Hello all;
I am a new owner of a late 2010 323 E90, it is a parallel import and the map version in the iDrive shows:
Road Map HongKong/Macau PREMIUM 2010
I am a Mechanical Engineer by profession, and have been an IT professional for 30 years, so I do understand a little bit about file systems
I purchased the latest: "BMW ROAD MAP SOUTHEAST ASIA PREMIUM 2019" maps online and FSC code and downloaded the files and extracted ONLY the contents to a USB Thumb drive that is formatted FAT32.
In the root of the USB stick, there's one file: config.nfm (mapping file pointing to folder) and one folder pkgdb that contains the map data, total size of all these files is around 8GB.
I have read through many forums, and the procedure always appears to be:
1) Insert the USB stick into the Glovebox USB Port
2) Turn on the ignition
At which point you should be prompted to update the maps, but nothing even happens, the USB LED flickers a few times when inserted but that's all.
I have also use the instructions to generate a 1b, file and that was successful, so I know for sure that the USB port is working and is able to read / write to the USB, and that is a CIC system.
But now I am coming across posts mentioning that a "tickmark" must be present in the idrive display for map updates to work, where exactly is this tickmark ? - apparently if this tickmark is not present then the idrive needs a firmware update, is that also something I can do myself or can it be done by a BMW workshop other than PML ?
