FC for 523 LCI

Hi Guys,

I've collected my car for 3 months now, and have been monitoring the FC. My FC is about 5.5-6.0km/litre, and can only hit 200km at the half tank mark. I think the FC is very high. I would say the car is running 80% city driving.

Is there a problem somewhere? Appreciate any advice on this.

Thanks! :)

Re: FC for 523 LCI

715, are u driving a stock car ? no mod /changes at all since day 1 ? me driving the same car for about 2mths, everythings stock except for 20" breyton spirit rims (heavy rims) . 85% city driving - 6.3km/L , 45% highway, 55% city - 6.7/6.8km/L . my FC is already consider v bad as i heard from some 630i owners can do at least 7.3km/l on their stock car !!

Re: FC for 523 LCI

I'm driving a new totally stock 523 for 2mths. The only mod i had was a Top fueller Broquet with In-tanks.

My Trip meter indicates my AVG at 9.2km/Litre.
About 70% highway 30% City.

*The Max i get was abt 580km before Fuel light came on.
*The least was 500km.

I Guess your consumption is quite unbearable. Maybe u would like to change Oil Company(Try Shell?)/ Engine Oil/Spark Plugs/Broquet. Alternatively seek PML advice.

Rgds

Re: FC for 523 LCI

I am driving on 18 inch rims with sprintbooster and averaging around the same too or conversely 14.2l/100km. My cooper gives me about 11l/100km so that has become the daily car now instead of weekend car ;-)

Re: FC for 523 LCI

Wow, I was considering getting the 325 or 523, now after looking at you guys FC figures scares me cos I drive alot everyday. But after comparing everyone's FC figures for the 523, I guess the average FC figures isnt too far off. For 80% city driving, your FC isn't too bad. If you are doing 60 to 80% highway driving, your FC will improve by alot.

Re: FC for 523 LCI

Hi, am running an E60 523iA LCI as well and my consumption is approximately 9.3km/L with approximately 60% to 70% city driving. Think you should run your ride up for a check with PML soonest possible.

Re: FC for 523 LCI

I am currently driving my 523LCI for more than a month now and the FC is avg 13.2l/100km.. is this ok? :)

Re: FC for 523 LCI

Normal city/highway driving you get between 7km/l to 8km/l depending on mix of city/highway. On a recent run to Kl the car averaged 11.2Km/l with full load of 4 passengers and air-con on all the way.
This if for a 523 lci running normal tyres and about 7000km on the clock. I beleive that 7.5 is about the median for the fuel consumption with 98RON. I get lower readings with 95....

Re: FC for 523 LCI

Thanks for all the advices. Hmm... I think something is wrong with my car, will send in to PML for a check.... Thanks again.

Re: FC for 523 LCI

may not be since you may spend a lot of time in idling in city, try switching "off" the engine at junctions or traffic lights you know have a log waiting time, this way you do save fuel and your consumption may reduce. try driving the car on highways on weekend for about 50/60km if the consumption improves your daily route could be the problem. The car is fairly new so it needs run -in and consumption will improve after sometime.

Re: FC for 523 LCI

Anw, my friend recently collected his 520i (less than 1 wk) and he said fuel consumption is around 7.0 km/l (using Shell Formula 98). He is quite concerned but prefers to let the car have a proper "run-in".

Not sure if it is due to the 520i 4 cylinder being less efficient than the 6 cylinder 523i you guys drive.

Re: FC for 523 LCI

I used to get about 8Km/l on my 320i E90, considering the 520i uses the same engine in a heavier body should result in poorer fuel consumption of hte 2l engine. I reckon that it might be similar to a 523 or a 525 ( same engine).

Re: FC for 523 LCI

My LCI 523 is running at 7.8KM/Ltr. mileage 4km plus on a 6 month old car
My previous 523 got 10 plus/Ltr

don know why

Re: FC for 523 LCI

maybe driving style plays a very impt part. for my E46 318, i get abt 8 plus KM/Ltr driving it gingerly as i have a very heavy 19 inch wheels. i believe if i ram it at every instances i would be getting ard 5km/ltr. i believe for the 523, same principle applies.

Re: FC for 523 LCI

My comes with factory fitted 17" inch wheels and usual speed is between 80-90km/h.. Seems to me the car is a bit thirsty on petrol.

Re: FC for 523 LCI

I more hard on my Z4 than 5ser, OBC show 8.6Km on Z and 7.8Km on 5.
No logic.think must change engine oil

Re: FC for 523 LCI

THe Z4 may be lighter so that could be a reason and changing engine oil could help. Talked to PML on Saturday they are using Castrol 0w-30 synthetic oil now. My car is due for service today will see if it make any difference after the service.

Re: FC for 523 LCI

My car is 100% stock with stock 17" rims as well. I guess it might be the city driving and the frequent waiting in car that caused the high FC.

Had the car for 3 months and have run about 3500km now. I heard from a bro here that it is better to change the engine oil after the first 1000km, is it true? I've asked pml before, but they told me not necessary.

Btw, is it also better to run the car at high speed like maybe 130-150 to run in the car? Have not hit above 120 with this car yet...

Re: FC for 523 LCI

ok, your car is still new and tight, for sure use more fuel during run in. Mate, run in is over, hit the gas pedal harder!
If it were me, and i spent over $100k, I would change oil at 1k, then 5k, then 10k.

yes, stop start driving kills FC. My 4 litre car in AUS gets better FC than my 2 litre car here!

Re: FC for 523 LCI

Can I just send in the car to PML to change the oil before the service interval. Mine is 3500km now and thinking of changing it by 5000km. Will there have any warranty issue if I just sent it to my own garage for the oil change?:nehnehhh:
