833 motorsport. labor cost 30bucks to fix front for u or 50 for rear

Yup! I got mine installed @ 833.... But please tell them to tap power from the IU fuse rather than the bluetooth phone fuse.... Coz the beemers are electronic controlled cars... And the bluetooth fuse will cut power after the car has been shutdown for awhile....

Initially I thought it was a power magic failure.... then only to realise that it's wiring problem...

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

For those of us here with the DR400G HD version of BlackVue - please take note that a new firmware version was released a few days ago.... I've upgraded the firmware, and it's ALOT more stable now.... My unit used to intermittently restart on its own... With the new firmware, it seem to be okay now.

Sorry to bother you, but will you be able to share where did you install the blackvue? how are you powering it?

Mine's powered via a controller called Power Magic... What this does is that it automatically cuts off power to the camera should the car battery drops below a selectable pre-defined voltage. This, theoratically, should save the car from running a flat battery due to the power drain by the camera.

This Power Magic thingy is connected to the fuse box of the car. It taps power from the fuses there - 12V Batt, Ignition signal, GND.... Quite a neat installation, I must say...

Does the blackvue hide well behind the mirror?

So am I right to say the Blackvue will still record when the gear is engage in Park Mode?

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

just to share on my F10:

i put blackvue on front and back with 1 power magic. morning i always get this increase batt discharge warning. but car still can start la. and after tat rest of the day ok.....if driving daily and only 1 cam...i think PM is redundant....

now because the PM is located in the fuse box in the glove compartment so quite accessible i have now change my PM setting to cut off at -22.8v and after 24hr non usage of car....so am monitoring if the batt problem will surface again

Thanks for sharing Puffer... I intend to install on my F10 too... So you are saying for one cam, PM is unnecessary? Your source tap from IU like bro lkm? I'm quite worried on excessive battery drainage issue... My friend ever had his E90's battery drained completely after not starting his car for 5days!

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

I also intend to install a pair of blackvue. I don't think i will need the PM as i don't intend to leave it on overnight.

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

With taping from fusebox, will it risk voiding any of the pml warranties?

That is the only think uncertain that is stopping me from installing, but nowadays lots of dangerous drivers on road.

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

I have the same set up as per Puffer. Also have the same problem with battery draining warning....
I tweek the sensitivity of the BV and it seems to help in the parking mode.
Let me know if anyone have solution for the bat problem.
This.

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

Hmm... When i install it on my A4. I know they tap from the IU. But for this F10, when i open the fuse area in the glove compartment, i cant trace it properly. It leads to the rack of fuses. SSDD1 what abt yours?

Currently i tweak my PM setting to 24hr and 22.8v(maximum setting). Will monitor and see how is it. Warranty issue i not sure also. But if got problem, it is not difficult to dismantle all the parts out.

Can tell me how to see?

OT a bit... I read on US forum... Some guys also complaint if F10 not start a few days can have batt drain problem too. Some even got the dealers telling them that they din drive enough distance to charge the batt

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

I just got from one PI. Going for installation tmr. Not going to use while parking. No point if just front only. Need 4 channel for that. Which will be huge batt issue. Also not using powe magic.

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

Installed today... works like a charm. Very clear playback. Speed recording is optional so I off it. Just in case need to use it for any evidence n I was speeding. Bought at 380 from PI and installed for $30 at 833 motorsport, connected to fuse. Money well spent for the peace of mind.

Re: Front video camera - for security at night and road accidents

ok i got this reply from local distributor or AD ''WOw! Gadgets'' -

Thank you for the purchase and inquiry.

BMW system is more sensitive than other makes, we have a few cases reported (not all of them)
When you activate the parking mode (recording while parking), BlackVue is using the power from the car battery hence the BMW system sensed that there is current leaked. This error will not caused any major harm.

To prevent the error light, it is either to remove the parking mode feature (no Power Magic too).
Or else you need to ignore the error.
The cable need to be reconnected if you want to remove out the Power Magic.

I hope this helps to clarify. Have a great day.

Thanks for the information Puffer. Looks like either do w/o the parking mode or get a small car battery specially for parking recording... Just like some ppl install extra battery for ICE purpose...

Gear engage in park mode - yes. Coz the engine still running mah....

Whether the Blackvue will continue recording when the ignition is turned off depends on how you configure/wire it.

Some people may choose to wire it to the cigarette lighter socket (the easiest method). This manner, recording will stop when the ignition is turned off - no power mah.

Others may choose to wire it directly to car battery. This way, recording will still continue even when engine is turned off. One disadvantage is that if car is not started / run for a few days, car battery may be so drained that there is not enough battery juice to start car liao.

Alternatively (recommended) would be to use this device called "Power Magic". It works almost like option (2) above, where the unit will continue recording even when the engine is cut. However, there is a layer of protection whereby if the unit senses low voltage, it will cut off the power to the recorder - theoratically leaving just enough battery juice to start the car. =)

Hope this helps!
