I had a leakage problem with my e90 320i... Same thing, SG workshops quoted me sky high prices... I don't blame them - everything in Singapore's getting expensive!!

Eventually, I did everything in JB and is came up to less than SGD1k!! I could be wrong, but I recall working out everything to be below SGD900...

Here's what I had to replace:
- 2 x valvetronic o-rings
- 2 x oil filter housing o-rings
- ATF OIl pan (comes with pan + gasket)
- 7 liters of ZF 6-speed ATF fluid
- Engine valve cover gasket
- "dip-stick" o-ring
- Engine oil pan gasket
- Oil filter
- 4.5 liters Mobil 1 0W40

While the savings is substantial - do consider the extra time and effort in having to buy your own parts and head up north.... But to me? It's all worthwhile...

Oh yes - irrespective of SG or MY, please please please do make sure that the workshop you choose to perform your replacements is competent and familiar with your beemer. It's not only the mechanical familiarity but also the electronics familiarity.....

My next trip up would be to replace brakes - rotors, pads and sensors.... haiz.... so much maintenance....

Good question! The answer is simple - I don't.... Hahah....

What happens is this - I drive my car in for regular servicing - the normal kind. At the same time, I also talk to the mech and seek his advise.... He then starts showing me all the leaking parts. Painstakingly running me through my whole car - all the parts that he believes require replacements. There are some stuff which you can't run away from one lah - like if the ATF pan is leaking, it's leaking. My oil sump was also leaking badly... Can't quite fake it... Hahah...

In any case, most of these replacements are "non-emergency". Can still shelve off for a little bit more time - very much like the situation many forumers here are facing. So I then buy the stuff here and wait for the next servicing to replace them....

Good example would be my brake set. Due to my kiasu'ism, I purchased the brake rotors, pads and sensors sometime Jan this year - shortly after I sent my car for servicing and was informed by my mech to "get ready"..... It's May now, and the OBC tells me I'm left with 700km to brakes replacement... haha... So I should be heading in again sometime soon for my oil servicing + brake change lor....

Re: Engine oil leak

Hi Olympian8, you mentioned that you changed your gasket etc at BVO. How much was it and how long they took to do it? Thanks.

Yeap...they all do because the engines are really quite hot.

pretty normal so dont be surprised.

Just go down to any of the workshops and get it all fixed up.

Factor the cost of fixing up (between 2-3k( into the buying price.

Cheers

yea agreed.

looking at a 2007 E90. the dealer allowed me to bring it to J4C for inspection (i bear the cost of the inspection of cse) without having to pay for deposit...
many oil leaks.. also other main prob with rear axle....so negotiating with the dealer now...

good luck to u in getting ur new ride too~!

Re: Engine oil leak

Went to BVO to get my oil leak sort out. Engine compartment, gear box all got leak. Very well done. Very satisfied:)

Re: Engine oil leak

Hey guys! Please PM me if you want info about the JB workshop I use... I WON'T post it here. It's just unfair! There are good, reliable workshops that pay money to stay on this forum and let's all respect them! In fact, I've used some of them and I had mostly good experiences with them! And although I'm neither affiliated not do I make any money from the recommendation, posting the workshop name / address / contact here is akin to advertising and I don't wanna be breaking any forum rules!

Now, what I WILL do, is, that I'm more than willing to share a good lobang... So for the rest of us here who is still keen and don't mind the additional hassle to save $$$, drop me a PM, okay?

=)

Can! But won't be cheap..... coz our friendly neighbour up north slaps a heavy duty on foreign-made cars and car parts.... =)

You can buy parts from any BMW stockist here.... do a search on this forum... or google it.... try "bmw stockist singapore"

Re: Engine oil leak

Its that located at Ros Merah?

Hope this helps....

I only collected my car last week. Lots of problem, went to BVO to repair my engine oil leaking problem at the Flywheel. I changed the 4 stock absorbers, did engine servicing, changed most of the cooling system hoses and top up new coolant and serviced my gearbox , the stop and jerk issue solve also. I also change sparkplugs and aircon filters etc etc long list of items. So far i drive i can feel better accelerations, much smoother gear change, cooler aircon and better stability on the road. Now still need to monitor.

Re: Engine oil leak

If its any comfort, this are all common when you buy a used 5-6yo e90, unless previous owner has done all the preventive maintenance. Ar 3-5k repairs bill depending where you go get these parts changed.
