F10 - 520i

Re: F10 - 520i

in 2003 I went to C&C to look at C-Class for fun and an aunty saleswoman attended to me. I asked whether can take 10 yr loan...she walked away.

Re: F10 - 520i

now you go and say 10 years loan ... serve you high class coffee + cupcake + if you want carrot cake they will also go outside order $10 carrot cake

if you say pay cash full ... walked away immediately

Re: F10 - 520i

Ya lor, once I said paying full cash, they looked very sian....

Eventually, all insisted must take loan or pay penalty. I offered to pay SE his bank ref, but no, larger pic is AD wants the larger pic bank ref comm...

True, but subjective. Someone who drives a c-class will think the seats are ok and the car is big. Someone who drives a bentley will comment the car is crap.

Lao auntie, but can make her own decision on discount.

wow...lao auntie...i try to be her toy boy..maybe she buy for me! :p

Jerky gearbox, stiff rear seat back rest, warm rear aircon vents, rattle, squeak, wind noise, turning radius of a truck, case of disappearing rear leg room despite the size, poor quality fake leather in some places, crashing suspension noise, very lousy auto wiper system, irritating auto start stop...need me to say more? Applies to any f10.

Honestly, you will experience none of the above if you are driving alone, at off peak hour, on well paved tarmac, with music blasting.

Power is subjective. Comparing to other family cars, you will smoke toyota altis but get smoked by merc s500.

PM me if need se to test drive.

Finally see another forum-er that thinks the F10 is far from perfect. On top of what is listed, there is the throttle lag, floaty boat-like suspension, light steering with little feedback from the road, light weight doors that need to close with force (no solid thump sound), air-con that blows hot air for the first 10-20 seconds.

The ultimate driving machine?

Re: F10 - 520i

is it because it's a 520? what about 535 ?
i guess aircon blow hotair, stiff seat, squeeks and rattles, etc are still the same huh

BTW, mine's the f10 523i, sorry to burst your bubble.

But then again, there are also many people that think this is a great car, so do test drive carefully to see for yourself.

Re: F10 - 520i

oh how's the F10 523i? Which year?
would you agree your engine better than the current 520i? or even the 528i?
the SE keep telling me old engine old engine...but i feel like smacking him cos that engine of yours is a 6 cylinder versus to the current 4 cylinder (but with Turbo)....

Re: F10 - 520i

what do you expect SE to tell you, break own rice bowl saying 523i 6pot NA is better?

i don't think there is a right or wrong answer

6pot NA is better than 4pot turbo for strawberry driver
4pot turbo is better than 6pot NA for power driver especially those always kena smoked by sonata taxi

this is my personal view only

520i (turbo) vs 523i ... i take 523i (204bhp/250Nm)
528i (turbo) vs 523i ... i take 528i (240bhp/350Nm)

2011. Bought the last batch of 6cyl NA engines when PML trying to clear stock for the new 4 cyl engines.

Can't compare because I have not tried the new engines. But the 6cyl engine is really smooth and it sounds great. The downside is that there is not much low-end torque compared with turbo engines. I would think the 535 with both 6 cyl + turbo will be the best combination, but the other issues that I find is across the board for most f10s (since they share the same body). There are many talks about the throttle lag even in the 535 as well, known as the "tip-in delay".

Re: F10 - 520i

ya i think the 535 with Turbo sure can kick all Sonatas or the other 5s behind it...
but 535 out of my league liao...

i wish we could still grab hold of the 523s...maybe i check sgcarmart! haha!

Re: F10 - 520i

har?....u into f10 now?

Re: F10 - 520i

my tip in delay is largely resolved after complaining to MA and sending for software upgrades. 523i here by the way. maybe bros want to test drive.

i have original BMW 19" rims, so the car feels heavy and pick up is a bit slow, but i am not complaining. i am still averaging 8-9km/l every tank.

other than that i notice a faint, consistent (once ever 2 seconds?) popping sound during a hot day. turning off the aircon stops the sound. nobody knows where that sound comes from but it sounds like some sort of air con flap.

slight pulling to the left on straight roads. this does not really bother me, i believe an alignment will fix and one should not be driving with hands off the wheel anyway. my wife's japanese ride pulls even more -- even after wheel alignment.

other than that all the small squeaks and rattles don't really bother me. my old E90 had a more annoying squeak at the door seal rubber, right beside the driver's ear. that was truly annoying.

i'm not a fan of the stock suspension... agree it feels floaty. was considering KW V3, but it is expensive.
