Flood Damage . What to expect ?

I live in the Bukit Timah area and this past Saturday the basement carpark flooded again for the second time. I managed to get to my car and drive it out of the carpark in time to prevent a total submersion of the car. After getting out of the carpark I had to drive through some deeper patches of water to get to higher ground. I got to the higher ground after a 10 second drive before my engine stalled. I drive a E93 325.

I am hoping someone here can help me by telling me what to expect damage wise. The electricals seem fine and there was no water in the cabin at all. The car was towed to the authourised workshop on the day itself. I would appreciate if anyone with the same experience can share their thoughts or experiences.

I am much more fortunate than some of my neighbors whose cars were totally submerged and undoubtedly destroyed.

Re: Flood Damage . What to expect ?

Hope its not too serious too, that's why I started this thread to see if anyone can share their experience with flood damage. I am sure I am not the only BMW with damage. At least I/we will know what to expect . Thanks .

Sorry to hear that bro. I believe this issue is sensitive that not many would want to talk about due to resale value.

Hope its not that serious but you might want to read up on hydrolock --> Hydrolock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Re: Flood Damage . What to expect ?

can i ask a simple question that is insurance cover 100% for the repair ?

Re: Flood Damage . What to expect ?

depends whether insurance covers act of nature. i believe many of us r not.

Re: Flood Damage . What to expect ?

AiG Chartis motor policies covers flood. So in this case, its a Yes.

Re: Flood Damage . What to expect ?

Oh dear... If your engine stalled most likely you got hydrolocked. Depending on your luck sometimes just removing the spark plugs and allowing the trapped water to exit, otherwise if the damage is serious you might need replacement of your pistons/con rods. Did u try to restart your engine? I hope not...

Re: Flood Damage . What to expect ?

I believe I may have tried to restart the engine once but nothing happened. There was no cranking or anything. Dunno if this is a good sign or not. My policy from AXA insurance covers flood. I understand most comprehensive polices in Singapore cover floods as it was deemed that singapore was not flood prone. I guess all that may change now. I know a neighbor who has had to claim a total loss twice in 8 months due to flood water damage :(

If u claim insurance, is for ur own damage claim. so u might need pay the excess & expect ur premium & NCD to be higher & lesser respectively.

I've hydrolocked my engine before, but not due to flood and it was a small engine (1.0l) so the pistons etc were good shape. For your case as long as no electronics are damaged I guess just ask the workshop to remove the sparks and let the water out, get yout engine oil changed if they look milky like kopi, and try restarting the engine.. Minimal $. Hope all goes well for u.

Re: Flood Damage . What to expect ?

Just got a call from the workshop who says they need to wait for the insurance adjuster to come by and sign off on the repairs before proceeding to open up the engine. He told me they tried to start the engine but it couldn't crank (what a rocket scientist ! If it could crank and start I would need it towed) my electricals are all fine according to the workshop. I am hoping for the best case scenario as well.

Re: Flood Damage . What to expect ?

was at the PML workshop and was told 24 cars got towed in after the flood. this was after 18 got towed in just a few days b4 in the earlier flood. workshop totally packed. damn sad to see those flood damaged rides
