Guys, for those heading down to Perfect Watch this afternoon, can u check for me the price of Garmin Nuvi 310 and 360, pls? Kum xia.

T6, I had a friend who played with the 350 with malsingmaps.com map loaded. Apparently the search by road name requires entry of "state". Which in Singapore, this is totally no relevant.

Eventually he could not figure out how to bypass this and he was not able to search by that option. A minor set back but he is extremely happy with the unit.

btw, he had his imported from the US, so, he has the full City Select US maps plus free map for Singapore and Malaysia from Malsingmaps.

Re: Garmin GPS

the US sets would cost alot less and free maps could be downloaded at malsingmaps. I do believe that forum is very helpful also.

Re: Garmin GPS

KT,

Wld u recommend the Nuvi series over the C320?

Not to be rude here since the guys are working on a group buy, but I will just tell you why I like the Nuvi :)

1. It has SIRF III chipset, meaning, it locked on faster and more accurate. It works wonderfully well in our environment where there are a lot of tall buildings which bounces the GPS signal around.

2. You can put it in your pocket and travel with you. You get an MP3 player, photo viewer, currency convertor, audio book software, etc. You could also turn it on and use it to walk to your destination if you are not driving in foreign country.

3. It speaks street name. So instead of "Turn right in 300 meter" it says "Turn right into Braddell Road". Though I wasn't sure how "Ang Mo Kio" would sound like in ang mo ascent.

There are other features that both has like custom POI, 3D display, WAAS (which is of no use to us in Sg)...

My 2 cents

Wah, it sounds like the Nuvi is the one to get then.....but it's not available here? Or we can't search by road names?

Re: Garmin GPS

Eggz, we can take this offline and explore getting from overseas.

Re: Garmin GPS

eggz, the one that I know has problem searching road name is Nuvi 350, which is a US version. Garmin has different model for Europe market (Nuvi 300), which I am not sure if it has that same behavior.

As pointed out somewhere along this thread, this is not available in Singapore yet. Amazon is selliing Nuvi 350 for about US$800 with the whole of US maps preloaded in the unit.

Garmin has since released 360/310, which has pretty much the same feature as 300/350, it now comes with Bluetooth to pair with your mobile phone for handsfree call when driving.

I shall not OT from C320.

Re: Garmin GPS

honestly the c320 looks more road going while the nuvi is more for backpackers and those who travel often. well at least to me it appears so.

Hi T6,

Checked with perfect watch today. Nuvi and 360 not available in Singapore at the moment. Have bought the C320.

I downloaded the hokkien abeng song in your thread. Very funny. anymore?

My EXACT thoughts. However, not available here leh.

I tried emailing a few vendors in UK and US about sending a unit here and non of them were successful. So finally gave up and bought the c320 instead.

The thing that made me finally do it was the preinstalled s'pore/M'sia maps. That gurantees that it will work here. I know there are ways to get the maps into the Nuvi but it's not nice to use becos of the must input state thing. Also, there is a lot of fiddling with software and all that which I'm reluctant to go through as I do not own a Windows computer.

CBS,

have tried download Malaysia maps from Malsingmaps.com? The connection for this site seems to be very poor. I was told we can download the map but remember to use a separate SD card.

Re: Garmin GPS

The site seems to have been down for quite some time now. I can't access it anymore. I don't have a Windows computer so even if I downloaded the maps, I won't be able to install them as Garmin software only runs on Windows.

Someone who has can maybe chime in here?

Yes, you need a seperate SD card formatted for use with Garmin devices as I recall.
