F10 - Call Answering on Steering Problem

I encountered problem in answering calls using the phone button on steering for the 1st incoming call of each drive. Had to either use the iDrive or to answer from phone directly. Strangely, the 2nd and subsequent calls can be answered with the phone button. Seems quite an odd occurrence. I am using iphone 4 and Nokia E72.

Called PML but they were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation but just asked me to send the car in for checking. I asked them how long would they need to troubleshoot to rectify the problem and the reply was anything from 1-3 days. Seems rediculously long to me and I'm hesitant to send in just yet. I wonder if any bros here had encounter such a problem and if they have gotten a solution to it? :verysad:

Thanks.

Re: F10 - Call Answering on Steering Problem

Same, bro.

I found a workaround. Pressing the call button once when you first get into the car, or anytime before the first call would rectify it.

I had also thought of sending to PML, but I figured the experts there would not know what to do. My car is going in soon for some works with PML, and I will probably tell them about the problem too.

If you find the solution earlier, please share!

Cheers.

Thanks. Shall try your recommendation.

Did a bit of research and discovered that the problem seems most common in the US F10 models and it affects the X3 too. It is linked to software which requires either an update or reload. It must however be unheard of here as otherwise the SAs at PML wouldn't be so ignorant of it. This also worry me if they are competent enough to diagnose the problem if I were to send the car in for trouble-shooting as they said that they may need up to 3 days to work on the car.....sigh...

Re: F10 - Call Answering on Steering Problem

No problem here as well... check the software version under settings

Mine say:
Multimedia: MX-003.004.031
Telephone: TX-003.004.031

Re: F10 - Call Answering on Steering Problem

I had the same experience....1st call need to use iphone to acknowledge, then the sounds come from the car speakers....after that, its okay....but it does not really bother me....anyway, thanks for telling everyone how ignorant PML is !!! Whoever sell the brand must drive the car to know it's detail functions !!!

Re: F10 - Call Answering on Steering Problem

Could it be realted to only iphone? Not using an iphone and no issues

Re: F10 - Call Answering on Steering Problem

Not only to iPhone, I had the same problem using BB.
Like what some did, just press the answer button on the phone and it will be fine after that.
Not really a bother.

Re: F10 - Call Answering on Steering Problem

Tried pressing the phone button once before each drive and yes, that does solve the issue. Thanks all.

Re: F10 - Call Answering on Steering Problem

It's inherent in Bluetooth system - it needs to search and lock-in. In some BT sets, once you start the car, the BT set starts a search and locks into your hp. In this case, the software probably does not trigger a search and lock-in. Thus that first press of the button.

There are advantages... in that in some instances, when you have guests in the car, you may not want BT to activate.

I use the BlueAnt S-4 and it requires a one-time manual trigger. I prefer it this way - giving me a choice to lock-in or not. In any case, for Blueant, it takes only 3 seconds to lock-in - fast enough to activate and answer incominig calls.

I was in a friend's Dec2010 F10. I saw the iDrive showing something like.... searching for paired phone... Why didn't yours seach?

Re: F10 - Call Answering on Steering Problem

Device pairing is not the issue and even if there are multiple paired devices in the car, one can select which is the preferred pairing. BT will not search for non paried devices (which is good) unless prompted to do so.

The issue concerns the inability of the paired device to take the first incoming call with the steering button. Somehow, like some bros have advised here, that can be overcome by pressing the button once at the start of each drive.

In its perfect form without the software glitch, there wouldn't be a need to press the button once (before any call comes) to take the first call so long as the device is paired. :)
