F10 523 Highline or not?

Just went through the manual last night and surprisingly there is nothing on the sound system type and layout. What is in there are just info on how to operate the entertainment system. Guess got to call SE but I wonder if she knows the details too....

Don't waste time with the SEs. They know nuts about tech stuffs. Ask the SAs directly.

Re: F10 523 Highline or not?

Charts showing the different sound systems and speaker layouts were provided, AFAIK, by BMW Asia/PML to SEs as part of a powerpoint sales presentation. Was shown those before confirming the option.

Re: F10 523 Highline or not?

Picked up my 523 highline from PML this week.

RFTs are dunlops. Not something that comes straight in my mind when considering tires. Anyone has a view on them?

The new generation run flats are not as bad as the previous ones but still, if you find it a little too hard for your liking, then change to the standard tires. They make quite a bit of difference including being cheaper.....

Re: F10 523 Highline or not?

Despite my earlier ramblings that F10 not nice, I am beginning to like the new look slowly..esp the M5. I will buy a 523 and zhng until look like M5 but with small engine

Mar pro came with 3 RFT brands - Conti, Goodyear & Dunlop. When I booked mine, I specified to SE that I wanted only Conti but was told no gurantee though it was delivered with Conti. I suppose all 3 should be relatively respectable in order to be chosen as stock but I personally preferred Conti.

Re: F10 523 Highline or not?

Having driven my F10 for a couple of weeks now, I have made a couple of observations which I wonder if other F10 owners here have the same experiences and/or views:

1. It takes quite a while for the car to reach normal operating temperature from a cold start. Sometimes it takes >10km of drive with immediate move off from start. Any experience on this?

2. Behind the front grille, I could see louvres (or blinds) before the radiator. I have observed the blinds to be always in a closed position (i.e. can't see radiator). I read the manual and there is a short para that said that the louvres are part of car's aerodynamic design to minimise wind drag. They are designed to open when necessary. There is no mention of when they will open. Does anyone noticed this too and knows when the blinds will open and when not?

Thanks.

How much ballpark shops will take them in? Just the tires. Keeping the rims.

What is normal operating temp? Never noticed that or the front grill thingy. Will go see later.

So far

Short 5s of hot air from aircon when starting the car. Normal?

Radio reception not as crisp as i expect. Maybe its the 3m solar film effect?

Apparently the louvers behind the front grille is known as active control flaps. SE helped to check with BMW Asia. Under normal conditions it should remain closed (i.e. can't see radiator through grille). This is part of the effcient dynamic design to reduce wind drag. It will open automatically if it senses that cool air intake is needed. I was told that this did not come with earlier batches.

Normal operating temp for my unit is when needle is slightly before the mid-line. 3M film shouldn't affect reception as its not using a windshield antenna.

No short burst of hot air from my a/c. Maybe you try having your circulation mode switched on fully (i.e. instead of the intermitten setting).

That would be an option, but the dilema is that i drive to malaysia a few times a year and without a spare wheel, could be a problem.

I have the F10 523 Highline. Definitely worth paying the $15 more. You get the following:

1. Much better sound system than standard
2. Professional Nav with 10.2in screen which is awesome. The smaller screen looks terrible.
3. 18 inch rim (17in looks awkward on the big F10)
4. Ambient light which is cool in dark places and at night. Impress your friends too.
5. park assist no use - I do not use it. Scared it will kerb the rim.
6. Folding door mirror is useful in tight parking spot and anti-glare rear view mirrow

Another must is the Sports Auto transmission with paddle shift and sports steering. This option only cost you another $1100 more and is very worth it.

I also have the Intergral Active Steering which is a $6600 option. Very expensive but makes the car drives a lot better and making u turn and tight parking so easy.

not sure if there's a different in omv for both variant?

cheers

Re: F10 523 Highline or not?

think item 4 and 6 avail on 523i STD now. paddle shift/sports gear now avail as package. 18" rims... think top 2K can get with trade in.

OMV difference - about 4K.
