My ride is lowered..
I tried ferrying 2adult n 2kids behind so far no issue at all..
So far no problem, only the tire wall looks slighty slanted but to me it's ok..

These black CHRs looks very sexy!

Re: F10 523i 20 inch staggered set up

suddenly got 2 person on BBS CHR 20 stag now...except bro chopardgtxi got lower his ride but i din...

Re: F10 523i 20 inch staggered set up

i find the offsets too aggressive. i personally prefer that the wheels be a little inside the fender because there's a camber on the rears. the bottom part would stick out too much even if the top is flushed.

I went to South east and did my 20inch upgrade with BBS CHR rims and Bridgestone S001 tyres.

Tyres specs are 245/35/20, 275/30/20
Rims are 20/9/30,20/10.5/35

so far with my short drive i don't see any rubbing(but i have not had passengers on my rear seats yet)

If you see the photos. you can see the rear sticks out a little. does this means i have a wrong offset? the front is ok. My PML SE checked with the mechanics and they say the front is ok but rear a bit risky for F10. SE also tells me some tyre shop are ok and some are not with 10.5 on the rear.

the rim protector of the CH R can be seen it sticking out compare to the tyre edge. the front rim is better and not so obvious

Can any pros give me advise? (first time i change rims and tyres so not sure abt this things also)

If you're new to all these, the last person you want to talk to is Ah Ho. I'm been patronising his family for close to 40 years now. He will always tell you to get the biggest wheel out there, and like all tyre shops in Singapore, they're not experts.

Their "can fit" merely means can put on car physically. How the offsets and sizes affect handling, safety and practicality, you finish the beta programme on your own.

If you check the BBS japan website (and you should), there're notes on application. Most of them caution you on rubbing etc. The only wheels with least problems are those like RG-R 18".

You're likely to have vibration at higher speeds, more so if the road is bumpy. Your car is also unlikely to track true as an arrow at those speeds. You will have more grip but your handling charactersitics will be changed, not necessarily for the better.

And unless you lower your car, it looks weird. It looks incomplete. And if you so choose to lower, you have to ensure the kit is made specifically for your model, and compatible with your wheel offsets. That's in addition to having proper alignment data.

It's unlikely the stars will be aligned for these, which means the problems above will be compounded.

Been there, done that 45 years ago. So learn from my experience. Just return those wheels and get 19" or 20" OEM ones if you still want the big-wheel look. Or get AC Schnitzer ones which have much better fitment for big sizes.

All the best.

Re: F10 523i 20 inch staggered set up

Thanks Family for the detailed explanation. I have been running these wheels around suntec carpark, high ways, HDB MSCP, high ways, in the rain, max speed abt 120-140km so far...i have not experienced any vibration thus far. in fact, the ride feels even better than my A4 on stock 18inch wheels/tyre.

i was quite concern abt all these and so i actually write into BBS and ask abt the differences between the Japan and US application sites. I also write to several US retailers abt these wheels(some suggested me to stay on non-stag 20 x 9).

after the positive driving by myself and a friend. I got a reply from BBS that these wheels will do fine on both F10 523 and 535. I don't know if tyre shops locally are expert but they do a gd job confusing me. everybody says diff thing. i first enquire abt CHR with leong seng. and Daniel did told me he has done this on a few cars with no problem(whether it is true or not, nobody knows).

Re: F10 523i 20 inch staggered set up

you see BBS reply abt the applications in US and Japan site. Best!!! confuse me even more when i ask why diff sites say diff things:

thank you for your reply.

I can only answer your question from our - BBS Germany's - point of view. Our applications are based on the testing regulations of German TUV. BBS Japan's applications are based on our application lists and BBS of America got their own testing specifications which are in accordance to the American regulation.

I hope you enjoy your wheels.

Re: F10 523i 20 inch staggered set up

Based on stock F10 numbers, your rears are protruding 5-7 mm out. Wrong offset on 10.5 - should be 44-45 if you wanna run 10.5 width.

E60 fitment like I mentioned

Re: F10 523i 20 inch staggered set up

9J on ET29 all can work well too.
Tires can run on stagg 245 / 275

Reason is
Assuming stock is 8.5 ET 35 and 9 ET 44 which are the real specs in OEM anyway.
The 9 Js ET 29 will push out 12.25mm front n 15mm rear

Which I think pretty safe.

Re: F10 523i 20 inch staggered set up

No right no wrong, all about optimal.

A cheesy analogy to lighten this thread is the choice of bra's cup size. If she has C cup and wears B cup bra, she will be overflowing. If she wears D cup bra, she might have to stuff tissue papers.

Re: F10 523i 20 inch staggered set up

You're welcome. When it comes to BBS, trust only the japanese website. The japs are the most detailed when it comes to wheels. And nothing beats the fanatics at Mugen. Years back, I imported a set of forged Mugen wheels with offset as tucked-in as possible, no at-the-fender tuner look. The amount of information those Mugen engineers gave me for this offset is staggering.

The difference those wheels make is significant. I think the japs make very good wheels.

All the best.
