, the 2 site sponsors are (definitely) cheaper than PML although between them there are some differences (1 charges GST, the other doesn't). Both are open to you getting the spare parts yourself from stockist. Their prices are quite transparent whereby parts and labour are usually separately itemised.

The JB workshop normally do not allow, if its oil change and for common parts. I've heard that for most other parts, you have to negotiate with them whether can bring your own parts first. Their prices would be in 1 lum sum so not sure whether they will jack up the labour when you bring your own/Do note that spare parts are taxable items when bringing across the causeway, so be careful when you 'hide' them in your boot.

Thank you for the advise and for sharing. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain in detail.

i went to a JB workshop 3 times to settle my oil leakage, yet i still cant solve the leakage problem, went down to the one at woodlands and its solved within 30mins...other den the common leakage area, check on your crank seal to see if its leaking,

Hi all , newbie here just got a e90 lci and notice oil leaks on the floor so was thinking of getting it check in sg before deciding is it worth to head down to Francis. Any advices ?

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

I had a similar problem on my 2006 e90 - oil leak in engine bay. Mileage approx 100k. Sent to PML, and they quoted about $2k. Got a quote from one of the sponsor workshop here and was quoted $1k+ to replace "all related seals" to stop leak problem.

Not convinced, I brought car to my regular workshop in JB who specialises in BMW's. After diagnosis, mech replaced 2 o-rings at oil filter housing, and 4 more o-rings on the 2 VANOS solenoids. Viola! Oil leak no more and I'm poorer by less than RM270 - which includes my regular servicing. I brought my own oil, oil filter and air filter though....

And I must say that these guys are super pro! They even did a complete engine wash for me - meticulously cleaning EVERY item that has oil stain. Now my engine bay looks almost like new again! Hahaha!

If anyone here are feeling adventurous enough to head north to service your car, PM me for contact. Just to clarify, I'm NOT related to workshop in anyway. Just a happy customer after saving 90% of what the workshops here tried to charge me...
where in jb?

Also Check for Pcv leaks.
Or blockage Pcv Valve and hoses.
High pressure can force and cause oil leaks on your gaskets and crankcase seals.
This one most people forget. Only change gaskets is not always the final answer.

Pcv leaks
For e90 before Lci model the Pcv is a desperate unit.
For the Lci models. 2007 onwards I believe, Pcv valve it is built into the valve cover. And the hoses goes to the intake manifold.
Check all that.

It can also help resolve an idle problem as a Pcv vacuum leak can also affect the engine stability and breathing.
